New Music from Fia Moon ‘By Now’

January 14, 2022

Irish pop star Fia Moon will release her new single on Friday, 14th January 2022 and it shows an intimate side of her that we’ve rarely seen.

‘By Now ’is a sparkling pop ballad that perfectly soundtracks the season.

Co-written with acclaimed fellow Irish singer-songwriter DAY_S, Fia sings of the universally felt pain of watching lost lovers move on.

Fia explains that the song is a deeply personal one to her:“The inspiration for ‘By Now’ came from some deep-rooted feelings that I thought I had already processed. When a relationship ends, you can lose touch with the other person, so when you discover they’ve moved on to a new relationship it can come as a surprise – and it can sting! This song was about me figuring out some of those feelings.”

Following on from the alt-pop vibe of Fia’s recent tunes, the production of ‘By Now’ is raw, organic and natural, with minimal, piano-led instrumentation allowing Fia’s vocal and deeply personal lyrics to take the spotlight.

The song, which invites comparisons vocally to Ariana Grande and sonically to Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, was produced by Philip Magee (Kodaline, The Script, Gavin James), rounding off the all-Irish team on this song – a first for Fia, and a fact that she’s very proud of.

“One of the silver linings of being back in Ireland over lockdown was getting to collaborate with other Irish creatives,” says  Fia.  “Funnily enough, ‘By Now’ is the first song I have ever written with another Irish person and I’m so glad it was with DAY_S. This song is so raw and personal to me and there are few people out there who I can be this vulnerable with – he gave me such a safe space to create. I wanted to keep the production super-minimal with the focus on the vocals as they are mostly from the original demo, which was recorded in one take. Philip Magee is such a renowned name in the Irish music industry and I’m so glad we got to work together on this; he is a complete joy to work with and always makes me feel at ease.”

Fia Moon has amassed over 32 million impressions on Irish radio in the short time she has been releasing music. In 2020, she ascended to become the 4th most played independent female on Irish radio, only behind the Irish Women In Harmony collective (of which Fia is a member), R’n’B singer Soulé and hip-hop star Denise Chaila. On Spotify, Fia has reached over 1.5 million streams and has graced the covers of editorial playlists such as ‘New Pop UK’ and ‘A Breath of Fresh Éire’.

Fia has performed extensively on television in Ireland, including on The Late Late Show, with Irish Women in Harmony, and on Songs from an Empty Room, alongside Gavin James and Denise Chaila. Clash Magazine said that “Irish songwriter Fia Moon is telling a unique story.”; tastemaker Nialler9 wrote that “Fia is carving a niche for herself as a promising new artist, and is certainly bringing something new and diverse to the Irish music scene.”; Record of the Day said, “Irish artist Fia Moon offers a glimpse of positivity in this gorgeous slice of atmospheric pop.”

Having established herself over the course of the pandemic as one of Ireland’s most vital independent pop artists, her ambition to perform as widely and as often as possible can now, in 2022, hopefully be realised.
