January 25, 2023

Joy Booth is a singer-songwriter from Navan, Co. Meath. No stranger to some of Ireland’s best venues and festivals, she has opened shows for many musical luminaries, including Wallis Bird, Cathy Davey, Pilgrim St, Declan O’Rourke, Mary Coughlan and The Lost Brothers. Joy has collaborated with an eclectic mix of artists over the years, performing and recording as a band member with the likes of Saramai & The Swords, Eugene Donegan and The Handsome Boatmen. She is also currently a proud member of ‘If’ (a 7-piece ska/reggae/funk-influenced band). Her own brand of music is a folk/blues/country blend explores the playful and the very personal through captive melodic turns and disarmingly honest lyrics.

‘All You Were’ is the debut album from singer/songwriter, Joy Booth. It is the culmination of Joy’s solo songwriting career to date. The album’s sound is a mixture of folk, blues and country, with a distinct underlying Irish feel throughout. It was recorded at Crookedwood Studios in Slane, Co. Meath with acclaimed producer and pianist, Mark Cahill (of The Ivory Sessions).

The record features 11 original tracks and 18 of Meath’s finest musicians, with a core band of Joy Booth on acoustic guitar and vocals, Baz Fitzgerald on drums, Toby Cregan on lead guitar, Alun Smyth on harmonica, Franny McGinn on bass, Mark Cahill on keys and guest performances from members of Pilgrim St, Perlee, Bowery Boy and If.

The first single “Trinkets & Tinsel” (recorded with Pilgrim St) was released in December 2020, accompanied by a music video directed by A.P. Martin Films in Navan’s oldest pub, Bermingham’s. 2022 saw the release of a video for the bluesy album opener “Beeline”. The video was directed by Aidan Farrelly of Bad Apple Films at Crookedwood Studios, where the album was recorded. Both videos are available on YouTube – @joymbooth.

‘All You Were’ is available now on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music and most digital music platforms. The art was created by David Quail and assembled by Anthony Mackey.
