Fourth New Video from Indie Outfit Loko Parentis to Back Latest Album

April 29, 2024

Dream Revolution’ is the latest video release by Dublin-based indie/alternative outfit, Loko Parentis who earlier this month released a brand new compilation album of tracks from their first two albums (2009 and 2010.)  The new album is called ‘Dream Longer Than You Sleep’ and the ‘Dream Revolution’ track is the fourth of six videos released to tie-in with the album.

This video, plus the previous three, are available to stream on: https://lokoparentis.bandcamp.com/video while the remaining two videos will be released in the coming weeks.

This ‘Dream Revolution’ video has a special Cork focus featuring, as it does, one of the last images of the legendary and now sadly defunct Leeside venue, Sir Henry’s, prior to its demolition. The exterior shot, taken by Loko’s Paul O’Mahony, was used in a recent David Gray documentary. The video features the also-legendary original manager of the venue, Jimmy O’Hara, and a number of Cork bands in which O’Mahony played, including Cork’s first punk band Berserk, and early ‘80s power-pop group, Factor Fiction.

The album ‘Dream Longer Than You Sleep’ is a scintillating blast of guitars-with-attitude, and laden with hooks and choruses. The various band members cite influences like Television, Magazine, Sonic Youth, Mott The Hoople, Sex Pistols, and The Clash.

The album cover of ‘Dream Longer Than You Sleep’ features professional footballer, Emma Starr, in what is believed to be the first album cover featuring a professional female footballer. Starr, from Philadelphia, USA, was a Women’s National League and Cup double-winner with Dublin’s Shelbourne FC in season 2022. She now plays in Australia and scored the winning goal in the Grand Final there in October 2023 and was selected in the Team of the Year in November 2023. The 2024 season recently kicked off ‘down under’.

Loko Parentis began as a studio project in Cork in 1981 and featured members of Nun Attax and Cork’s first punk band, Berserk. Loko Parentis was founded by Paul O’Mahony, ex-Berserk, who has remained its driving force ever since the original ‘80s demo, which garnered considerable national and local airplay at the time. An amended line-up played the Oxegen Festival in 2007 (Pet Sounds stage, opening for acts like Sinead O’Connor and Brian Wilson). The Loko Parentis line-up on the new compilation album and videos features Paul O’Mahony with ex-members of The Gurriers, Las Vegas Basement, The Cherries, Estel and The Evil Kneivals.
