Building off the success of the darkly witty single ‘Reality’ released earlier this year, Dublin’s Local Boy returns with the optimistic summer anthem ‘Milkshake Pilltaste’. The track is a bouncy blend of anthemic hooks, Irish-hip hop verses and smooth bedroom pop guitars as the Dublin artist waxes lyrical about the power of the summer sun to pull us through our darkest times.
Characteristically of Local Boy, the track is an idiosyncratic mix of his varied influences – funk drums underpin bedroom pop guitar chords as Local Boy shifts between his theatrically soulful vocals on the chorus and his Irish hip-hop indebted percussive flow on the verse. In the song’s pre-chorus, Local Boy name checks a local influence he’s particularly fond of, former Republic of Loose front man Mik Pyro.
“This track is the start of an exciting period of projects and releases for me, so I wanted to kick things off on a fun and optimistic note,” says Local Boy.
“The themes get heavier on a lot of my new music so I wanted to remind myself that sometimes getting out in the sun and breathing fresh air can be so important for giving us a fresh perspective when times are hard.”
“I’m very proud of the instrumentation on this one, I can be a real loner when it comes to production, so I played every instrument on this one and I think it’s the best bassline I’ve ever written, I can’t wait to perform it live over the next few months.”
Local Boy has also announced album release tour dates coming up in a few weeks.
‘An Evening with LOCAL BOY + some special guests’ will be coming to Áras na nGael, Galway, August 25th; The Record Room, Limerick, August 26th; and Workman’s Cellar, Dublin, September 22nd. Tickets go on sale soon, follow Local Boy on socials for details.
