Fastnet Film Festival 2023 commences with stellar line-up
Fastnet Film Festival will take place in Schull, West Cork from Wednesday the 24th to Sunday 28th of May. Special guest, Award winning actor Aidan Quinn will screen four of his features and will be interviewed by Greg Dyke. Academy Award winning filmmakers Ross White and Tom Berkeley will screen ‘An Irish Goodbye’ followed by a Q&A with Award Winning Director Lenny Abrahamson. Tom and Ross will also host the now famous film Quiz.
Catherine Clinch the quiet girl herself will take part in a Q&A following the screening of An Cailín Ciúin as part of Irish Language Film Day on Cape Clear. There will be over 60 participating guests including: Several members of ‘The Dry’ team; Director Paddy Breathnach, Writer Nancy Harris, Producers Emma Norton and Ed Guiney, Score Composer Sarah Lynch and Juliet Martin, Several members of the An Cailín Ciúin Team: Editor John Murphy, Cinematographer Kate McCullough, Score Composer Stephen Rennicks, Foley Artists Caoimhe Doyle and Jean McGrath.
The festival will screen almost 200 short films and 10 features in 10 venues around Schull. Enjoy Seminars, Masterclasses and Workshops covering, Filming Action Scenes, Editing, Casting, Auditioning, Cinematography, Acting, Shorts to Feature, Funding, Foley Artistry, Regional Filmmaking and more. Fringe events will include: Live music, Drama, Book readings, Movie Quiz, Café viewing all over town and high quality, free family entertainment for all.
Music in film elements sponsored by IMRO will include:
-A medley of short archival and cotemporary films about West Cork preserved in the IFI Irish Film Archive accompanied live by Stephen Warbeck on accordion, Sarah Homer on clarinet and Maurice Seezer on melodica.
-Collaborating with the composer – Anna Rice Masterclass, introduced by Sarah Glennane
-De-Composing ‘The Dry’. The Dry composer Sarah Lynch and Music Supervisor Juliet Martin in conversation with Stephen Rennicks.
-Wrap Party concert with Dogtail soup.
Back by popular demand is the outdoor screen in the park where the village will be treated to free screenings on Sunday the 28th. This year’s county focus in on Ukrainian film with a curated programme or Ukrainian films being screened over the five days.
