Joe Chester Announces New Double A-Side Single

On Friday December 3rd, Joe Chester releases “Turner Watercolour Eyes”, a double A-Side single containing a new re-imagining of ‘Dark Haired Mistress’ and a 2021 remix of ‘Maybe This Is Not Love’

‘Dark Haired Mistress’ originally featured on Joe’s 2011 album, ‘Hope Against Hope’ while ‘Maybe This Is Not Love’ was the lead track on 2008’s ‘The Tiny Pieces Left Behind’.’

Joe Chester says;

‘The Tiny Peces Left Behind’ was my second solo album and while at the time I resisted the concept of the notorious “difficult second album syndrome,” it’s true that looking back now, I can see that the process of making it (after the success of ‘A Murder Of Crows’) was pretty tortuous.

It was the classic case of accumulating more and more material without ever making decisions until it became this behemoth that I couldn’t face mixing.

My old friend David Odlum (The Frames) had just set up in Black Box studios in France and he valiantly made a version with some input from the legendary Iain Burgess and some others tried too until in the end that old adage that “Albums are never finished, just abandoned,” came true.

With a release date deadline looming, I threw myself into it and did the best I could. Truth be told, I’ve never been happy with the result, hence, 13 years later and with the undeniable advances in digital recording technology, I felt it was time to test the water.

‘Dark Haired Mistress’ is a song I’ve always liked from what was definitely a transitional period between ‘She Darks Me’ and ‘The Easter Vigil’. I felt I didn’t get it right at the time of recording – it never quite came into focus. That happens, sometimes you just miss it. I took the old version, scrapped some parts, added new piano, guitars and strings and remixed it like that. “

‘Turner Watercolour Eyes’ will be available from Friday December 3rd exclusively on joechester.bandcamp.com

Successful recipients of the MISP scheme, ONSET began remotely writing and recording a four track EP over lockdown in 2021 developing a unique and fresh sound. Their debut single ‘Invictus’ tied in with their nationwide tour in 2021 and 2022.

Through funding from the Arts Council of Ireland ONSET, will embark on a series of live shows through 2021 and 2022 where they are sure to wow audiences with their extraordinary musicianship through a mix of brand new music, tunes from Padraig Rynne’s 2019 album Conscious, and original songs from Niall McCabe.

Described as “one of the freshest sounds in Irish music”, Pádraig Rynne is a virtuoso musician, prolific composer and is regarded as the finest concertina player in Irish music today. Enda Gallery Releases New EP ‘Liberation’

‘Liberation’ is the new EP by Leixlip-born, Clare-based artist Enda Gallery, a record of stunning intensity, beauty, and potency.

It is a musical recollection of a journey undertaken by skilful songwriter.

Prior to releasing his debut album ‘The Journey to Zero’ in April 2020, Enda had collaborated with the likes of Kid Simius, Dead Rabbit, Nobody’s Face and written/produced for Tolü Makay, Wilzee and Strange Boy.

His history of producing and enabling these artists across many genres have gifted him the thoughtful capability to mix his skills, self-determination, and empathy with a mastery of his own presence inside of a song.

This combination results in his ‘Liberation’ EP, which is a truly sincere and compassionate collection of songs filled with vigour and lushness.

On ‘Old Fashioned’, we are treated to the euphoric essence of Berlin – rapturous, blissful, and emotionally delicate all in the same breath.

Enda Gallery sings over a pulsing clubland style piano loop “In the city of hoping, in the city of the fear/ In the city of floating, you make me want to be Old Fashioned”.

It’s a love song to everything Enda Gallery has found in his secondary home in the German capital.

Enda is an artist with a real purpose, and that is to create beautiful and liberating art. He takes influence from genre-defying artists such as Frank Ocean and Prince – mixed with the deep sincerity of Sufjan Stevens, Alicia Keys and even Freddie Mercury. Through this sense of creative deliverance, we hear his truest realisations and experiences with songs such as ‘Super Raw’ and ‘This Is That Moment’.

Marinated in flavours of soul, hip hop, techno, and gospel we are left with songs which peel back the layers of self-incrimination and personal disenfranchisement. The highly danceable title track ‘I Want Liberation’ is exemplary in showcasing Enda Gallery’s finesse for uplifting and gracious pop songs.

‘Liberation’, the new EP from Enda Gallery, is out now via Welcome to the New World.

New Album From CADA ‘Fugue State’

Fugue State is the culmination of two years of writing and recording that saw the release of the critically acclaimed LPs ‘Muloc’ in 2020 and ‘Liminal V’ earlier this year.

With Fugue State, CADA utilises a more traditional palette of instrumentation to write the genesis of the tracks, improvising large sections of the album and keeping imperfect takes. This extemporaneous approach to composition resulted in a more open sounding, unfettered sound that looks to the future with optimism.

The LP is a terse thirty minutes that wears its influences on its sleeve, melting together stylistic elements of jazz, funk and hip hop while expanding on the ambient soundscapes and polyrhythms of past works.

The album can be found here here: https://smarturl.it/Cada

New Single From Molly O’Mahony ‘Brother Blue’

“My main concern as an artist is with feeling the world around me in all its delicate complexity, and giving voice to those feelings and stirrings of the human condition which are deep and nuanced, and often nebulous. I follow in the tradition of Joni Mitchell, who through dissecting the deeply personal, tapped into that which is universal and unifying.”

Possessing of a “rich 80% dark chocolate” voice and an acute sensitivity for the emotive power of words, Molly O’Mahony’s song writing is raw and unabashed.

Molly spent the past decade writing and performing with art-folk group Mongoose, who have been a fixture of the Irish music scene since their formation in 2012. The band have released two albums and two EPS in that time and have shared stages with the likes of Glen Hansard, Mary Coughlan and Eddi Reader.

She returned to her family home to Ballydehob, West Cork, in March of last year. Against the backdrop of the unfolding pandemic, she began work on her debut solo collection. The first single ‘Remember to Be Brave’, was released in June. Brother Blue is the follow-up single from the highly anticipated album, due for release in 2022.

Molly says “Brother Blue was inspired by a meeting with my younger brother some years back, which triggered a storm of sadness in me and frustration around my powerlessness to halt family patterns of self-criticism. I wrote it as a means of reaching out and closing a gap with him; to remind him of his inherent worth and esteem in my eyes, and to offer a sense of succour through the commonality of our experiences. I was reading Cheryl Strayed’s Tiny Beautiful Things at the time, which is referenced in the final line of the song. It is ultimately a song of hope and a declaration of one’s birth right to live as one deserving of life in all its richness.”

Lavelle Announce New Single ‘Try Harder’

Dublin-based indie rock band Lavelle is this week announcing the release of their new single TRY HARDER on all digital platforms.

The latest release off their forthcoming album, ‘Try Harder’ is an up-tempo track based around a catchy vocal melody, driven by guitar and bass and culminating in musical chaos!

The band is accompanied on this track by singer Maria Hynes on backing vocals, who provides an extra harmonic lift throughout.

Together since 2014, three-piece Lavelle have spent recent years in and out of Dublin’s Camden Recording Studios working on their debut album ‘Stem The Flow’ (scheduled for release in 2022) with veteran Irish producer and sound engineer Conor Brady.

The band’s four-track EP ‘Feel Like I Do’ was released in April 2017, followed in recent years by several singles off the album. Most recently the band released ‘Start as Friends’, a light and up-tempo summer track based around a mellow acoustic guitar hook and driven by a simple bass groove.

Commenting on the theme of their latest release, Lavelle’s lead singer and songwriter John Ryan said: “The song is about knowing when a relationship is going to end. The fear of being on your own but making that difficult decision to end it because at the time you believe it is the right one.”

‘Try Harder’ is available on all digital platforms from Friday, 26th November.

Denise Chaila Releases New EP ‘It’s A Mixtape’

As an artist always pushing boundaries and delighting in non-conformity, it shouldn’t come as a shock when Denise Chaila surprises us with a brand new project – but the internationally acclaimed rapper has a knack for the unexpected.

On Friday 26th November , narolane records releases a brand new EP from Denise Chaila.

The 5-track EP is irreverently titled ‘It’s A Mixtape ’ – if you know, you know.

Featuring ‘061’, the track that saw MTV teach the world Limerick’s area code, and most recent single ‘Energy’, which displays a whole different side to Denise Chaila, the EP also features two further songs ‘Might Be’ and ‘Return of the King’ as well as the powerful interlude, ‘I a M’.

It’s the fiercely-titled ‘Return of the King’ that Chaila hones in on as the focus track for this EP, and it certainly lives up to its title with the MC taking her sound in an exciting new direction full of colour, character and life, displaying her artistic range. ‘Return of the King’ reminds everyone that, at her core, Denise Chaila is, above-all, a bona fide MC with deliveries as fiery as they are grimey.

On Monday, Denise Chaila launched the next RTÉ Choice Music Prize, which she won earlier this year with her debut mixtape, ‘Go Bravely’ – the first time a mixtape was ever awarded the prestigious Album of the Year title. Just this past weekend, ‘Go Bravely’ was named in the Irish Independent’s ‘10 Best Irish Albums of the Past 10 Years’.

Chaila has just returned from playing Pitchfork Paris, where hundreds of people sang back the words of her single ‘Anseo’ (the Irish word for ‘here’).

She has further dates set across Europe before her headline show at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre on Friday 25th February 2022. Tickets are on sale now
