IMRO Awards Presented to Gavin James

December 15, 2022

We were delighted to be joined by Gavin James this morning for the presentation of 2 IMRO Awards in recognition of his chart-topping releases, 2020 EP ‘Boxes’, and his recent album ‘The Sweetest Part’, released in July.

The IMRO Number 1 Award was introduced to acknowledge IMRO members who reach number 1 in the album charts here in Ireland.

Exploring the highs and lows of love and relationships, Gavin James wrote and produced the full length album ‘The Sweetest Part’ with some of pop music’s most highly regarded players including Ivor Novello-nominated songwriter Mark Ralph (Years & Years, Clean Bandit, Jax Jones), Fiona Bevan who co-wrote One Direction’s number 1 hit ‘Little Things’ with Ed Sheeran, Patrick Pyke Salmy and multi-Platinum awarded Richard Muñoz (Zoe Wees), Ollie Green (Freya Ridings, Lewis Capaldi) and Jimbo Barry (The Script). With this, it’s clear the new album has all the credentials to match Gavin’s previous success, which has earned himself arena level notoriety.

The title track was written and produced by Gavin and Kodaline guitarist Mark Prendergast, the deeply quaint new number “The Sweetest Part” possesses a lullaby-like quality, as it rhythmically bobs along with James’ vocals swelling and ebbing throughout the track.

The six-track EP Boxes was released in October 2020.  The song ‘I Miss You’ was dedicated to Gavin’s late uncle Paddy, who passed away that year from COVID-19.  The title track ‘Boxes’ quickly exceeded 10 million streams, but just as importantly its lyrics “We don’t fit into your boxes / We’re all different underneath” connected with people all over the world. It subsequently went viral, with over 20,000 videos at TikTok showing people expressing their individuality via #WeAreDifferent.

You can catch Gavin live at The Royal Theatre, Castlebar (29th December) and the New Years Eve Festival, Dublin (31st December).

The Sweetest Part and Boxes are out now on Warner Music Ireland
