Caoilin Sherlock shares ‘Teenage Jesus’ the title track from his new album

April 13, 2023

To herald the announcement of his debut solo album, Caoilian Sherlock releases his ‘Teenage Jesus’ single, the title track from the album.

Caoilian Sherlock is a talented songwriter who combines elements of psychedelic indie rock with impactful and insightful pop music. With over a decade of experience playing music and writing songs he has honed his craft through his involvement in various bands such as The Shaker Hymn and The Tan Jackets. Following an array of playful and infectious singles and a four track EP ‘Big Child’, Sherlock releases his debut solo album ‘Teenage Jesus’ on Friday 26th May with an Irish and UK tour taking place throughout the summer.

Having worked as a potato picker, a Santa Claus, a temp at an ill-fated music store, an obscenely quiet busker, a barman, a sexual health teacher. He has sold vases and scarves at flea markets and played the part of a “moving picture” at a Harry Potter themed wedding, he has worked many jobs which have in one way or another, encouraged a lot of introspection.

Playing guitar and writing songs since the age of fifteen, well worn through years in rock and roll bands he began playing solo shows that reflect a folkier and sparser terrain. Backed with an electric guitar, a sense of entitlement and an overly sentimental view of almost everything – his music reflects a part of his record collection that hosts Paul Simon, John Prine and more recent luminaries like Bill Ryder Jones and Angel Olsen.

In 2017, he released his debut EP “The Faraway” under the moniker Saint Caoilian, following a successful year of support shows with artists such as Roy Harper, Ryley Walker, and Sean O’Hagan, as well as a tour throughout Ireland with Joan Shelley and Nathan Salsburg. During this time, he also performed at several music festivals, including Body & Soul, Another Love Story, Sounds From A Safe Harbour, Quiet Lights, and It Takes A Village.

Throughout his journey, Caoilian’s sound evolved from a pure folk style to a more experimental approach, as he recorded numerous demos in the various homes he lived in while residing in Cork City. In 2019, he assembled a live band called The Big Children and began recording his first full length solo output, while taking a little break due to the old Covid situation. Having finally found a sound that he was comfortable with, he released several singles recorded with Brendan Fennessy of O Emperor fame. The songs, “Shades Of You,” “Sucker For Love,” and “Don’t Let Me Forget About Her,” are charming lo-fi pop tracks with catchy choruses that balance carefree nonchalance with poignant introspection.
