Humble Your Eyes, A new single from Singer-Songwriter & Dancer Dora Gola

“Humble your eyes” is a real musical kaleidoscope. Its lyrics are filled with jungle visions and spiritual epiphany. The choruses boom like a warning from the deep night of the jungle but are sung like a primordial prayer. This track will take you to the deepest and darkest parts of the jungle. This is the 7th single promoting the upcoming album “Dance With Danger”. Dora’s voice is sweet and lustrous. Tones of Bjork and Billie Eilish are evident. The song’s orchestral score climbs and descends like the amazonian vines never letting up, never resolving the unending quest to find life’s deepest answers in the dark embrace of the wild.

Listen on Friday 29th of March.

Alt-Country Troubadour Podge Lane Releases Single ‘Down’

Wielding astute honesty tinged with weightless levity, Podge Lane provides a glimpse into his third studio album with new single ‘Down’ on March 22nd, as he returns to the UK on his ‘Sad But Tourable’ dates.

An artist renowned for redefining the alt-country genre, Podge Lane remains defiant against the forces that promise to knock him down. Revitalised, Lane injects his signature roots rock stylings with blistering, distorted vocals hinged against experimental electric guitar licks that hint towards a tonal rebirth for Podge Lane.

Delving a little deeper, Lane expounds; “’Down’ is every comment, every criticism made by the people around you, and even by yourself, that makes you think you aren’t good enough. Wrapped in a neat little bow, that was then dipped in paint, ripped up and set on fire.”

Brandishing his influences from country icons John Prine to The Avett Brothers, Lane emerges with ‘Down’ introducing elements of coarse rock twists from artists such as T-Rex and The White Stripes.

Lane’s already expansive catalogue has garnered praise from Golden Plec, Hot Press, The Irish Post, American Songwriter and The Grateful Web, applauding the songwriter for his “ability to flip traditional country tropes on their head with his reflective storytelling and original sound.”

Embarking on his ‘Sad But Tourable’ UK dates, Podge Lane welcomes audiences to a new sonic era, with the same chaos and comedy for good measure.

Tour Dates

Fri. March 15 – Oxford @ The TAP Social Movement
Sun. March 17 – Soho, London @ The Spice of Life
Tues. March 19 – Camden, London @ The Basement Bar, The Green Note
Fri. March 22 – Norwich @ Anteros Arts Foundation

“Cork-based singer-songwriter is a serious one to watch combining feel-good energy and vibrant instrumentation with painfully honest lyrics” (Hot Press Magazine).

“You can hear similarities to his contemporaries such as Willie J Healey and Boy Azooga. Yet there is a retrospective element that is subtly Dylan-esque.” (Clunk Magazine)

“Podge has his musical DNA set for him. Blending from his root genres of bluegrass, indie-rock, and country, Podge Lane creates music that will resonate with the listener while having a sound anchored in life.“ (Sinusoidal Music)

Paris is the third single from Evie’s much-anticipated sophomore EP ‘Shiny Things.’ Shiny Things is a 5-track EP, set for release May 2024. The first single ‘Devil’ and second single ‘Mighty Boy’ earned nationwide acclaim.

Paris is a delicate mix of raw guitar, intimate vocals, violin and considered percussion. Silky lyrics and a low-end soundscape, balance beau8fully, the depth and delicacy of this track.

Evie says: “Paris is the solace song of the EP. Less fuss, more fiddle and showcased in a way that I think, extends a lot more grit to a snug tune like this.” Paris marks the soder, yet dynamic side of the Shiny Things EP. The track lingers on an Irish jig, paying tribute to the assured rhythm and cosiness of acoustic-led song wri8ng – a trademark of Evie’s sound. Paris and the Shiny Things EP was recorded in Sun Studios, Dublin, produced by Jack Joyce and mastered by Killian Taylor.

19-year-old Bea and her Business shares new Single ‘WOW!’ – out now

Bea and her Business is just getting started, but the 19-year-old is already making waves in the UK and beyond. After achieving over 47 million streams for her debut EP ‘Introverted Extrovert’, her next release ‘Me Against My Head’ amplified her growing profile, achieving 959k streams and 2.8 million TikTok views, growing her TikTok profile to 1.6 million. Now Bea takes the next step in her rise by sharing the new single ‘WOW!’.

‘WOW!’ reaffirms that Bea and Her Business is an artist with the ability to express a whirlwind of coming-of-age emotions within her instantly engaging pop earworms. It’s a song about the exhilaration and anticipation of suddenly being infatuated with a boy who looks “like a God in the middle of the street,” but also the confusion that comes with not knowing what to do about it – all ensuring that Bea’s self-deprecating humour will speak to anyone who has been through the same thing. The song effortlessly captures that rush of excitement as it bursts from Bea’s scene-setting verses into a joyously irresistible funk-fuelled hook.

Bea says, “I wrote this song at 17, at a time in my life where everything to do with falling in love was incredibly cringe and despicable, ha! So I basically turned the whole song into a joke to mirror the fact that I thought I was a joke of a human being for lowkey falling in love with this guy I’d been seeing for 3 days LOL! Hence the ‘I’m a wetwipe’ line. He dumped me soon after but at least I got the song! This song is definitely for the people who think they’re super badass and cold-hearted but deep down they’re absolute suckers for a bit of romance.”

Bea wrote ‘WOW!’ with Hiten & Bhav and was completed with producer Stuart Price.

Bea’s songs connect with fans so naturally as her conversational stories reflect the experiences that so many of them are going through. They can be light, witty, and playful: see how ‘All The Boys’ finds both the humour and sadness in realising that all the effort you’ve made to attract a love interest has been in vain. Yet she is just as articulate in exploring weightier issues, such as the struggles with body confidence and social vulnerabilities that she shares in ‘Me Against My Head’. Collectively, her growing catalogue positions her as this generation’s answer to Lily Allen, but with a contemporary touch that will also speak to fans of Olivia Rodrigo and Lana Del Rey.

Also influenced by poetry, especially Kate Bingham and Leonard Cohen, Bea has been writing songs since childhood while her first following was established after sharing her takes on some of her favourite songs via social media. Her debut single ‘Born To Be Alive’ made a huge impact, as it exceeded 25 million streams, landed her first Radio 1 airplay, and even raced up the Nordic charts, while the subsequent ‘Introverted Extrovert’ EP cemented her reputation as an artist to watch. ‘Me Against My Head’ continued that momentum, her relatable humour and warmth at socials helping to contribute to 10,000 pre-saves for the track.

Yet while her growing online following is undeniable, she is quickly establishing an IRL fanbase too. Her first public performance came in front of a huge festival audience in Oslo, while back home in London she sold-out her first full headline show at Omeara. She then confirmed details of her first full European headline tour, and strong demand for tickets resulted in her London and Cologne dates selling out weeks in advance. Limited tickets for the rest of the tour, scheduled below, are available HERE.

Bring Your Own Hammer brings historians and composers together and release album ‘My Grief On The Sea’

Bring Your Own Hammer brings historians and composers together to create new and original song cycles based on historical sources and to re-interpret song material rooted in the history of nineteenth-century Ireland and of the Irish Diaspora. It is not a band, a group, an ensemble or even a collective. If anything, it is a faction but unlike nineteenth-century Irish factions, who met, armed with sticks and two-handed wattles in fairs and markets, it is armed with voices and instruments and dedicated, as no faction before, to the re-interpretation of historical material in song form.

The Album

In March 2024, we release our first album, My Grief on the Sea, which is brimming with superb contributions from leading Irish and international composers, musicians and singers including Agu, Linda Buckley, Cathal Coughlan, Adrian Crowley, Neil Farrell, Eileen Gogan, Tony Higgins, Carol Keogh, Michelle O’Rourke, Wally Nkikita, Brigid Mae Power, Michael J Sheehy, Mike Smalle and Jah Wobble.

The first in a series of major releases from Bring Your Own Hammer, the album offers a collection of songs about the sea, sea journeys and migration to and from Ireland in the nineteenth century. You are invited to journey with us as we criss-cross the Atlantic world following the remaining threads of lives shaped, in one way or another, by the sea. You will hear the echoes of words, from a bog in Co. Roscommon, sung in grief for a lost lover, who has departed overseas in the decades after the Famine (on the beautiful title track, Michelle O’Rourke’s ‘My Grief on the Sea’).  You can catch lines written in the letters of migrants to North America, matched with beautiful melodies (Golden Streets, Bitter Tears – Adrian Crowley with Brigid Mae Power). You can imagine yourself with Carol Keogh on the quays of New Ross in 1849, as Biddy and Catherine Keogh depart for New York (on the stunning ‘A Pair of Packed Valises (before the Dunbrody), 1849’) or picture yourself crossing the Atlantic on board a ship with Mary Connaughty in 1881 (on the melancholy and haunting ‘Old Oak Road’ by Mike Smalle with Cathal Coughlan and Jah Wobble). Join Cathal Coughlan and Linda Buckley on the roads of Co. Carlow, during the 1832 cholera epidemic, as a man called Crowley returns to Ireland after thirty years at sea (on the complex and poignant ‘The Man with Open Arms’). Sail the high seas with Eileen Gogan and Neil Farrell disguised as a cabin boy (on the sad and beautiful ‘Female Cabin Boy’) or stand with Tony Higgins and Agu on the quays of Dublin as the multitudes depart during the Famine (on the vibrant yet melancholy ‘Embarkation’). Follow Mike Smalle and Wally Nkikita as they trace Joseph Keys’ journey to Ireland from the time he leaves his life of enslavement in Virginia to his departure, from Baltimore, on board a ship across the Atlantic in early 1844 (on the melodious and tragic ‘Over the Ghosts’). Take time too to contemplate the rumble and power of the sea with Mike Smalle (on the sparkling track, ‘The Oscillating Sea’). At the end, watch Marie and her lover swimming off the coast of Ireland as the effects of the Famine drive people from the land and towards the sea (on the starkly beautiful ‘The Weight of Water’ – Michael J. Sheehy).

New Jackson shares new Single ‘Like’ featuring vocals from Riya Lynn + Yenkee

NEW JACKSON marks his long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s From Night To Night with its successor.

OOPS!… POP for long-time collaborators Permanent Vacation. The new LP is due out on vinyl/cd/digital on 19th April 2024. A concise triumph in techno pop, its 9 tracks elevate his signature electronic sounds into anthemic new heights.

Following the release of the first two tracks ‘Out of Reach’ and ‘The OK Hole’ earlier this month, New Jackson follows with new single out today [Fri 22nd March] ‘Like’, featuring Rita Lynn and Graham Cooney aka Yenkee on vocals.

Speaking of the new track, New Jackson, aka David Kitt, says: “’Like’ is a silly little tongue-in-cheek parody song that pokes fun at the state of all us saps on all our stoopid apps in the spirit of Zapp, Funkadelic, Moodyman, Dam Funk, Egyptian Lover, and Wham, always a little bit of Wham.”

David Kitt is a prolific sonic polymath who’s enjoyed a colourful career making whatever he likes. While releasing music under a vast array of aliases and collaborations for close to two and a half decades, New Jackson has remained his irregular home since 2011 for when ‘at one with the machines’. It offers a kaleidoscopic window into his love of dance music, and on his debut album under the alias From Night To Night (released in 2017 on Dublin’s All City label) he unfurled his singular vision; a dilated suite of nocturnal soul coaxed from his beloved electronic equipment with songwriter’s nous, sonically etched as blunted whispers coalesced from the dusky billows of Dublin Bay. Further EPs and singles followed, alongside a beloved live show he toured globally, plus detours with his critically-lauded Garies duo (with Lumigraph) and a David Kitt solo album.

In the time since his New Jackson debut, he has slowly distilled his studio methodology to help mine the true core of his musical self. Within this experimentation, he has stumbled upon the bounty that is OOPS!… POP, his most direct and euphoric body of work to date. Recorded across the span of five years and three different countries, Kitt has managed to transform his beloved alias into a leaner beast, tightening the screws around arrangements and songwriting to inspire an album sonically effortless in demeanour and spontaneously playful in structure and form. Aided by a stacked cast of collaborators including Rita Lynn, Donnacha Costello, Riche “Jape” Egan, Yenkee, Kean Kavanagh, Margie Jean Lewis, Meg Cronin and Fehdah, it bears the hallmarks of the studio albums of yesteryear in its dynamism and gratification while drawing on his rich bouquet of influences across a century of recorded music.

Opener SI SI SI lulls you in with its smothered vocoder’d croons and patient groove, BURNT DEEP next yields a surprising deep house turn, lit gently with casual hedonism. LIKE rewires the playbook entirely, shuffling along its minimal 80’s boogie groove with a cheeky grin, before lead single OUT OF REACH further mines the golden pastures with its glorious stuttering techno power-pop fit with that anthemic chorus. DAY IN SHOCK digi-dubs around the wonderful vocal turn of Fehdah in purest heads-down manner, then THE OK HOLE and STROBE both descend the psychedelic wormhole of anaesthetised breaks and electro with its entranced dancefloor gaze. I WANNA BE ADORED, the Madchester anthem from The Stone Roses, is then surprisingly reimagined as a lost kraut-pop robo sung classic while WITH THE NIGHT AT OUR FEET is our climactic conclusion, a mechanised symphony of dual proportions, a humane core of angelic harmonies chugging along in electro rhythm before soaring strings take us on our way.

New Jackson’s oeuvre, indeed David Kitt’s musical world, is vast; OOPS!… POP then might just be his opus across it all, a towering achievement of soaring catharsis in melody and song that soundtracks the most direct transmissions from his heart to yours.

Like’ by New Jackson is out today. Stream on Spotify.

OOPS!… POP by New Jackson is out on vinyl/digital/CD 19th April 2024 via Permanent Vacation. Pre-order on Bandcamp: https://newjackson.bandcamp.com/album/oops-pop

Also out in the coming weeks is a reissue of David Kitt’s 2006 release Not Fade Away, featuring 8 tracks from the original record lovingly remastered, a re-recording of Say No More and a brand new song Love Someone Else featuring Niamh Regan.

Irish Electro-Pop artist Emmett releases evoking new single ‘Cold Fire’

“Cold Fire has such an infectious melody, this song is catchy and makes me want to dance!”
– Live95FM

“Loving Emmett’s voice, smooth as a nice scotch on a sunny afternoon”
– Hot Amazing Network

Emmett is an Irish independent artist, currently based in London. Following on from his degree in contemporary music studies, Emmett has delved into a dystopian Electro-Pop brand of music that dares to entertain across the pop spectrum, fusing both raw, emotional vocals with his taste for energetic bass synth.

Heavily influenced by the likes of dark-electronic icons including BANKS, Troye Sivan, and SOHN, Emmett is carving a space for himself in the music industry, one where he lets sentimentality and lyricism merge before a moody sonic landscape.

This could not be more apparent than in new single ‘Cold Fire’, encapsulating all the hallmarks of a somber Electro-Pop hit packed to the brim with lyrical imagery of a doomed romantic entanglement. In his own words, Emmett comments:

“A burning effigy of an old flame. Cold Fire embodies the end of an era, the decay of a dying love story. This electro-pop offering evokes memories of a relationship that couldn’t survive, but still the embers glow. Filled with regret and reminiscence conveyed by the haunting vocal and somber tones, the fatigue of the fight echoed in the lyrics, Cold Fire is a letter of farewell to a love that never could be.”

*************

2019 saw Emmett launch his debut solo single ‘Bodies’ to great success mirrored in radio plays from RTE 2FM, Spin 1038FM, and Dublin’s 98FM to name a few, gracing the decks of the uber-current Tara Stewart and Stephen Byrne on their respective RTE 2FM shows.

Following the release of his debut single, Emmett took to the main stage at Trafalgar Square for Pride in London 2019 to a 10,000 strong crowd. He was also invited by organisers of his hometown Pride 2019 festival to open the penultimate night of celebration at Limerick City’s iconic music venue Dolan’s Warehouse.

Hugely exciting upcoming R&B/ Singer-Songwriter Rebecca Houlihan set to reach for the stars with debut hit ‘Oh La La’

Irish R&B/Soul singer-songwriter Rebecca Houlihan is back with her fierce, vibrant, and infectious new single ‘Oh La La’ set for release on March 21st.

Imagine the vibrant cityscape of Barcelona as the sun sets, casting an ethereal glow over the rooftops. On one such evening, Rebecca Houlihan found herself, perched high above the bustling streets, the weight of the day’s toils heavy on her shoulders. It was here, under the fading light, that “Oh La La” was born—a soulful anthem to the struggles and triumphs of everyday life.

Rooted in the pulse of urban living, “Oh La La” is Rebecca Houlihan’s testament to the grind. A rising star in the R&B Soul genre, Rebecca infuses her music with raw emotion and unapologetic honesty, crafting melodies that resonate with the hearts of listeners worldwide.

Enter Da Fabi, the visionary behind the beats that breathe life into “Oh La La”. Together, Rebecca and Da Fabi transform rooftop musings into a soul-stirring symphony, blending passion and innovation to create a track that pulses with the city’s heartbeat.

Set against the backdrop of Barcelona’s twilight skyline, “Oh La La” captures the essence of life’s daily struggles. From the monotony of work to the burden of bills, the song is a rallying cry for dreamers and hustlers alike, determined to carve their own path in the face of adversity.

With its infectious hooks and irresistible beats, “Oh La La” is a testament to Rebecca Houlihan’s unique blend of R&B and Soul influences. Each note is a reminder that even in the darkest of moments, there is beauty to be found in the rhythm of life.

At its core, “Oh La La” celebrates resilience and determination. Its chorus echoes the sentiments of millions: “I don’t wanna work, I don’t wanna pay my bills, but you keep coming back for more.” It’s a testament to the hustle, the drive, and the unyielding spirit of those who refuse to be defined by their circumstances.

“Oh La La” is more than just a song; it’s a journey—a journey of dreams, struggles, and triumphs. Through its infectious energy and poignant lyrics, Rebecca Houlihan and Da Fabi invite you to join them on a soulful exploration of life, love, and the pursuit of dreams.

SUN MAHSHENE, the Dublin post shoegaze sextet announce their new single, ‘New Shores’ (Radio Edit)

SUN MAHSHENE, the Dublin post shoegaze sextet announce their new single, ‘New Shores’ (Radio Edit) to be released on 22nd March.

SUN MAHSHENE are a post shoegaze band formed and based in Dublin, R.O.I. New single, ‘New Shores’ is a second taster of the band’s debut album A PLACE WE’VE NEVER BEEN, which is set for release in June. ‘New Shores’ is both bold and strident, rightfully proud of its noise credentials channelling shoegaze, anthemic indie and grunge tinged alternative DNA right through to the molten centre of its reverb drenched core. This single as with their previous release, ‘Reverie’ also features RIDE’s Mark Gardener at the controls on mastering duties.

Of song’s meaning, lead singer Nathan Henderson explains, “A lot of the lyrics are about escaping, but at the same time a lot of them are about being rooted, finding ‘home’, adding, ‘The song could be a farewell to a past lover, or indeed to a past way of life”. With its driving bass and drums, and reverbed winding guitar parts, ‘New Shores’ is the perfect follow up to ‘Reverie’. Expanding on the traditional shoegaze soundscape it combines heavy guitars with blissed out, dreamy sections, utilising synth and ambient electronic elements, giving the listener a chance to pause and breathe before the inevitable hurricane assault of MBV tremolo guitars resumes. ‘New Shores’ is joyful, upbeat, yet reflective, with a tinge of melancholy.

Formed in 2018, SUN MAHSHENE have released a series of singles and EPs. In 2020 they released the “Contradictions & Tales of Fiction” EP, followed by the single “The Righteous One“. The single was supported by a mind-bending music video, directed by award winning visual artist Ste Murray. The culmination of the band’s first phase was the release of LP Space Echoes:

The EPs released on vinyl in 2022 by Fuzzed up & Astromoon which sold out in just one day. 2022 also saw the band grow to a six piece with the addition of keyboard player Asia Wolf.  ‘New Shores’ was produced and mixed by Michael Richards and SUN MAHSHENE. Engineered by Michael Richards, recorded at Trackmix Studio, Dublin, Ireland and Mastered by Mark Gardener, OX4 Sound, UK. SUN MAHSHENE are Nathan Henderson vocals, guitar; Robert Crosbie, guitar, vocals; Ian McGinn, guitar; Asia Wolf, keyboards, vocals; David Hilliard bass, vocals; Dave Murray, drums.
