August 23, 2024

Organisers of the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival have announced a second date to celebrate the legendary jazz musician Alice Coltrane after selling out the first show.

Newly added show – Thursday 24th October 2024 doors 8pm, Triskel Arts Centre.

2024 is a special year of celebration dedicated to the enduring legacy of Alice Coltrane. A special collaboration – Celebrating Alice Coltrane – Alina Bzhezhinska & HipHarp Collective featuring Brian Jackson – will feature internationally acclaimed harpist Alina Bzhezhinska, distinguished composer, musician and legendary Gil Scott-Heron collaborator Brian Jackson, and celebrated saxophonist Tony Kofi – all esteemed artists affiliated with BBE Music. Together, they will present a unique and captivating performance at this year’s Guinness Cork Jazz Festival at the sold-out show on Friday 25th October and the newly added date of Thursday 24th October in Triskel Arts Centre.

All of the artists involved have profound admiration for the work of Alice Coltrane and will bring their unique tribute performances to the celebration. They have diligently curated a program that will showcase Alice’s most revered compositions, such as “Journey in Satchidananda”, “Shiva Loka” and “Ptah The El Daoud”, alongside their own original compositions, which bear the imprint of Coltrane’s universal vision.

For this momentous occasion, they will be joined by a stellar ensemble, featuring Alina on harp and electronics, Brian on keyboard and flute, Tony on saxophone, supported by the rhythmic mastery of Mikele Montolli on bass and Joel Prime on drums/percussion.
