The Irish Tenors Announce 25th Anniversary Tour

The Irish Tenors featuring Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan and Declan Kelly celebrate 25 years of the Irish Tenors with 3 Irish shows at the INEC Arena Saturday 14 January 2023 and the National Concert Hall Saturday and Sunday the 7 and 8 of January 2023. Tickets are on sale now.

The Irish Tenors have been touring together since 1998, with sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall, Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, and major concert halls throughout the world. Their faces and voices are familiar to PBS audiences through several specials, including the “Ellis Island” recordings that sold a million CDs and DVDs.

Since they first joined voices in 1998, The Irish Tenors have made countless traditional treasures breathe with new life. Moreover, they’ve proven themselves gifted interpreters of a wide range of material, with such songs as “My Heart Will Go On” (from Titanic), “Fairytale Of New York”(previously recorded by Kirsty MacColl and The Pogues) and even Jimmy Kennedy’s “South Of The Border (Down Mexico Way)”. These songs live comfortably in their repertoire alongside “Danny Boy,” “Whiskey in the Jar” and “Fields Of Athenry.” Among their best selling albums, ‘Heritage’ ranks as one of the finest with classic recordings of many of the most beautiful Irish songs. ‘We Three Kings’ is their best selling Christmas Album and includes all of superb Christmas gems that feature year after year in their legendary Christmas Tour, attending which has become a firm tradition for so many families who love their music and the special sparkle that marks their holiday programme.

The Irish Tenors powerful vocal line-up of Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan and Declan Kelly are unquestionably the leading brand of this genre. All classically trained singers, each having performed in leading concert halls across the world, together they combine to produce a sound and concert experience, which touches hearts and stirs the emotions. Happy songs of celebration and humour, mixed with touching melodies and songs that warm the heart.

They are surely versatile, but for many, Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan and Declan Kelly are synonymous with Irish music. There is an aching bittersweet quality to much of Ireland’s musical heritage, a melodic loveliness and emotional intensity that brings a tingle to the spine and a tear to the eye. The dazzling technique and depth of feeling that defines this musical genre, amplified to the third power, is the hallmark of The Irish Tenors.

The magic they’ve captured on previous releases has resulted in millions of albums sold and the upper reaches of Billboard’s music charts. The Irish Tenors have appeared on several incredibly successful and highly rated PBS specials including Ellis Island and Live from Belfast as well as The Today Show, Good Morning America, Regis and Kelly, Martha Steward, A&E Breakfast with the Arts, and are one of the best selling acts to appear on QVC.

The Irish Tenors continue to tour constantly, thrilling old fans and winning new ones all around the globe. In the United States, they are one of the most successful Irish touring acts ever, second only to U2. Whether as the powerful vocal trio in full flight, or in their cameo solo spots, a concert performance by The Irish Tenors is an experience that never fails to excite and bear witness to the power of great music when performed by true artists. Most concerts end with two, three, and sometimes four standing ovations, with Irish and American songs bringing audiences to their feet. Despite the ultimate compliment of there being several copy versions of The Irish Tenors, this trio are regarded as the acknowledged Godfathers of Irish repertoire.

Big Boy Foolish Set to Release ‘Penumbra’ Featuring J. Kelly December 14th

Ricky Dineen and Liam Heffernan are a post-punk duo from the northside of Cork City. Formed organically from an old friendship and the hunger to be playing music. They both appeared on Kaught at the Kampus (Reekus Records).

Dineen was guitarist in the seminal bands Nun Attax, Five go Down to the Sea? and Beethoven.

Heffernan played with Mean Features and Nun Came Back and he has worked as an Actor.

And Nun Came Back were formed in 2014 to commemorate the music of Dineen and Finbarr Donnelly, who passed away in 1989. It was out of this project that Dineen and Heffernan began writing new material, playing their inaugural gig in 2019, on Donnelly’s 30th anniversary.

During the surreal time of lockdown they released a number of singles and since restrictions have relaxed, have been playing gigs around Ireland and England.

Daniel Cohen Releases New Single ‘Cosmic Collisions’

Daniel Cohen burst on to the pop scene in 2022 like a fresh Atlantic breeze. Hailing for Galway on the West coast of Ireland, Daniel started writing music in his teens, and was part of a semi successful Irish rock band for many years.

After the demise of the band, Daniel worked tirelessly as an independent music producer for over a decade (USA, Sweden & Spain) helping other independent artists and bands achieve their dream of getting a recording contract. However his own dream of being a pop artist never died, and in 2022 he decided to give it a real shot and see if he could write, sing and perform as well as the best of them.

His debut single in June ‘Will you Ride with me Tonight?’ Reached #15 in the Irish IMRO charts and also had almost 30,000 views on YouTube. A good result for an independent artist with very little help. For his second release, he chose a song sung by Diana Ross in 1985, ‘Chain reaction’ which received very positive reviews internationally and also garnered thousands streams online.

Daniel’s third single ‘Cosmic Collisions’ due out on December 2nd will be his first attempt at making the Irish charts. The single was written as an engagement song to ask his partner for her hand in marriage this Christmas. This cracking song was written by Cohen, with the music produced by long time collaborator Seamus O’Duignean who is based in Shanghai China. The vocals and mixing were done in Antwerp in Belgium where Daniel currently resides.

Daniel’s music influences are firmly based in funk soul and the Motown greats. Little Richard, Bruno Mars and George Michael would be among his favourite artists and The Spinners, The Isley Brothers and The Temptations would be among his favourite groups.

Hard Rock/New Blues NeoWestern Artist Jordan Dennis Set to Unleash Debut EP ‘The Man in the Hat’

“NeoWestern”, as it has since been coined by critics. Jordan Dennis’ work is a serendipitous coming together of his own Hard Rock/New Blues sound meets the Country/Western influence of his residing hometown of Castleblayney, “The Nashville of Ireland”.

Cutting his teeth performing to the unforgiving crowds throughout his local saloons. Jordan Dennis soon began making waves, appearing at several acclaimed music festivals including The Rory Gallagher Festival (Eric Gales) and The Harvest Time Blues Festival (Artur Menezes, Pat McManus).

June 2022 saw Jordan embark on his first tour supporting Mascot Records (Joe Bonamassa, Steve Via) U.S artists “The Cold Stares” throughout both the U.K & Scotland.

Returning to Ireland that July making his debut appearance at Dublin’s renowned Whelans main stage, Jordan supported legendary slide guitarist Roosevelt Collier on the Irish leg of his European Tour.

In August, Jordan was approached by the noted Tres Hombre Management for a second UK Tour supporting U.S Blues Rocker Zach Person.

Having showcased his material on the road, Jordan completed work on his Debut E.P in September. Recorded at The Homestead Studio in Castleblayney. Mixed & Mastered by Industry figures James Darkin (Hozier, Gavin James, Dermot Kennedy) at Black Mountain Studios and Sami Bianchi (Ennio Morricone) at Oscar/Grammy winning Forum Studios in Rome.

Jordan is currently working with the Oscar winning Czech National Symphony Orchestra on further projects which will be released in 2023. Including conducting a live orchestral performance of the title track, “The Man in the Hat”.

Jordans Debut E.P will be Released on Friday 9th December on Spotify and all major music platforms. You can Follow Jordan on his Instagram and Spotify, or visit kingofthestrings.ie.

“Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy … The Torch lit by the Irish masters of Hard Rock is in good hands” – Trevor Deeley (A.M.L.O)

The Debut E.P consists of 4 tracks. ‘The Man in the Hat’‘King of the Strings’‘Battle Cry’ and the focus single ‘Equalize’.

It is a hard hitting first musical offering with hooking riffs, blistering solos and orchestral overtures. Set to stories, lyrics and themes about the human experience interpreted through the lens of the western genre.

THE MAN IN THE HAT:

‘The Man in the Hat’, came about from Jordan’s experience as a Musician/Healthcare Professional working the frontline during the covid-19 pandemic. Jordan experienced the true horrors of the Pandemic up close and personal. Having contracted the virus, becoming seriously ill, he was diagnosed with cognitive O.C.D.

Struggling with his mental health, he began focusing on his songwriting.

“I have always been inspired by Western Cinema and its themes. With the dire state of the world at that time, as an artist I saw a lot of parallels. This influenced my own songwriting. I began writing about the human experience, filtered

through the lens of the western genre. Coming out of the pandemic was very much like a new frontier. Nobody knew what to expect. Things would never be as they were. ‘The Man in the Hat’ was a character which came out the other side of all that. The message I would like people to take away from this work is to persevere. You may not set the stage though; you can play your part. Own your character.”

Karan Casey Announces New Album ‘Nine Apples of Gold’ & Shares Title Track

Trailblazing Irish Singer-Songwriter

KARAN CASEY

Announces new album ‘Nine Apples of Gold’

+ shares the title track today

Official video ‘Nine Apples of Gold’

Irish tour March / April ’23 announced

Women and Their Many Voices Are Centre Stage on  Nine Apples of Gold;

Karan’s Tour Will Debut New Songs from Her Upcoming Album out in February 2023

Spearheading Campaign for Gender Balance in Irish Music Provides Inspiration and Insights

KARAN CASEYone of Ireland’s finest singer-songwriters – and a leading advocate for gender balance in the Irish folk and traditional music scene – will launch her new album Nine Apples of Gold on 24th February, 2023, and today shares the title track from the album.

Speaking of the new song, Karan says: “The initial genesis for this song was inspired by Tonn Chlíona, a supernatural woman from Glandore who was said to have three brightly coloured songbirds who ate apples from an otherworldly tree and sang so sweetly that they could cure all illness, I loved the magic in this story and thought a lot about how women carry tunes and songs and dance and bring so much healing to the world.

The legend goes on to report that in order to flee from men who wanted to kill her because of her powers Clíona changed herself into a wren and escaped, it is funny then how Sean Óg Graham went and gave the songbirds of Portglenone a guest spot on this track, without my saying anything of this story. For Pauline Scanlon because of her beautiful singing voice and musicality but also because of her bravery in her singing and campaigning.”

Karan has teamed up with Sean Óg Graham, her long-time collaborator and friend, to create a dynamic and enchanting album of songs that speaks to healing, camaraderie in times of strife, finding enrichment and new life in campaigning for women, and of course death. This is an ode to the natural world featuring the songbirds of Portglenone, the moon, conversations from the grave, returning to the wild, listening for the cuckoo as she sleeps.

The empowerment of women is front and centre of Karan’s concerns as she gives voice to the notion that songs can sing what we cannot say. Her defiance, her vulnerabilities and her feminist heart bellow through these songs.

Adding their unique vocals to the album are Niamh Dunne on a duet song Sister I am Here for You; Pauline Scanlon on a searing feminist overlook of Ireland in a song entitled I Live in a Country; and Ríoghnach Connolly on Daughter Dear, a tender hearted song between a mother and daughter. Also joined by Conor McCreanor, John McCullough, Hannah Hiemstra and Kate Ellis among others, this is Karan’s 12th album and displays her fine poetic voice where she has taken traditional symbolism and shaken it by the neck to create an ode to mother nature and a poignant cry for change.

A Waterford native, Casey was among the vanguard of the Irish music revival’s “third wave” of the late 1980s/early 1990sa founding member of the seminal Irish American band Solas before launching her solo career in 1999, and going on to record 11 albums. Though steeped early on in Irish traditional and folk music, Casey has long followed an eclectic path, whether studying classical music (she is a talented pianist), fronting jazz bands or working with Frank Harte, a much-revered folk/traditional singer from Dublin. The list of artists she’s performed with is similarly diverse: James Taylor, Maura O’Connell, Karen Matheson, the Boston Pops Orchestra, Tim O’Brien, The Chieftains, The Dubliners, and Béla Fleck, among others.

NINE APPLES OF GOLD, THE NEW ALBUM FROM KARAN CASEY, WILL BE OUT 24th FEBRUARY 2023 via CROW VALLEY MUSIC.

On her March/April ’23 Irish tourCasey will be accompanied by the dynamic duo Niamh Dunne and Sean Óg Graham both members of popular Irish band Beoga: Niamh Dunne (fiddle, vocals), who comes from a rich family heritage of Irish traditional music; and Seán Óg Graham (guitar), a talented arranger, composer and producer who is in great demand as an accompanist.

IMRO Award Presented to The Blizzards

We were delighted to be joined by The Blizzards last week for the presentation of an IMRO Award in recognition of their album Sometimes We See More in the Dark.

The IMRO Number 1 Award was introduced to acknowledge IMRO members who reach number 1 in the album charts here in Ireland.

Mullingar Power rock-pop four piece, The Blizzards used their time in lockdown to explore their music and work on really defining their sound. Honing their melodic, dynamic hooks and crafting their pop guitar-driven song-writing. A true reflection of their musical identity in 2022.

The album features the singles ‘Friction Burns’Trigger Me’ and ‘Play God’ and showcases their strongest sound and writing since the bands formation. The previously three released singles are accompanied by equally stunning videos, the bands ethos to work with local Mullingar creative outlets and locations shines through their videos and production.

The initial plan was to release an EP of music, but the bands creativity levels were at an all-time high. A wealth of material developed from time spent in the studio by returning to their roots of just plugging in and playing.

The album making process represented many things for the members of the band but a common thread for all was creative freedom with no restraints..

Frontman Bressie says ‘it was about going back to the rawness of being in a garage band. The idea of making your instruments work for the song rather than the song work for the instrument. Lyrically it felt like the album wrote itself… Like they were there already. That’s always a special feeling because you know it’s coming from an authentic place’

Bassist, Louize Carroll first time making a full length album and being part of the process from start to finish ‘It’s the first time I’ve been part of an album from start to finish as a bass player and..in many ways I feel more belonging and meaning together as a band with this new body of work. I’m so proud of what the band has achieved.’

Lead Guitarist Justin appreciated having a creative outlet during the global pandemic ‘For me it was being given an opportunity to write and record music during the pandemic. It gave us a chance not only to rediscover ourselves musically but also hone our dynamic as a four piece band and I’m looking forward to performing these songs live and likewise for drummer Dec, having a creative outlet during life’s chaos and creating music that represents the bands best material ‘To be in a position at this stage in our lives, where life is hectic and sometimes overwhelming, to be able to find time to create a special batch of songs has been very rewarding. Working creatively where the priority in the feel and vibe of each song has been dictated by us and not the industry feels very empowering after 15 years mostly spent trying to please people’

Niall Breslin aka Bressie (Guitar / Lead Vocals), Louize Carroll (Bass), Justin Ryan (Lead Guitar) and Dec Murphy (Drums) are stronger, more passionate and energised than ever and are ready to share it with the world. The previously released tracks are just an introduction to the album, recorded in Camden Recording Studios. The Album was produced and mixed by Aidan Cunningham and Bressie and engineered by Eloise Molle.

The Blizzards’ album Sometimes We See More in the Dark is out now on Warner Music Ireland.

Playing the IMRO Other Room at Other Voices 2022

This December, Other Voices celebrate it’s 21st anniversary, live and online with some of the world’s most exciting acts.

Stunning live sets will be beamed live to the Other Voices’ YouTube each night, with dozens of Ireland’s brightest new voices taken to the stages along the Dingle Gin Music Trail from 2 – 4 December.

Check-out the artists set to take to the IMRO Other Room below:

Kynsy

Welcome to the world of Kynsy: a colourful, weird place of harsh edges and soft storytelling, where unwavering authenticity reigns king and the building blocks are constantly shapeshifting around you. It is the world constructed by 24-year-old Ciara Lindsey, who is still constructing herself, throwing love songs and confrontational battlecries at the wall to see what sticks.

It began with the rising Dubliner’s debut EP Things That Don’t Exist released last year, a few months after she featured in the NME 100 who praised the EP as, “a masterclass of channeling angst into disarming indie for a new generation.”  Her music caught the attention of The Irish Times, naming her one of 50 people to watch in 2022; the Quietus who included the debut EP as the best new music of that month; glowing reviews from the likes of DIY, DORK and Clash, who called Kynsy’s first release “raw and breathtaking”.  BBC Radio 1 proved to be equally supportive with Jack Saunders, Annie Mac and Gemma Bradley all championing her and she was chosen as a BBC Introducing artist for Radio 1’s Big Weekend.  But that four-track release still wasn’t enough – Kynsy is an endlessly prolific songwriter. Her mind has been thrumming with tunes for the last five years, and at this point she’s just itching to get them out.

Freedom has always been the most important thing, and with second EP – Something To Do With Love – you sense Kynsy fully embracing the confidence that comes with her ever-growing knowledge as a songwriter, producer and performer, presenting a boisterous collection of tracks without being constrained by genre, format, theme, or, well, anyone but herself. She’s indebted to the artists she grew up on – David Bowie’s chameleonic glamour and the Beatles’ peerless crowd pleasing, as much as The Strokes’ seductive stubbornness and the way nobody writes lyrics quite like David Byrne. But still, The new songs build on the swaggering wit of the first EP, the observational frustration with modern living now shapeshifting into something broader, grander, even stronger.

Live she has performed at Pitchfork Festivals London and Paris, The Great Escape, Neighbourhood Weekender, Truck Festival, Tramlines, Y Not Festival, Live at Leeds in The Park, Forbidden Fruit, Electric Picnic and Other Voices.

Bricknasty

Rapidly becoming one of the most talked about live acts in Ireland, Bricknasty emerged from Ballymun at the beginning of 2020 as a lockdown studio project that has developed into a band taking in members from across the country – singer and guitarist Fatboy, drummer Korey Thomas and bassist Dara Abdurahman. Featured in District Magazine’s Future of Irish music 2021 feature and described by BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders as his favourite type of jazz mixed with every other genre under the sun, they draw influence from Neo-Soul while putting their boisterous and eclectic nature on full display. From infectious energy and soulful chords to its soft, woozy vocals, the band combine R&B, hip-hop and an anarchic musical approach that stems from singer Fatboy’s roots in the Balbutcher Lane flats and exposure to a range of cultures, from traditional ballads to hip-hop, rave and 90s garage.

Pa Sheehy

It wasn’t just Covid-19 and lockdown, which made 2020 a year that Pa Sheehy is unlikely to forget. After a decade fronting the Irish chart-conquering Walking On Cars, he decided last July that it was time to leave the group. “When lockdown hit, the level of peace that came over me was something I’d never felt before. I slowed down and stopped thinking of the next song and the next gig for the first time in ten years. It was a chance to re-evaluate everything. Was I happy with where I was? I tried to convince myself I was and that I should be grateful, but it became apparent after some time that I wasn’t happy and it was time to make a big decision.” “There was no bust up or other big drama; it has just run it’s course” he explains. “Following all those years of being in a band, I wanted to be able to totally do my own thing, which has been very liberating. Walking On Cars was an amazing period in all our lives. The people of Dingle were with us from our first gig in a local bar, two albums later and we had toured all across the world, player to 14,000 people in Dublin’s 3Arena; and performed before Kendrick Lamar at Electric Picnic to 35,000 people singing back every word. So all in all, we did good.” Following the success of his debut EP ’The Art Of Disappearing’ a Top 10 and No.1 independent release in Ireland along with a Sell Out run of Headline shows in Ireland. After a string of festival shows this Summer and having just completed a Sold Out European tour, Pa Sheehy has just announced a row of intimate ‘Unplugged’ shows in Ireland this December.

SELLÓ

Named as Irish Times 50 Best People to Watch in 2022 and earning the prestigious cover page in January edition, the 22 year old has pioneered ‘Gaelic Drill’, a fusion of traditional Irish culture with the modern drill/ hip hop sound, a new era of music that is heavily focused on reviving classic samples and giving them a new lease of life for his generation. His debut mixtape ‘Sellotape’ debut in the Top 10 on Official Irish Album Charts, first Irish Drill Rapper to do this.

Celaviedmai

Celaviedmai (aka Mai or Cela) is a Galway born artist who has become one of the most exciting names in the Irish hip-hop and rap scene. She is recognised as a rising star both in Ireland and internationally for her incomparable stage presence and hard-hitting lyricism. Cela has an impressive performance history from the 3 Arena to the National Concert Hall, headlining her own shows and opening for artists such as Nova Twins, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Hoodie Allen and Tinchy Stryder.

You may recognise Mai from the theme song of the It Galz podcast, features in the likes of Vice, New York Times, UK Times, Hotpress Magazine, Ireland Music Week 2020, National Concert Hall x District Magazine’s Extraterrestrial, the NCH Utopia Cypher curated by Una Mullaly, BBC’s Rap Trip and RTÉ’s My Tribe (S2).

Mai’s music is celebrated for defying genres within urban contemporary and she often combines English, French and Irish in her lyrics – paying homage to her Ivorian roots. In 2022 Mai was reported as a standout artist at St. Patrick’s Festival, appeared as the cover star of the Culture Magazine in the Irish Sunday Times, opened for UK punk duo Nova Twins at Whelan’s, had her Ireland in Music performance premiered as part of the SEODA 2022 programme and was broadcasted across the USA. Mai released her much-anticipated debut EP ‘Both Sides of the Story’ to high praise, where half of the songs were added to Spotify playlists New Music Friday UK, Irish Rap & Drill 2022, The New Éire, A Breath of Fresh Éire and Ireland 2.0.

Mai had a busy summer performing at the likes of Forbidden Fruit, Wildroots, MoLi – The Museum of Modern Literature Ireland, Body & Soul, All Together Now, Connolly’s of Leap and Electric Picnic. Celaviedmai will be making her Other Voices Dingle debut this December and is currently recording new music for solo releases and collaborations in early 2023.

Merchy Christmas Returns! | The Grand Social, Dublin 17th-18th December

One Stop Band Shop Present…

Merchy Christmas,

the third!

The Grand Social, Dublin

11am-5pm, Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th December 2022

Admission: FREE with suggested donation of €5 to Dublin Simon Community

Cash only!

Merchy Christmas is back! A real-life merch market where all your favourite artists flog their wares directly to you, their fans. Established during the Christmas lock-down in 2020, it was the brainwave of Conor Cusack (Saint Sister’s manager at ie:music) and Saint Sister. Chatting about ways to create a personal connection with their listeners and thank them for their support over the difficult year, they had the idea of a public merch stall. After reaching out to their pals like Lankum, Gilla Band, and Kojaque, it became clear that this was something lots of other artists wanted to be part of. Merchy Christmas was born! Working with Keiron Black and the folks at The Grand Social (longstanding champions of the independent music community) they put together a two-day event across multiple floors, which was hugely successful. 2021 saw the market return in full force. Once again, amidst challenging restrictions, it succeeded in raising much needed funds for the artists, and for a truly important cause.

Merchy Christmas proudly partners with Dublin Simon Community to fundraise at their most urgent time of year. With a suggested donation of €5 on the door, in 2021 a whopping €4,915 was raised! This year organisers are aiming to hit €10,000! They will be pulling out all the stops, including a juicy raffle each day, with limited-edition merch kindly donated by the artists taking part across the weekend.

“We are so grateful to the organisers and artists involved in Merchy Christmas. The music community in Ireland has a strong record of supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and we are blown away that this support has only gotten stronger during a period which has been extremely difficult for artists. It’s commitment like this that keeps our vital services running, which are needed now more than ever as we grapple with the highest level of homelessness the country has ever seen. On behalf of our community, thank you so much for your support.” – Aisling Harmey, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Dublin Simon Community

Where the Waters Meet | IMRO Creative Rooms

IMRO Creative Rooms is an online content series that invites artists to share an intimate insight into their creative process, by showing the spaces they create in.

After years of making music separately, singer-songwriter Megan O’Neill and drummer / multi-instrumentalist Paul Kenny are now joining forces as a new duo called Where the Waters Meet.

The pair’s first release from Where the Waters Meet is a cover of ‘Bette Davis Eyes’, commissioned by the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards) as part of their ‘ReImagined’ series.

Though this is their first performance at the cabin as an official duo, O’Neill has recorded several songs there for her “Live at the Log Cabin” video series — featuring Kenny as part of her band in at least two installments.

How important is it for you to have a dedicated creative space?

It’s important for every artist to have a space they can go to create either solo or collaboratively and we’re really lucky to have such a gorgeous space to work from. For us, the big thing is having everything ready to go in the studio so that we don’t have to waste time setting up gear or finding cables, etc. – which inevitably disrupts the creative flow. Obviously things get in the way of that sometimes but the more we can prepare and avoid that the better – and we couldn’t do that without a dedicated creative space.

What makes this space work for you?

Our studio is a Log Cabin in a remote location which is something we love. We find it really peaceful here, surrounded by nature.

In what way(s) does this space influence your output?

We first started collaborating in this space before ‘Where the Waters Meet’ really developed into a project and I think the actual, physical space of where the Cabin is located allows us time to sit and think about sounds, lyrics, production, etc. in a way that writing in other locations hasn’t before. Having the studio setup exactly how we like also influences our creative output and workflow – although this is always a work in progress.

What’s your favourite instrument/piece of kit? And why?

The combination of the Elektron Digitakt triggering a Nord Drum 3P. The Digitakt is a sampler/groovebox/sequencer that has fantastic sounds and the Nord Drum 3P is a drum synth that has some of the most organic sounding tuned percussion which works beautifully with the Digitakt. We also have a Planetarium by a company called Neon Egg which is a beautiful, lush reverb/echo unit. The 3 of these are usually chained together so it’s hard to separate which one we love more.

What would make this space better for you?

We’d love to own this cabin so we could develop it into a full blown studio space – but hopefully that’ll be a future project somewhere down the line. A little more space is always handy….
