Eoin Glackin Returns with a Brand-New Single ‘El Dorado’

Dublin born singer-songwriter Eoin Glackin returns with a brand-new single ‘El Dorado’, due for release Friday, 27th November 2020.

The new single builds on the momentum of ‘Before The Rain’, Glackin’s recent release which garnered major radio support across Ireland and the UK such as Today FM, Spin 103.8, 98FM as well as TalkRadio and BBC.

The story of friendship in the face of the greatest adversity, something which may resonate today more than ever, has echoes of some of Glackin’s folk heroes like Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle and Christy Moore.

The genesis for El Dorado, a story of unbreakable friendship, is best explained by the writer himself:

I was hanging out with a friend the evening after I wrote it. We were passing a guitar back and forth, so I played it for him. He looked at me when I was finished and asked, ‘Is that about me?’ I just replied, ‘Now you mention it, I think it is!

When we were about 10, he became very sick. He had a rough time but thankfully came out on the other end. I wasn’t sure where this story came from in my head, but now I do. This story of unbreakable friendship is for him.”

Eoin Glackin is a Dublin born singer-songwriter, with three acclaimed albums under his belt.  A relentless tourer, he has shared the road with legendary acts like The Darkness, Joan Armatrading and most recently, Irish icons, Aslan. While Glackin is known for his eclectic songwriting, his work has always been steeped in the folk tradition of passing on stories and ideas through the medium of song.

‘El Dorado’ is no different.

Glackin is working on a new album due for release next spring.

New Single from October Fires

After a successful social media video launch over the Halloween weekend, October Fires bring you their latest single ‘In The Gloom’, due for digital release later this month. Song created by October Fires. Produced and mixed by James Darkin. Mastered by Pete Maher.

Scattered Ashes Announce Debut Release ‘Love Is Not An Option’

Dublin-based Scattered Ashes are set to release their debut single ‘Love Is Not An Option’ on the 20th November. A bold opening statement from the band, the track is a dive into the sinister aspects of an ailing relationship. The substance of which is a tandem between the prophetic vocals of frontman Robert Dalton, and the urgent guitar stylings of Ben Downes. The abrasive four-piece range in influence from Brutalism to Punk, matching aggressive sonic textures with a strict sense of space.

You can hear our influences, but the product is entirely our own. Taking cues from the likes of Bauhaus, Gang of Four, Sisters of Mercy & Joy Division we sit in a darker lane than most of our contemporaries, taking post-punk back to its murkier roots.

‘Love Is Not An Option’ was recorded at Darklands, in Dublin with Dan Doherty, mastered by Pete Maher.

Minister Martin announces recipients of funding under Live Performance Support Scheme

Catherine Martin TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, has announced recipients of the €5 million in funding to assist commercial venues, producers and promoters to plan live performances across the country over the coming months, with a total of 58 organisations benefitting from the scheme.

The main objective of this pilot scheme is to provide employment opportunities to artists in this uncertain time and allow commercial organisers of live performances to commence preparations immediately and productions to go ahead with either a live audience or to share content through streaming.

Recipients of this funding allocation range from small to large venues, producers and promoters and grants range from €10,000 to €400,000.

The funds will support a variety of live events planned including concerts, pantomimes, theatre productions, festivals, outdoor performances and comedy events.

The exceptional demand for this pilot scheme contributed to Minister Martin’s decision to ensure a much larger package would be available to assist commercial venues, producers and promoters next year as part of Budget 2021 funding.

Minister Martin said: “I am very conscious of the unprecedented nature of the challenge facing the live performance sector, not least from a financial point of view and accordingly I’m very pleased to announce this funding allocation which I’m sure will greatly assist in the employment of performers, artists, technicians, creative and performance support staff across the sector.

“I was also delighted to recently announce €50 million in support for the sector in Budget 2021 – which will encompass a range of supports for live entertainment events to take place in venues next year across the country, and other measures to support music, and a new grant scheme for equipment.

“This scheme, designed after consultation with the sector, helps to de-risk the costs of running productions that may be postponed, cancelled or curtailed due to restrictions to safeguard public health. The live events sector was one of the first to close and I want to ensure that it will be supported and there once again for musicians, artists and performers.”

Captivating New Electro-Folk Jackie Beverly Single – ‘Sea Glass’

Jackie Beverly adds yet another stunning electro-folk single to her collection, with the intimate and low-fi ‘Sea Glass’ – out now.

Jackie Beverly has been paving the way for the electro-folk genre here in Ireland, and is an artist that is on the rise. Having received support from the likes of The Irish Times, Nialler9, 98fm, GoldenPlec,

The Thin Air and more, she has spent the last two years focusing on releasing a string of stellar singles, plus more recently announcing some live shows – all three headline shows which have sold out in record time.

Her recent electrifying appearance at industry showcase festival Ireland Music Week this October 2020 is just a small insight into what her live shows will be like, once the live industry returns.

Noted as a ‘one of the most exciting new talents in Ireland’ (GoldenPlec) and named one of “10 Irish Rock and Pop acts to watch in 2020” in The Irish Times (Tony Clayton-Lea),

Jackie Beverly has been steadily carving a space for herself in the Irish music scene, sparking people’s attention with her refreshing electro-infused writing, and refined vocal.

Taking inspiration from Låpsley and London Grammar, the results are “moody, unpretentious, captivating and a little bit special.”

‘Sea Glass’ is Beverly’s fifth single release to date, and one that explores more of her folk roots, while keeping the magic of that low-fi electro sound she is known for.

Written in 2018, this single was one of the first tracks that was written under the moniker of Jackie Beverly, so it’s about time it got the chance to see the light of day.

“Written about a close friend who was struggling in life, it’s a song that explores finding beauty in the mundane, and focusing on the little things in life that can bring so much happiness. ”  Jackie Beverly 2020

New to Beverly’s soundscape are the use of strings, namely cello, which amplifies the folk feel that Beverly was striving to marry with her electro vibes.

Produced by the amazing Darragh Nolan of Asta Kalapa studios, this is the third single they’ve produced together to date.

Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Ultan O’Brien Release New Video ‘All Our Lonely Ghosts’

Dublin-based with Clare and Connemara connections, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Ultan O’Brien have been playing together for many years in bands, ahead of the release of their new duo project this Thursday, ‘Solas An Lae’, they share a harrowing song from the album:

‘All Our Lonely Ghosts’ is a dark song. It charts the treatment of women, children and those who have been silenced in Irish society over the decades. Where Catholic Ireland locked people in Church-run institutions in days gone by, modern-day neoliberal Ireland puts them in family hubs, direct provision centres, or leaves them to roam the streets of our cities and towns.

“In recent weeks, we have seen those in power redouble their efforts to bury a shameful past – a past that could rock the foundations of the current status quo if it is unearthed in its entirety.

While the song is bleak, we see hope – in the courage of the survivors who are campaigning for justice and in the movements that are fighting for a better world.” – Eoghan & Ultan.

‘All Our Lonely Ghosts’ was recorded and produced by Nick Turner of Watercolour Music, the video is by Ruth Clinto. Lyrics written by Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin – Music & Ciarán O’Rourke, and the track was arranged by Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin & Ultan O’Brien.

The human voice and the fiddle are often thought of as musical cousins. ‘Solas an Lae’ (The Light of the Day), Eoghan and Ultan’s debut offering, will be a compelling exploration of that relationship, creating a unique dialogue that blends raw, rugged earth with the ethereal otherworld. It is due for release Thursday 5th November, via the Scottish label Watercolour Music.

In ‘Solas an Lae’, bouncing songs and strings off one another, Eoghan and Ultan have created a duo album that emerges viscerally from the sean-nós roots of upbringing to blossom into two of the most articulate Irish musical voices on the scene today.

‘Solas an Lae’ (The Light of the Day) is the debut album from Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Ultan O’Brien due for release on November 5th 2020,  via Watercolour Music. Pre-order the digital album or vinyl on Bandcamp: https://eoghanultan.bandcamp.com/releases

Jamin O’Donovan to Release First Solo Single

Jamin O’Donovan’s indie, alt-pop sound is music for contemplation. A response to the superficiality of modern life, Jamin offers hope to the listener, inviting them to momentarily transcend the daily monotony. Jamin’s path as a musician was forged after attending a Bruce Springsteen concert at the age of 5. His music-loving father, whose own father was a trumpet player, showered all his children equally with his passion for music but it was only Jamin who took up the mantle.

Deciding at age 5 that he would either aspire to be like Bruce Springsteen or Bruce Lee, he first opted to follow in the footsteps of the martial arts master. He became a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, before picking up a guitar at age 14 and conquering all his favourite musical heroes’ songs, under the guiding influence of his guitarist father. He had to master all the Steely Dan guitar solos before he was allowed to play ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. He then bought a bass, a 4-track tape recorder and a drum machine, beginning on his journey to writing and recording music.

Jamin spent 10 years playing, writing and producing music in Irish indie pop group FRED, touring extensively on both sides of the Atlantic. The five-piece band released four albums enjoying great success in Ireland, America and Canada with highlights including the band’s song ‘Damn You Hollywood’ used in an episode of the US TV series Gossip Girl as well as being awarded iTunes Canada’s Single of the week for ‘Skyscrapers’ in 2008. Fred performed at festivals such as Oxegen, Electric Picnic and Hard Working Class Heroes and worked with notable producers including Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire) at his studio Hotel2tango.

Jamin left the band to focus on spiritual empowerment programs for youth, where he worked to uplift young people out of their surroundings and contribute to a society in a meaningful way, where superficial divisions such as race, religion and class disappear into the ether. It is this same sense of purpose, this optimism for a better life for all that called Jamin back to music and compelled him to create again. Now, living in North London, Jamin has created an album that will encourage the listener to feel contemplative, soaring above the superficiality of modern pop-culture.

Jamin releases his first solo single ‘Shores’ on 6th November.
