King Kong Company Live at Cork Opera House

King Kong Company are back at Cork Opera House, Cork for a late night show on Sunday 24th October – tickets on sale this Friday, September 17 from Cork Opera House Box Office priced at €25 + b/fee . Over 18s – ID required

The Kong Company story so far…. KKC are a band from Waterford, five (now six) blokes, a girl and a Boxhead. In 2011 they started putting out one video a month, put on the first gig in 2012 and played Indiependence on the back of a truck. There was almost the same amount of people at the gig as was in the band. But soon after Body & Soul heard a track and booked them for an early Sunday evening at Electric Picnic where they got lucky and played to, maybe, thousands.

Thinking they had now made it, they tried to get a Dublin gig and, a well-known, but won’t be named, Dublin venue turned them down saying they’d be lucky to get 100 people to it. But the Sugar Club offered them a gig, and it sold out. Then countless sold out gigs at the Cork Opera House, the Button Factory, The Academy and even a sold out gig at The Olympia (yes, just the one, they’re not The Script).

They’ve also stuck 13,000 people in a tent at Electric Picnic for Sunday Mass, had thousands of hedonists lay siege to the Body & Soul arena for their stuffed to the gills lock in that closed the legendary stage. And in between there’s been tracks, an album produced by The Prodigy’s producer Neil McLellan, a Buckfast beer, Glastonbury, a robot, All Together Now, late nights, parties, early mornings, ferries, Prague, London, Newcastle, the engagement proposal, broken down vans, Spraoi, a Best Band in Ireland award and stuff that should never end up in print or online.

Then . . . some sort of pandemic happened, no gigs for twenty months and we all really need to get in a room together, and dance.

Sophie Doyle Ryder Announces New Single ‘Hunni Hunni’

Rising Irish Pop Star Sophie Doyle Ryder is excited to release the first track ‘Hunni Hunni’ from her debut EP this Friday, September 17th. The 19 year old singer-songwriter from Dublin has drawn comparisons to Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Anne Marie.

Sophie’s fun-loving and free personality is expressed in the writing of ‘Hunni Hunni’. Her passion for writing bright, infectious and relatable songs is evident when listening to the fun lyrics in ‘Hunni Hunni’; I just want to live foreva, party til I can’t remember. Sophie describes ‘Hunni Hunni’ as the ultimate party anthem.  “I’m beyond excited for the world to forget their troubles and dance along to ‘Hunni Hunni’! I hope it brings people as much joy as it brought me to sing and write”. Sophie loves artists such as Ariana Grande, Benee, Griff and Dua Lipa. The authenticity of these artists is what inspires Sophie’s performance style and song-writing.  She finds all aspects of music as a form of therapy.

Sophie’s debut EP ‘Beginner’s Luck’  is full of  chart-worthy hits. ‘Beginner’s Luck’ depicts a new chapter in Sophie’s life and ‘Hunni Hunni’ reflects her ability to let go of the seriousness in the world and just live in the moment. She feels that ‘Beginner’s Luck’ really shows who she is an artist and it was written during a crazy time in her life. The debut EP gives a full 360 view on relationship situations for the young artist; You can really feel the rollercoaster of emotions throughout. Dublin Singer-Songwriter Gerr Walsh to Release ‘Strays’

Friday 24th September sees Dublin singer-songwriter Gerr Walsh release ‘Strays’, the lead single from his forthcoming debut album ‘Ghosts of Hope & Magic’. A swirly, slow-burning acoustic rock track with haunting backing vocals from Naimee Coleman, ‘Strays’ is the sound of a rock band driving a dark, murky tale of a song off the edge of a cliff on a stormy night. ‘Strays’ will be available to stream and download everywhere on Friday 24th September.

The album to be released in October features Drummer Adam Marcello (Katy Perry), Bassist Keith Duffy (The Corrs), Keyboardist Max Greenwood (Jerry Fish, Jack L, Tom Baxter), Backing vocalist Naimee Coleman and Gerr Walsh on acoustic and electric guitars.

Patrick Stefan Announces Brand-New Single ‘Anna’

Patrick Stefan (formerly Paj) announces a brand-new single ‘Anna’, due for release across all major platforms from Friday, 17th September 2021.

Stefan was tipped by the likes of Hot Press, Nialler9, District and BBC’s hugely popular Across The Line programme, who all praised him for his ability to blend international music stylings into one unique, globetrotting sound.

The first single Stefan is releasing under his real name was written about his fateful meeting with the Airbnb host, and the track (which heralds the announcement of his forthcoming album, slated for 2022 release) soars with Stefan’s ethereal vocal—simultaneously grounded by deeply pooled percussion.

Despite its polished production, ‘Anna’ achieves a stunning simplicity. Stefan never steps across the line into over-production. A marimba incorporates the global sound Stefan has become known for on the breathless cut, which embraces vulnerability, prioritises emotion, and is capable of clearing out mental cobwebs.

It took an Ayahuasca retreat for the multi-instrumentalist to truly understand what had been missing in his music. Just before the Coronavirus pandemic swept Ireland, Stefan and his wife took a trip to North Brazil, staying at the home of an artist named Anna. Stefan’s takeaway from the enlightening vacation was that he had been trying too hard to cram his music into outdated and unnecessary labels, and was attempting to tap into an of-the-moment sound that—simply put—wasn’t him anymore.

We were Anna’s first guests in the Airbnb”, Stefan explains of the track. “And she was undergoing a renaissance in her own life. She was splitting from her husband, seemingly now living to the fullest. Her wisdom and fearlessness were inspiring. Anna treated us like family, and I wrote the marimba part and drumbeat while in her house.”

It was only fitting to name his first track in this newfound headspace after the woman who helped him to realise his potential and accept himself for who he is

Irish-born, half Dutch singer-songwriter Patrick Stefan would describe himself as a bit of a musical polyglot, having lived and performed in America, Brazil and West Africa, and played with some of Ireland’s leading musicians (including Loah, Fehdah, Uly, and rising R&B star Aby Coulibaly). He even has performance credits alongside Eurovision winner Luisa Sobral, and Irish fiddler Martin Hayes, as part of the award winning band Ensemble Ériu.

After completing his Masters in Global Music & Pedagogy at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Berklee College of Music graduate began releasing the bulk of his solo material under his former moniker, Paj. Stefan’s folk/jazz group, Leafzang, also released their eponymous album in 2011.

Collaborating across jazz, R&B, and world music genres in a sideman role, 2018 marked the debut solo release, where he stepped into centre stage as a singer-songwriter under Paj. But Stefan—the son of a “hippie folk singer from Holland”—always resisted the idea of his music being written off as man-with-guitar folk, incorporating elements from as many cultures as possible.

Eimear Crehan Announces Release of ‘Sleeping’

After years of singing funk and rock, and performing at Electric Picnic, Oxegen, Eimear Crehan went on to release a solo album ’SCARS’ in Nov 2018. Since then she has been touring full-time, supporting and duetting with artists like Jack L, Mary Coughlan and more recently The Coronas. Over lockdown Eimear has taken every opportunity to do online streams and then shows wherever possible. These have included theatre shows to restricted audiences and outdoor gigs such as Strawberry Sessions in Lutteralstown Castle, and this weekend she will play September Sessions in association with Sea Sessions in Bundoran. Eimear was recently recognised by The Riverbank Arts Centre as their choice artist and she won their music bursary for this year. As part of that she will perform a headline show in the Riverbank on October 7th.

‘Sleeping’, out Saturday 18th September, is the second single from her second album, and it is a beautiful and haunting track. Eimear’s voice carries lots of emotion and takes listeners on a journey. Eimear’s vocals have been compared to Adele, Alison Moyet, Cyndi Lauper and Mary Coughlan.

Epic Alternative R&B Soul Debut Single from Helen Murray

Cork-born and Dublin based alternative R&B soul artist, songwriter, producer and vocalist Helen Murray is set to make waves on the 17th September with her debut release ‘Thank You’.

Helen has performed on some of Ireland’s biggest stages including: Vicar Street, Electric Picnic, RTE 2fm, Today FM and The Late Late Show with artist’s such as James Vincent McMorrow, Aimée, Mik Pyro and Somebody’s Child.

Now armed with a catalogue of impressive releases, Helen is ready to step into the Irish music scene and further afield with her first single ‘Thank You’. Inspired by her early days listening to N.E.R.D, Christina Aguilera, No Doubt, and Destiny’s Child, Helen found her unique, bold and progressive sound. Drawing on experiences of past relationships, Helen wrote and produced ‘Thank You’ in her small bedroom in Dublin City on a cold winter’s day in January 2020. Helen wanted to write an anthem about breakups that was empowering and freeing and that didn’t dwell on heartbreak.

Helen explains that “This song explores self-acceptance, self-confidence and gratitude that comes when you remove yourself from a relationship that isn’t good for you anymore. I suppose it’s a twisted love song thanking the person who entered my life because when they left I realised I deserve so much more than what they gave me.”

The final touch of magic was added by talented producer RVSTLESS (Tomike, Melina Malone, Tobi-A), who Helen has been collaborating with since early 2020. Helen also worked alongside producer Adam Shanahan (Nealo, Bobbi Arlo, Shiv) who recorded and edited the vocals for ‘Thank You’. It’s impossible to listen to Helen Murray’s music without hearing the influences of late 90’s early 00’s pop and R&B. Her sound merges neosoul, R&B, and electronic music to create an energetic, honest and enticing experience. The perfect balance of confidence and insecurity.

Helen Murray is to release a series of singles throughout 2021 and 2022. ‘Thank You’ is out on all music platforms on the 17th September 2021.
