Dave Nulty Releases Debut Single ‘We’ll Be Alright’

Dave Nulty is a producer & song-writer based in Dublin, Ireland.

With a background in a number of acts, he releases his debut single, ‘We’ll Be Alright’ on April 29th.

Self produced, the track sees Dave explore a number of sounds from a palette of genre-fluid influences.

‘We’ll Be Alright’ came to fruition coming out of lockdown earlier this year.

The Whileaways Release ‘Toss The Bobbin’ From Album ‘In All Honesty’ Due Out 3 June

The Whileaways release their latest single ‘Toss the Bobbin’ on April 29th, taken from their forthcoming album which will be released in June. This evocative song tells the story of the eighteenth century lacemaking women of Headford in County Galway, where The Whileaways are based and where Nicola grew up.

‘Toss the Bobbin’ imagines the story of four of these women, who survived poverty and famine through bobbin lacemaking, and pieces together the little detail that exists of their lives. It tells of their resilience and the sisterhood that existed between them in the toughest of times as they turned their hands to this intricate work: lace made by the poor and worn only by the rich.

The Whileaways performed ‘Toss the Bobbin’ with the RTE Concert Orchestra for the Strings Attached series, but have since recorded this beautifully poignant version for their new album.

The Whileaways are Noelie McDonnell, Noriana Kennedy and Nicola Joyce, three accomplished singers who came to know each other while on the session circuit in Galway in 2012. Since then they have released three critically acclaimed albums, toured all over the world, and been nominated for Best Group and Best Album in the RTÉ Folk Awards. Praise from international press has been heaped upon the band with The Irish Echo calling their sound ‘perfected simplicity’, and Hot Press saying that the trio ‘stake their claim to being among the finest singers in the country’.

The band are renowned for their live performances, whether that’s touring their own material, or their much-lauded show Bird On The Wire, a collaboration with Pauline Scanlon which featured a ten-piece band including strings, and explored the songs of songwriting icon Leonard Cohen. It was performed to sold-out audiences in Ireland in 2019 and 2021.

The Whileaways can’t wait to get out on the road in support of their forthcoming album In All Honesty. The band trialed many of the songs at their ‘Live from Home’ online gigs during lockdown. Now they get to do it in person!

Latest Single From Jennifer Lyons ‘Run The Wild’

Irish singer and emerging artist Jennifer Lyons is happy to present her new single and anthem ‘Run The Wild’, out on all digital streaming platforms from 8 April 2022.

Jennifer herself is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Cork, performing earthy and explosive music to audiences everywhere. Effortlessly blending ethereal, folk, and contemporary influences into one – Jennifer’s voice emits passions and emotion in a unique husky tone.

Jennifer says about the song: “The song came to me in the Summer of 2021, after many years moving around with music and living in different places. I hadn’t played a gig in a year and had started to re-imagine my life without music – basically a more balanced lifestyle.

Essentially, this led to a whole new chapter in my life; a change in career, settled down a bit. However, deep down I felt stagnant and disconnected from my deeper self which inspired me to write Run The Wild – airing out the inner conflict we experience when faced with life decisions.”

‘Run The Wild’ is Jennifer’s first single off her highly anticipated album also titled Run The Wild. Produced and engineered in Monique Studios in Cork with the musical input and stylings of John Ryan, Christian Best and Darragh Keary. Run The Wild will be available from Friday, 8 April.

New Single From The Human Man ‘White Knuckle Holiday’

‘White Knuckle Holiday’ is the infectious, hook-laden new track from The Human Man – an Irish singer-songwriter whose music is as intriguing as his name. His music lays itself comfortably alongside indie and bedroom pop, while maintaining its own unique characteristics thanks to his distinct, wistful voice and instrumentation. The new track sees jangly guitar playing tinted with sparse harmonies to produce a wonderfully dreamy, escapist atmosphere.

The indie-rock artist began storytelling with melody-driven songs as an admiration for songwriters such as The War On Drugs, Pinegrove, American Football. Hailing from Dublin, The Human Man has long been immersed in the Irish music scene, leaving an everlasting mark which makes its way into The Human Man’ music in emotive and real ways, saying “not everything is perfect, but life goes on regardless.”

In the artist’s own words – “White Knuckle Holiday is about not seeing eye to eye with yourself every day, and still learning even though you know yourself so well. The recording came together quickly and smoothly, it was written and demoed in one day and the final track isn’t miles different from the bedroom demo I did, which I love about it… It was an extremely rewarding task getting to play every instrument (except the drums) and sing every line. To truly focus on making this song the way I wanted to make it was an amazing feeling.”

Wallis Bird Releases New Single ‘Go’ From Upcoming Album ‘Hands’

Wallis Bird treats us to single number four, ‘Go’, ahead of the release of her seventh studio album, HANDS, available 27th May.

An inward reflection staring countless possibilities in the face, ‘Go’ is a song about beginnings. About looking at your present situation and saying: What do you want to do? Do you want to do something a bit different? A bit odd?

It’s about forcing yourself to stand out from the crowd when you want to – pursuing your passions and desires, because when it comes down to it, nobody else is going to do it for you. It’s about relenting and saying “let’s do it, let’s get started” – embracing the uncertainty of what’s in store; because life’s too short to not try.

Riddled with hooky adornments, this fourth single flaunts the aptitude of Wallis’ upcoming record, out next month. It illustrates the essence of Wallis Bird in a tastefully wrapped two minutes – showcasing what makes the prospect of album number seven worth the wait!

Irish-born and Berlin based, Wallis Bird has released six albums since 2007, for which she’s won two Meteor Awards, Ireland’s annual music prize – mostly recently for Best Female Artist – and a prestigious 2017 German ‘Music Autoren Preis’ (Music Author Prize), not to mention two further nominations for the Choice Music Prize, Ireland’s equivalent to Britain’s Mercury Prize. In addition, she’s racked up over a thousand shows during the past decade, earning a reputation worldwide for her legendarily passionate, energetic and good-humoured concerts. Wallis has also previously found a champion in American artists Amanda Palmer, and the Irish Times once noted that Bird’s irrepressible trademark energy on stage could “kickstart an entire economy”.

‘Go’ propels us into Wallis’ seventh studio album to date. HANDS – also known as ‘NINE AND A HALF SONGS FOR NINE AND A HALF FINGERS’ – is a turning of the spotlight onto herself, raising issues that are sometimes far harder to face. Confronting themes of trust, alcohol abuse, stagnation, self-censorship and self-improvement. Each of them, however, is delivered by a voice uncommonly blessed with joy, ingenuity and empathy.

Clodagh Returns With Acoustic Version of ‘All You Do Is’

Cork singing sensation Clodagh O’Sullivan from Macroom released her new single ‘All You Do Is’ at the end of March and today she follows it up with a stunning acoustic version of the song.

The song song produced by fellow Corkonian Cian Sweeney (1000 Beasts), shows how much Clodagh has grown as a songwriter over the past two years.

Just recently, Clodagh completed a songwriting camp with Ben Folds and this July she will fly to LA for the exclusive VocalizeU intensive summer retreat.

The single has already received attention from RTÉ Radio 1’s Liliam Smith, who called it ‘glorious’ when she played it on RTÉ Radio 1’s Late Date. Clodagh also impressed Hot Press Magazine, who invited her to showcase her music as part of their Y&E Series in conjunction with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

In a live report, Hot Press noted “her set was a moving showcase of her talented vocal skills and songwriting abilities.”

Clodagh will be working Cian Sweeney, who is regarded as ‘one of the brightest prospects in Irish pop’ (Irish Examiner), on a series of releases planned across the next 12 months. She has also continued to work with renowned vocal coach Gemma Sugrue as her mentor in preparation for these releases.

“This feels like the start of a new chapter and a new era for me,” she says. “Over lockdown I was getting frustrated by stupid things like not being able to leave the house and you can hear that all in the track. I was doing guitar lessons over Zoom with Jake Curran and he was giving me something to work on and it’s him playing those chords you hear on the track.”

Clodagh says that listening to the likes of Lianne La Havas, H.E.R. and Sza also helped to develop her sound. “It was a much cheesier song but I switched it up after listening to some of those artists,” she says.

Clodagh is an incredibly accomplished musician. Born Clodagh O’Sullivan in Rhode Island in the States, Clodagh moved back to Ireland with her father when she was very young. A big fan of Lianne La Havas, Tom Odell and Jessie Ware, Clodagh’s love for layered harmonies has already seen her compared to the likes of Lisa Hannigan and Wyvern Lingo.

Her 2020 single ‘You Got Me’ received over 1200 spins on Irish radio, gaining over a million impacts for the song. The single was remixed by The Control Freakz, leading to over 20,000 Spotify streams. She has over 1,700 monthly listeners on Spotify.  Nialler9 called ‘You Got Me’ a “smart and soulful pop track”.

In addition to completing the Commercial Modern Music degree at BIMM Dublin, Clodagh has also trained under renowned vocal coach Gemma Sugrue (RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Chic, Billy Ocean, Jerry Fish, Lee Fields). She was also chosen for a specialist jazz course in Izola, Slovenia, where she worked with Emilia Martensson, her sister In 2019, she was selected to do a residency at Attica Audio, as part of Donegal Arts Festival, with producers Tommy McLaughlin (Villagers, Soak, Ailbhe Reddy) and Rocky O’Reilly (Gary Lightbody, And So I Watch You From Afar, The Wood Burning Savages). She was also chosen for a specialist jazz course in Izola, Slovenia, where she worked with Emilia Martensson, her sister Marina Martensson (from the band Laibach) and Femi Temowo (guitarist for Amy Winehouse).

“I’ve been waiting for so long to release this song and get the ball rolling, so I can’t wait to be able to jump at opportunities to perform it for people whenever I can,” Clodagh says.

‘Kuti Gris’, the Debut Album from Limerick rapper Willzee Out Now

The margins have always been the most fertile ground for hip hop and 29-year old, Limerick born Traveller, Wilzee is no stranger to the space between the lines.

With a mission to inspire others, his first full length album Kuti’Gris (Gammon for piece of the heart) is an unsentimental epilogue of a fascinating life “urging a different course for communities in need of care, locally and worldwide.”

Willzee is an Irish traveller raised in a ‘Settled’ foster home, admitting he always felt he was the odd one out and different to the rest. “I existed in the middle line of both cultures which at first was difficult, but as I grew so did my meaning and purpose” says Willzee.  The album is used by Willzee as a means to honestly express his identity as well as loss, “throughout my life, my heart has been broken multiple times from the loss of both my parents’ to siblings and friends”. Kut’i Gris means ‘a piece of heart’ in traveller Gammon language, an accurate reflection of how each track represents a piece of heart lost or found.

The focus track ‘On Top’ features artists Strange Boy, Hazey Haze and Jayne. “The concept behind On Top is to inspire young musicians to keep striving for their goals, to maintain a constant rise in their output both professionally and personally and to use their experiences as superpower to help inspire others.”

 BIO

The story of Willzee is the story of rising from adversity, struggle and hardship. As a young man Willzee was angry at the world, born a member of the travelling community. As a series of moments shed light on another way to live, Willzee discovered music as a way to express his true self freely. He began to dream about turning everything that shaped him into something good that could help the next man or woman.

With a musical style harking back to the golden years of 90’s rap, and musical heroes such as Eminem, Hopsin and proud Traveller, folk-rapper Steo Wall, Wilzee’s rap is a gritty take on the issues faced generation’s Z and Alpha. His music is informed by global issues such as climate change, local issues like the scourge of hard-drugs, as well as the personal issues he has encountered in his life.

Throughout Willzee’s upbringing there has been many stages of the artists life where he would feel socially excluded from circles from either being “Too traveller for the settled people or too settled for the travellers”. Through positive reassurance, patience, love and understanding from Willzee’s foster parents, he began to steer him towards a brighter positive future and use his pain as healing for others.

Willzee‘s first official appearance was as the lead actor in the music video of fellow label artist Enda Gallery’s single ‘It’s Alright‘. Willzee also channels his talents into spoken word and script writing. He won the 2019 Virgin Media Discovers Short Film Competition with his script for the film ‘Innocent Boy’ which premiered at the Dublin International Film Festival in February 2020.

His first spoken word release in 2020 ’Dear Friend II‘ plots a different potential course for Limerick but moreover, for communities in need of care all over the world, he urges us to “let the past be the past, but take it further.” Followed by an impressive single release featuring UK MC Mic Righteous, Willzee announced his debut album to be released this year with it’s first singles ‘A Dream of Peace’ and ‘No Remorse’.

With a powerful stage presence and a personality to match his latest offering hits with the same bone shattering precision.

‘Kuti Gris’, the debut album from WIllzee, is out now, Friday 29th April 2022.

Gavin James Announces His Third Album ‘The Sweetest Part’ Out July 22nd

With a career that’s earned him 1.8 billion streams at Spotify, 1 Diamond and 45 Platinum & Gold records across the globe, a #1 album in Ireland, a sold-out world tour and live shows with Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Niall Horan and James Blunt, Gavin James is ready to release his third studio album ‘The Sweetest Part’, due 22nd July 2022.

Exploring the highs and lows of love and relationships, Gavin James wrote and produced the full length with some of pop music’s most highly regarded players including Ivor Novello-nominated songwriter Mark Ralph (Years & Years, Clean Bandit, Jax Jones), Fiona Bevan who co-wrote One Direction’s number 1 hit ‘Little Things’ with Ed Sheeran, Patrick Pyke Salmy and multi-Platinum awarded Richard Muñoz (Zoe Wees), Ollie Green (Freya Ridings, Lewis Capaldi) and Jimbo Barry (The Script). With this, it’s clear the new album has all the credentials to match Gavin’s previous success, which has earned himself arena level notoriety.

Previous singles ‘Circles’, ‘Greatest Hits’ (which spent weeks in the Top 5 at radio in Ireland & Top 5 in Switzerland) and his single ‘Sober’ became staples at BBC Radio 2, with all three releases affixing themselves to the A, B & C playlists. The latter stuck out an unparalleled stint of 8 weeks on high-rotation and the former afforded Gavin an invite to perform a live session at Maida Vale during Will Young’s show, who after exclaimed “you’re an astonishing singer! That was remarkable!”

The title track was written and produced by Gavin and Kodaline guitarist Mark Prendergast, the deeply quaint new number “The Sweetest Part” possesses a lullaby-like quality, as it rhythmically bobs along with James’ vocals swelling and ebbing throughout the track.

Following his UK tour with James Blunt, which started February 3rd 2022, Gavin James will also embark on his Irish headline tour later this year, album in hand. He is no stranger to the live circuit, having played shows with Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, as well as his own sold-out world tour which started in 2019 and ended with a sold-out 3Arena Dublin show, one of the last shows in Ireland before lockdown. Since then, he’s released his number 1 Irish album and airplay-charting ‘Boxes’ EP.

Dubliner, Gavin James has come a long way from his early days busking on Grafton Street. His international touring has resulted in 250,000 ticket sales for his headline shows across the world, including two nights at Dublin’s 13,000 capacity 3Arena.

“The Sweetest Part” will be available physically and on DSPs from 22nd July via Good Soldier / AllPoints. Album pre-order here.
