Nathan Carter ‘Staying Up All Night’ Debuts At #1 In The Irish Album Charts

Nathan-Carter-Promo-300x300Chart-topping, country music star Nathan Carter has done it again!

His fourth studio album “Stayin’ Up All Night” has shot straight to the top of the official Irish sales chart today, outselling its nearest competition by almost two to one. Not only has “Stayin’ Up All Night” stormed the Irish charts, Nathan’s last #1 album “Beautiful Life” made a re-entry to the Top 5 this week also.

On receiving the news, an overjoyed Nathan exclaimed, “I’m absolutely delighted and very proud that my album has gone straight to Number 1. I have co-written most of the songs on this album and I think it’s my best one so far which makes it’s extra special that it’s gone straight to the top of the charts. A massive ‘Thank You’ to all my fans for making this possible.”

The 25 year-old household name has had three #1 albums, two #1 singles and two #1 live DVDs featured on the Irish Charts. His last album ‘Beautiful Life’ has been certified 4-times platinum and he even had his own Christmas TV special on RTE last year.

Acknowledged as the catalyst to the rebirth of popularity of Country Music in Ireland and the dance craze that has swept the country, Nathan Carter is the most successful live act across venues in Ireland at this moment in time.

Like Bob Dylan’s ‘Never Ending Tour’, Nathan has been jumping out on stage every week for over 3 years from the head to the heal of this island. When his single release of the Bob Dylan song “Wagon Wheel” hit the number one spot on our charts, the secret was out and Nathan`s music rapidly evolved from the dance halls to the city halls, with sold out live tours to boot.

Inspired by the music his parents’ loved, music has always been at the heart of Nathan’s life. Traditional roots were in the blood, but he also grew up in a house where Country music filled the air, with his parents and his Nan filling his young head with the great songs of Johnny Cash , Waylon Jennings , Don Williams and Dolly Parton .

As a reflection, Nathan has curated his very own playlist, ‘Nathan Carter Recommends’, featuring some of his favourite Nashville inspired songs, some classic country gems and plenty of his own workings to cater to his fans. It’s available to listen here:

Stayin’ Up All Night features 13 tracks – most co-written by Nathan – of his trademark modern country sound, and was preceded by the single ‘Temple Bar’, a paen to the streets of Dublin’s famous district. Balanced with mid-tempo numbers like Island Town, Buy Me A Rose and Liverpool, there’s a gentle side to the album, with a touch of nostalgia to ease you though the morning after. Don’t Know Lonely is a huge ballad, while Banks of the Roses is a traditional stomper, revealing Nathan’s fiddles-and-accordion Irish folk roots. The album rounds off with the beautifully personal Thank You.

While he might not have stopped to catch a breath throughout 2015, there’s no sign of Nathan slowing down any time soon. He is currently on the road on the “Stayin Up All Night Tour”.

Midem to receive honourary 2016 ICMP Ralph Peer II Award for Outstanding Contribution to Global Music Publishing

Premier international music event celebrating its 50th edition

The International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP) has today revealed that leading music trade fair Midem is the special honouree of the 2016 ICMP Ralph Peer II Award for Outstanding Contribution to Global Music Publishing – the unique and prestigious prize in the international music publishing field.

The Award, initiated by ICMP in 2013, and named after its first honouree Ralph Peer II, recognises visionaries in the field of music publishing, whose roles have helped develop, protect and value the music of composers and authors around the world. The ceremony will take place on 4 June during the Midem International Awards.

Advancing music publishing for 50 years

The ICMP Board unanimously nominated Midem to receive this special honourary Award as a result of its 50 years of building a unique deal-making platform that has continually united and promoted all players – both big and small – from across the music ecosystem.

Despite significant changes in the music sector, the annual event remains the place where music publishing executives can literally take a musical trip around the world, refresh existing publishing contacts and create new ones.

The personal interaction with international colleagues is unrivalled and has resulted in a multitude of publishing deals that have benefited music publishers, DJs, producers, artists, songwriters and consumers across the globe.

Crucially, Midem has been a catalyst for monetising copyrights across the world, by providing a forum for sub-publishers to meet and do business.

Up close and personal

“On behalf of ICMP, I would like to congratulate the Midem organisation on winning this Award,” said ICMP Chair Andrew Jenkins.  “Midem’s international focus is what makes it so special. For all of us, Midem is a wonderful opportunity to meet face-to-face with our business partners from around the world, to explore and conclude new business opportunities, and to discuss the pressing industry issues of the day. In this respect Midem is unique, and this sharing of ideas is vital to ICMP as it enables us, as the global voice of music publishing, to react appropriately on behalf of our members,” he added.

“It’s never been more important for the relationships within the music business community to be global. For 50 years, Midem has played a crucial role by creating a space where music publishing leaders can come together from around the world to connect, share ideas and build relationships that advance our community as a whole. The Board of ICMP is proud to honour Midem on its 50th anniversary with this award in recognition of all that it does for music creators,” said Ralph Peer II, Chair and CEO of peermusic and an ICMP Board Member.

“As Midem celebrates its 50th anniversary this award is particularly special. Creating an international market for music publishers was the initial raison-d’être for launching Midem and publishers remain at the heart of the event,” commented Jérôme Delhaye, Director of Reed MIDEM’s Entertainment Division. “As we begin the next 50 years of the Midem adventure we are proud to be launching the first Copyright Summit to address upcoming reforms in the US and Europe, fair remuneration and new business models – all of which are critical to the music publishing community,” concluded Delhaye.

Several thousand music makers, cutting-edge technology experts, brand specialists and talent from 75 countries are expected to attend this year’s event, which is taking place from 3 to 6 June.

About the Award

The ICMP Ralph Peer II Award for Outstanding Contribution to Global Music Publishing was launched in 2013 to honour individuals or partnerships that have made a sustained and outstanding contribution to international music publishing. The inaugural award honouree was Ralph Peer II, CEO of peermusic and founder member of ICMP. Last year, music publishing icon Irwin Z. Robinson collected the Award at a gala dinner held during Midem.

About ICMP

ICMP is the world trade association representing the interests of the music publishing community internationally.  The constituent members of ICMP are music publishers’ associations from Europe, Middle East, North and South America, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Included are the leading independent multinational and international companies, and regional and national music publishers, mainly SMEs, throughout the world. As the voice and point of reference of music publishers, and the community of composers and songwriters they represent, ICMP’s mission is to increase copyright protection internationally, encourage a better environment for business and act as an industry forum for consolidating global positions.  www.icmp-ciem.org

Carron Launch A Heart-wrenching Video For Their Single ‘Marble Arch’

Dublin-based, folk-pop sisters CARRON are set to make their mark this summer with a glowing video for their new single ‘Marble Arch’ off their debut EP ‘Roots’. Testing the waters at festivals such as The Lock-up and Spirit of Folk, along with high-profile slots at Whelan’s Ones To Watch, Abner Brown’s Barbershop, and We-Bloom at the Workman’s Club, CARRON set their sights on making a big mark in 2016 with the launch of their debut EP in a dazzling show at The Grand Social in April of this year.

Each track on ‘Roots’ explores a distinct phase of Méabh and Mella Carron’s life together, from childhood (‘Roots’), through adolescence (‘She’s Fire’) and dealing with sickness (‘Prison Robes’), to envisioning a future free from the mistakes of a generation past (‘Marble Arch’).

Fresh from the launch of ‘Roots’, CARRON are delighted to unveil the music video to their first single, ‘Marble Arch‘, available at the following link.

‘Marble Arch’, tells the story of two young sisters escaping from their morose family setting to a place of tranquillity, beauty and peace. They play in the comfort of one another, but this utopia of theirs is only transitory, and are guises to their trapped reality. ‘We felt this was an important message to illustrate, as there are many families who find themselves in similar circumstances – where children are left silenced by the conditions at home, and do all they can to distance themselves from
it.’

The ‘Marble Arch’ Music Video will be released on CARRON’s Social Media Platforms at 13:00 Friday 6th May 2016. The EP is available to purchase now on iTunes & Bandcamp.

Some words of praise from people who know things about stuff – Jim Carroll: “Simple, unadorned acoustic tunes with a smidgin of folk, a rub of trad and a big dash of pop, there’s enough potential on show from the Carron siblings on “Battle Lines” to mark them as ones to watch.”

The Last Mixed Tape: “Separating themselves from some the twee or overtly commercial pitfalls of the folk-pop sound, Carron’s ethereal textural voices give a depth to the music as a whole and allude to promising paths for the duo to take in future recordings.”

Remy’s Best of Music & Film: “CARRON have put together a collection of four tracks that provide plenty of variety and showcase both their talents and those of their band as musicians, and they’re definitely on the right path with regard toreaching a wider audience based on this evidence.””

Soundcloud Go Launches in UK & Ireland

New subscription service offers expanded catalogue of established and emerging artists to the existing SoundCloud experience, plus new functionality.

Coincides with rollout of advertising on the free-service, with both monetisation streams giving creators the opportunity to be paid.

SoundCloud, the world’s largest music and audio platform with 175 million monthly listeners, announced today the launch of its new consumer subscription service, SoundCloud Go in the UK and Ireland. Following its successful launch in the US last month, the UK and Ireland are the first international markets to offer music fans the SoundCloud Go expanded catalogue of more than 125m tracks with intuitive supporting features, created to complement and enhance the existing SoundCloud experience. The free service listeners love today will remain, and will now be supported by a range of advertising options as part of SoundCloud’s commitment to creators to have the opportunity to be paid for the work that they share.

“We received an incredible response from our community of creators and listeners alike with the launch of SoundCloud Go in the US earlier this year, and we’re excited to expand our offering to our listeners in the UK & Ireland,” said Alexander Ljung, SoundCloud Founder and CEO. “Creators are, and always have been, at the core of everything we do at SoundCloud. And it’s through this monetisation of the platform, which also includes the introduction of ads to the free service, that we will eventually enable them all to be paid for the work they share with the world.”

The SoundCloud Go experience includes:

  • In addition to the breadth of content that listeners are already accustomed to, SoundCloud Go gives access to a significantly expanded catalogue of the greatest established and hottest emerging artists.
  • On the tube or off the grid, offline listening allows you to take your music with you wherever you go.
  • An ad-free, uninterrupted listening experience to more than 125 million tracks from the 12 million creators heard each month on SoundCloud
  • Available now in the UK and Ireland on web, iOS App Store and Google Play, and priced at £9.99 and €9.99 per month respectively, with a free 30-day trial

Additionally from today, SoundCloud’s free service will be supported by audio advertising, in-stream native ads, promoted profiles, creator partnerships, and more. All are designed to fit seamlessly into the SoundCloud experience and to provide brands with a variety of ways to reach a new, highly engaged audience. The introduction of advertising will ensure listeners can continue to experience SoundCloud for free, as well as offer creators the opportunity to be paid for the work that they share. SoundCloud Go subscribers will be able to opt out of these ads, enjoying uninterrupted listening as part of the service.
