Casual, the second single from Laura Elizabeth Hughes‘s forthcoming debut album is set to be released Wednesday 17th July 2024.
Since the release of her self produced and recorded EP We, Myself, I in 2021, touted as her finest and most honest work to date, Laura has been working on a larger project. Wanting more autonomy over the whole process, and wanting to challenge herself personally and artistically, a body of work was underway, an ambitious one that was afforded an Agility Award by the Arts Council.
This track from the upcoming body of work, Casual, is a piano and stack layered vocal wonder that beautifully showcases Hughes’s way with words and her ability to draw you in and keep you there.
“Casual is about not taking for granted the closeness, freedom and lightness of youth – it’s airy but close, and inspired by the knotted up ties we create with our childhood places and people. I wanted a sonic air of very simple sun drenched nostalgia for a time when time seemingly stood still.”
