John Neville Releases New Single ‘Old Honey Bee’

‘Old Honey Bee’ is the second single from John Neville’s forthcoming album.

A beautiful whimsical Springtime story, it describes the Old Honey Bee’s unrequited love for a flower! Produced by Martin Leahy, John’s song brings us on the Honey Bee’s magical journey helped along by some gorgeous string playing and harmonies like an ode to Planxty that are rooted in John’s love of Irish and American folk music.

John Neville is a singer songwriter from Cork city. He played and recorded with the excellent traditional Irish group North Cregg of which he was a founding member. He released his debut solo album ‘Dance With The Wind’ in 2017 to critical acclaim.  Songs from that album received nationwide airplay including  RTE Radio1 programs such as Lillian Smith’s Rising Time, The John Creedon Show and Niall Toner’s Roots Freeway. One of his songs also featured in a New York Times article by acclaimed writer Jennifer Finney Boylan.

Anna Carmody Releases New Track ‘Loving you, it ain’t easy’

Singer-songwriter Anna Carmody is excited to release her fifth single; Loving you, it ain’t easy. The 28 year old singer from Offaly has been compared to the likes of Lana Del Rey and Amy Winehouse. Recently chosen as 1 of 5 local heroes for Midlands 103 as part of Irish Music Month with Hot Press, her music has been described as beautifully haunting, touching the hearts of many with lyrics inspired by heartbreak, loss, love, adventure and other strong life subjects. She draws inspiration from the people and life moments that struck a chord with her the most.

She has frequently appeared on Midlands 103 and recently played a live set of her last double single release; ‘Hangover’ and ‘Gone Away Dear’.

Anna describes ‘Loving you, it ain’t easy’ as a song she holds close to her heart. “Many people can relate to this song, loving someone isn’t always easy. Sometimes loving someone so much can be bad for you if it’s the wrong person. This song isn’t maybe as soft and loving as it sounds, there’s an underlying sadness hidden in the lyrics that some people will understand”.

Right Chord Music described her music as “Offering up a slice of irresistible indie-pop and always wearing her heart on her sleeve, Anna’s gentle sonic brand is both perfectly charming and endlessly thought-provoking.”

New Music from Dirty Dreamer “Piano 39”

Ambient electronic trio Dirty Dreamer grapple with hard truths and shine a light on everyday beauty with their moving new single ‘Piano 39’, which they share today, Friday, 18th February 2022.

The single comes with the news that Dirty Dreamer, which was formed out of the ashes of the Choice-nominated band Come On Live Long, will release their debut album The Everyday In Bloom on Friday, 8th April 2022.

Guided by a mellow piano line and accompanied by singer Louise Gaffney’s evocatively layered vocals, ‘Piano 39’ bursts into life in its second verse, a gliding guitar line evoking memories of late-night drives and tearful meditation. Lyrically, the track wonders if artists have tendencies to avert their eyes in the face of hard truths. It also draws attention to how much of life’s joy can be missed when you don’t take a moment to look around, which is the overarching theme of their forthcoming album.

Speaking about the new single, singer Louise Gaffney, who also designs all the band’s artwork, says: “‘Piano 39’ was one of those tracks that almost wrote itself. Daithí started quietly humming a gorgeous melody while jamming a middle section. In between chords I managed to hit the mic so it swung around on the stand and just caught it as he was coming up with it. That little passing moment became the hook. The final verse is trying to describe one of those shiny moments of clarity you can have at random when you notice an everyday moment of beauty and you are completely pulled out of yourself.”

Dirty Dreamer was first founded in 2018 after its members, Louise Gaffney, Daithí O’Connor and Ken McCabe had spent the previous number of years playing together as part of the choice-nominated electro-folk outfit Come On Live Long. By combining the use of synths, electric guitar, processed vocals, distorted beats and live drums, Dirty Dreamer blends a common love for all things electronic with live instrumentation to attain a sound that is both raw and melodically crafted.

The band released their debut single ‘Evaporate’ in 2019 – which currently has over half-a-million streams on Spotify. This was quickly followed by a self-titled EP. Recorded in The Meadow studio in Wicklow, the four-track project was born of a free form approach to making music, as songs emerged from months of experimenting with new sounds and blending ambient electronica with more traditional components of classical composition.

The project was followed in 2020 by the first two singles from The Everyday In Bloom –  ‘Air To Breathe’ and ‘Electric Sleep’. After a pandemic-induced hiatus, ‘Piano 39’ is the third single to be released before the band quickly follows it up with an April 8th album release.

Leaning on the band’s more analog tendencies, the album is Dirty Dreamer’s most acoustic creation to date and features the unique aesthetic of its tape-recorded processing.

With these three beautiful singles in the ether, the upcoming album and a headline show in the works (details to follow), Dirty Dreamer have all it takes to become prominent figures in Irish music in 2022 and years to come.

Offica Releases New Single ‘Sharingan’ Ahead of New Mixtape

Amidst his first tour and the busiest time of his life, Ireland’s drill prodigy Offica shares his first release of the new year ‘SHARINGAN’. Taking us on a personal journey of his life and struggles, Offica recaps his come-up on a hard-hitting Naruto-inspired beat produced by KidSpyal. Presented with cool-headed lyricism ‘SHARINGAN’ is jampacked with punchy bars and relatable street quotes you might see on your Instagram timeline. Starring as the “popular loner” the visuals show the rapper out in the streets as a lone wolf alongside a glimpse of his inner circles as he teases what is to come on his highly anticipated mixtape arriving later this year.

Drogheda’s own drill prodigy known as Offica began his musical career in early 2018 and has been an inspiration to other drill rapper around Ireland due to his unique style of rapping. He uses plenty of Irish and Yoruba slang within his lyrics to exhibit his culture and ethnicity. Having made a unique entrance to the scene with his ‘Naruto Drillings’ he has created a name for himself as one the most diverse and creative minded rappers in both Ireland and the UK scene. Known as the Offica in charge of the Irish scene, he isn’t someone to compare with new school rappers, nor is he one to be placed as only a drill artist. Undaunted by the pandemic, Offica has continued his run through 2021, recording further freestyles for Kenny Allstar and Charlie Sloth, and dropping further tracks that draw on his fusion of Japanese culture, Yoruba mythology, Irish energy and UK sonics.

With a further Naruto referencing track Obito going viral once more, and his brand new single Sharingan he’s been getting himself ready for a debut mixtape that will cement his reputation as one of the most exciting artists of a generation.

New Single From Síomha ‘Right From The Start’

‘Right From The Start’ is a soulful pop track which takes the listener on a complete journey of emotions. Beginning in a funky and sultry realm, reminiscent of 70s and 80s soul bands and ending with a lush, dramatic and intimate outro – the music follows the growth of Síomha’s perspective on a story across the 10 years over which the song was written.

“This is an almost classic pop song about a dead-end relationship, but with a twist – the song was written in two halves, each 10 years apart. The contrast between the two shows how our perception of and response to our lived experiences changes over time. As we grow and mature, we soften somewhat and lose our defensiveness, allowing ourselves to be more vulnerable and intimate as we see things in a different light.” -Síomha

The track is taken from her forthcoming debut album ‘Infinite Space’ which is released on 22nd April. The album was recorded in the US and produced by Grammy nominated Tyler Duncan and involves a host of world-renowned musicians from Vulfpek, Snarky Puppy, The Olllam, Bella Fleck etc

New Album From And So I Watch You From Afar ‘Jettison’

Today, legendary Belfast, Ireland based instrumental outfit And So I Watch You From Afar has shared their ambitious new multimedia album Jettison. Through 40 minutes of sonic exploration spread across nine distinct parts and a visual accompaniment by artist Sam Wiehl, Jettison traverses the various shades of ASIWYFA’s euphoric instrumental output. The Arco String Quartet adds moments of ethereal elegance, juxtaposed against cryptic dialogue by Emma Ruth Rundle and Neil Fallon throughout the album

On the scope of the album, the band had this to say:

“Nothing in our repertoire comes close to the ambition of this latest project—the multimedia piece Jettison. The album is a memorable experience that transports the listener away from the tumultuous times and into a blissful musical utopia.”

Over the last 16 years, Northern Ireland’s instrumental rock quartet And So I Watch You From Afar has defied the layman’s definition of post-rock by absorbing new ideas and pushing the boundaries of their intricate and ecstatic guitar-based compositions. Crashing out of the gate with the big-riff worship and arena-level melodic heroics of their eponymous debut, ASIWYFA have continuously introduced new spins on their original sound while simultaneously expanding their sonic palette with every new album, taking in and repurposing everything from African highlife to Irish trad to the weirdo math-rock of the late ‘90s / early ‘00s. But nothing in their repertoire comes close to the ambition and scale of their latest project—the multimedia piece Jettison. Conceived by And So I Watch You From Afar’s guitarist Rory Friers and brought to life by the band, orchestrator Connor O’Boyle, the Arco String Quartet, and visual artist Sam Wiehl, Jettison is a fusion of ASIWYFA’s life-affirming musical acrobatics, the sweeping grandeur of film scores, and the surreal and sublime capabilities of moving pictures.

The initial motivation behind Jettison was simple. “Making a longer piece of music was something I’d wanted to do for a long time,” Friers says. “I always liked albums and pieces of music that gave you a bigger space to get lost in.” He and his bandmate, guitarist Niall Kennedy, had recently composed the score for The Cured (2017), which whetted their appetite for orchestrating string parts and working on a scale that involved recurring melodic themes and long-arc musical developments. “I loved the idea of reverse engineering a score, flipping it on its head, and having Sam create the visual narrative to the music,” Friers says of his initial vision. As he set to work in early 2018, Friers hoped this ambitious new project would ultimately serve as a counterweight to the tense social climate—a way to “jettison” the anger and strife of the times. It also proved to be a malleable piece, one that evolved and reacted to both personal developments and global events, first with the loss of a dear friend of the band shortly before Jettison’s live debut and again after subsequent performances were canceled due to the onset of the pandemic in early 2020. Though it was always intended to serve as a life-affirming work full of rapturous energy, these tragedies and hardships brought occasional dashes of melancholy to Jettison, bringing the overall sense of triumph and wonder into greater relief.

The Jettison stage is set with the peaceful opening piano chords and orchestral stirrings of “Dive Pt1” before the lift-off commences on “Dive Pt2,” where Friers and Kennedy are joined by their compatriots Chris Wee on drums and Johnny Adger on bass. From there, the 40-minute, nine-part journey of Jettison traverses the various shades of ASIWYFA’s euphoric instrumentals imbued by the ethereal elegance of the Arco String Quartet. Brief snippets of cryptic dialogue by Emma Ruth Rundle and Neil Fallon are sprinkled throughout the album, nudging the listener along the path like guideposts, hinting at a larger storyline and further coloring the experience while still allowing an overall sense of mystery to surround the composition. Whether it’s the staccato guitars and pedalboard manipulations of “Lung,” the dubby bass and sparse folk melodies of “In Air,” the anthemic spirit of “Emerge,” or the perfect symbiosis of classic ASIWYFA electric jubilance and the Arco String Quartet’s delicate grace, the various chapters of Jettison retain the spirit and timbre of ASIWYFA while expanding the possibilities of their sound and hyper-saturating the senses through supplementary instrumentation.

Jettison is by no means a normal ASIWYFA album. Rather, it is a very deliberate departure as opposed to an evolutionary step to increasingly ambitious, complex, and conceptual work. The full Jettison experience, replete with Wiehl’s visuals and the string accompaniments, will only happen occasionally, such as the full-house October 2021 performance at The Queen Elizabeth Hall at London’s Southbank Centre. Yet even in the album format, Jettison is a special experience, one that transports the listener away from the tumultuous times and into a blissful musical utopia. Equal Vision Records is proud to present this document of the aural component of Jettison to the world on CD, LP, and digital platforms on February 18, 2022.

Niamh Regan is a critically acclaimed songwriter from county Galway. Released in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, her debut album Hemet announced her arrival as one of the most distinctive songwriters in Ireland today. Earning nominations for both the RTE Folk Awards’ and the Choice Awards’ Album of the Year, the album received soaring praise, and led to performances on Fanning at Whelan’s, The Late Late Show, Other Voices, and La Blogothèque.

Following on from an enchanting sold-out show at Whelan’s last November, Niamh will celebrate the launch of her new EP ‘In the Meantime’, Friday 4th March, at The Grand Social, Dublin. The incredible fellow Galwegian, Seba Safe, will warm the stage, and Niamh will be joined by some very special surprise guests for her set.

New Single From Pink Rabbits ‘Home’

Pink Rabbits – the project of songwriter Paul Walsh – will release a new single, ‘Home’ on February 25th.

It’s the third single to be released by the Galway native this year, following his debut single, ‘It’s Over’ in April 2021 and ‘This Is What We Came For’ in June.

The song was written during lockdown. “I bought a portable keyboard during lockdown last year and this was the first song I wrote on it. The melody/chorus was something that I had already created on guitar, but it sounded better on piano. The lyrics fell into place pretty quickly. After bringing it to my producer Ciaran Parnell, we added more instruments,” said Paul Walsh.

Walsh says the solemnness of lockdown had a bearing on the lyrics. “I think it did have an effect. Lockdown was a weird time for most of us. The primal need for us all is to be safe I think and this song captures that emotion. In these times, ‘Home’ can be a place of safety, or as the song suggests, ‘Home’ can be anywhere or anyone you feel safe with.”

The song is from his debut album, which will be released in Summer 2022. “I decided to add one or two newer songs to the track list, so work is ongoing on those tracks.” said Paul.

Paul is also known as a popular sports broadcaster on Virgin TV, presenting the sports news on the daily news bulletins.

‘Home’ will be available to stream on Spotify, iTunes and other streaming platforms. The song will also be available to buy as a download on Bandcamp.
