Eve & I launch their kickstarter on the 6th of August, a 24 day all-or-nothing campaign to raise £2,500 towards the production of their new EP by midnight on Friday the 29th of August. The money raised will go towards recording, mixing, mastering the EP tracks as well as the production of two music videos; for which Eve & I are proud to announce they will be teaming up with director Riccardo Servini.
The kickstarter is not only a way for people to pre-order their copy of the EP, its a chance for people to share their talents and collaborate with the band. There are some great rewards on offer too: house gigs, limited edition copies of the EP artwork, personalized acoustic videos, commissioned songs and even a chance to star in the Eve & I music videos.

Cathryn Green releases new ‘The Apple’ EP on Sept 4th
South African-born Cathryn Green is celebrating her recently-acquired Irish citizenship with her second EP, The Apple, which is set for digital release on September 4th, 2014 followed by a series of live gigs (full details to be confirmed).
The Apple contains three Green originals, ‘Hello’, ‘The Apple’ and ‘Place To Belong’, a co-write with and also featuring Shane Ó Fearghail of Caruso. There is also an inventive reworking of the Depeche Mode classic ‘Enjoy the Silence’, which Green obtained permission from Sony ATV Publishing to distribute worldwide. Production for the EP began in Brighton with Ian Caple (Tricky, Suede) who worked on ‘Hello’ and ‘The Apple’. In Dublin, Bill Shanley (Ray Davies, Eleanor McEvoy) continued on the production along with Andrew Holdsworth (The Cure, Mary Black). In the Isle of Skye, Denis Blackham (The Unthanks, Tears for Fears) mastered Green’s EP.
The Apple will be available worldwide in over 30 digital stores, including iTunes, Spotify, 7Digital, Deezer, Rhapsody and XBox.
Since arriving in Ireland in 2008, Green has been developing her craft by playing in pubs and venues around Ireland, the UK and Europe, all whilst holding down a full time job as an accountant. The EP artwork features photography from Green’s childhood, as the songs chosen reflect different stages in Green’s life in South Africa, to finding her place in Ireland. “Along the way I’ve felt like a child, I’ve been so naive but at the same time I’ve been thankful for the mistakes I’ve made, and coming to Ireland has taught me to be more independent. ”The Apple EP is intended to turn the apple idiom on its head, “My family’s influence will always be in my headspace but to me, I am now the more audible voice.”
Regarding her recent citizenship, “I feel like I’ve come full circle as my great grandparents were Irish, and now I am too.” Green’s debut EP, ‘Can You Understand?’ released in 2010, sparked interest from various press and media, not only in Ireland but also in the UK and Europe. Jackie Hayden (the man who originally signed U2) declared Cathryn Green, Best Female Solo Act of 2010 in the highly-respected Irish publication, Hot Press stating ‘this is so good we could soon be claiming her as one of our own.’ How prophetic his comments turned out to be!
Previews of The Apple can now be heard on soundcloud.com/cathryn-green.

Bat Kinane comes out on top at Sean Mc Carthy Ballad Competition
Bat Kinane has been crowned the winner of the 2014 Sean Mc Carthy Ballad Competition held at Finuge, Co. Kerry, 20 years after the inaugural event.
Twelve composers were chosen from all entries and performed with the Wicklow native coming out on top with his work ‘Mary’.
“It was a great feeling to win a competition in honour of songwriting legend Sean Mc Carthy and also to perform in front of one of Ireland’s greatest and most successful songwriters, Brendan Graham who compered the event. Earlier this year I attended a seminar at IMRO hosted by Brendan and little did I know then that I would get a chance to perform in front of him and get his seal of approval for my song. I am also thankful to IMRO for all the songwriting seminars they have put on in the past year or so. I got to put the knowledge I learned from those seminars by Brendan Graham, Ralph Murphy, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Pat Pattison into practical use when I wrote ‘Mary’.”
You can keep up with Bat on Facebook and Twitter.

Barry & Liebe release 4-track EP ‘Mariposa’
Barry Hughes & Liebe Kelly (B&L) both grew up in Carrickmacross and were childhood friends. Both moved to various locations through their teens and 20’s and a number of years back found themselves living back in their hometown. Now in their 30’s B&L are both highly trained and educated musicians and between them play a wide variety of instruments – a list which is continuously being added to.
‘Mariposa’ by Barry & Liebe was recorded back in March of 2014 and launched to what can only be described as 2 amazing sell out shows in The Carrickmacross Workhouse, soon to become The Workhouse Theatre. With 4 tracks of original material, Mariposa is an eclectic mix of Alternative Easy Listening which gives the listener just a taste of what is to come from Barry & Liebe.
Tracks:
1. Dear Beautiful Dreamer
2. You Know What
3. Reveal
4. Wonder Why
DEAR BEAUTIFUL DREAMER – a song written by Liebe about and dedicated to a dear friend of Liebe’s who passed away a number of years ago. Dara Haksins was a great lover of poetry and the outdoors. The video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEvZmcLL6-w ) to accompany was shot and edited in such a way to have Dara featuring in the video in many different and subtle ways. The Butterfly (Mariposa in Spanish) which features on the E.P. sleeve is a concept on which the song was built – Watch the video and see this mystical butterfly being brought to life. Incidentally the Butterfly was hand drawn by Liebe and scanned into the design work.
YOU KNOW WHAT – a rhythmical song which airs some bottled up opinions and views about the day to day slog that life can sometimes present to us. YOU KNOW WHAT is based on past and present with old and new lyrics from Barry’s catalogue. A classical interlude reminds us that safety and tranquility is never too far away and we should always strive & fight to better ourselves.
REVEAL – based on mainly vocal work REVEAL is a song which expresses that awkward moment when you don’t know where you stand in the relationship. The echoing “REVEAL” throughout the song signifies that nagging feeling that maybe it’s just not meant to be.
WONDER WHY – simply about the one that got away.
Digital download of ‘Mariposa’ is available by clicking the following link: https://itunes.apple.com/ie/album/mariposa-ep/id853749726
