‘Don’t Try Hard’ is an upbeat indie/pop earworm, in which O Meara delicately, yet cleverly shines the light over people who both ‘Try Too Hard’ in life, and those that are labelled as ‘Trying Too Hard’ when an effort is made.
O Meara wrote this song last year when a best friend was blanked by the love of their life, and Pauric in his humour, brought up that maybe they were trying too hard, which sparked the debate, “What are people really looking for? How do we find the balance? Between trying ‘too hard’ and not at all? Why does it seem like the people who care less get more?”
This universal feeling is brought to life through clever lyrics and imagery creation, and is heightened by the high energy, indie/funk twist where smacking snares and fluid guitar and bass melodies bring the reality of the theme to life.
