The song also features a unique element – the voice of Flynn’s son, Calen, adding a poignant layer to the narrative. “From the moment Calen came into the world, I knew I wanted to create something that lives forever with his toddler voice on it,” shares Flynn Johnson. “Something we could look back on in years to come and laugh at or dance to; my version of an old bound photo album or camcorder videos.”
Far from the clichés of softened perspectives often associated with parenthood, Flynn uses this unique collaboration to sharpen his lyrical teeth, proving that becoming a father has only intensified his hunger for the crown in the competitive world of Hip-Hop. Flynn adds, “I wrote this from a perspective of protecting Calen with my words. My art has kept me safe for as long as I can remember and I’ve always felt like if I can offer my child anything, it’s the knowledge I’ve picked up along the way.”
Produced by seasoned music veteran and Flynn’s long-time collaborator, ROC (formerly Bitter Rocc), the beat features snappy drums, a warbling 808 bassline, and a soulful vocal sample.
