PIER releases debut single ahead of performing at The Great Escape festival

May 3, 2023

‘Hollow’ is a cathartic release that explores themes of loss, vulnerability, and internal fracture. Weaving together haunting vocals, atmospheric guitar work and ethereal strings, t he track carries a unique and fresh sound, while also paying homage to the 90’s Dream-Pop / Alt-rock scene.

“The song reflects on the aftermath of investing too much into something that was never meant to be meaningful, such as a one-night stand. More than a cliche unrequited love story, I rather think of it as a broader reflection of the human experience. As someone who has been living abroad for a while, I think I was just drawing from my own experiences to express that internal fracture that many people like me face at some point in their journey.” – Pier

The song was recorded in Dublin’s Sonic Studio by Ber Quinn ( Lisa Hannigan / John Grant / James Vincent McMorrow / The Divine Comedy etc.) and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty of Nomograph Mastering ( Lana Del Rey / Rufus Wainwright / Soccer Mommy etc.) in LA.

It features Jacopo Stofler and Sara Barberio ( Elaphi ) on guitars, Kian Johnston ( Slightly Dishevelled ) on drums, and Dara Abdurahman ( Bricknasty ) on bass.

The artwork was created by visual artist Iiro Kivistö and pays homage to the piece ‘Varjo Kasvoilla’ by finnish sculptor Wäinö Aaltonen. You can catch Pier live at his next shows:
