Chris Wong releases his brand new track ‘She Stays West’. The Irish/Hong-Kongese 25 year-olds first release after a whirlwind end to 2023. Captivating audiences at a sold out debut headline show in London, music festivals aplenty (Forbidden Fruit, All Together Now, Other Voices) and even a debut appearance in America for SofarSounds.
‘She Stays West’, recorded at The Clinic Recording Studios alongside David Curley (The Cope), comes from a fruitful session bearing contributions from Rob de Boer (Papa Romeo, FRANK ZING), Louis Younge (Bricknasty, Sky Atlas) and Dan Coyne (Cooks But We’re Chefs, Papa Romeo).
‘She Stays West’ came about during a time of complete stillness for Wong. In 2020, he spent several months living on the West coast of Ireland in a tiny townless area in rural Mayo, Killadoon. With poetic, passionate contemplations of a life of peace, serenity and soulful living outside of his native city of Dublin, Chris was compelled to write. Wong’s fourth single promises an unparalleled sonic journey that resonates deeply with listeners.
Chris explains, “I wrote this the day I moved back to Dublin, inspired by the tranquil nature and pace of life out West. The lyrics are written as if it were a love song about a girl, but listen closely and you’ll understand the metaphor. I wanted the story to be something everyone could relate to so I opted to hide its meaning, ‘Easy on the eye if you could see her, I know she ain’t my type but that’s alright. Sun is coming out, she’s getting sweeter, what I see is all mine.’
