International touring often raises a complex range of challenges for artists, now more than ever in a post-Brexit and Covid-19 world.

Moderated by radio’s Paul McLoone, this live and in-person discussion will help explore and demystify the process with advice from a broad range of voices working in the sector:

Ciaran WalshCulture Ireland

Culture Ireland creates and supports opportunities for Irish artists and companies to present their work at international festivals, venues, showcases and arts markets including the Edinburgh Festivals, Celtic Connections (Glasgow), the Venice Art and Architecture Biennales, WOMEX World Music Expo, South by Southwest and The Great Escape (in partnership with First Music Contact), Frankfurt Book Fair (in partnership with Literature Ireland), and jazzahead!

Culture Ireland runs a regular funding scheme to support the international presentation of work by Irish artists and companies. Support is provided for both in-person and digital presentations. Applications are accepted from both participating artists and from international presenters.

Culture Ireland also operates a scheme to support the inward travel to Ireland of international presenters, curators and promoters to see new Irish work available for touring. Full details of Culture Ireland’s grant schemes are available at: www.cultureireland.ie

Mick RoeFaction Records

Michael Roe, whose career in music commenced as the drummer in the acclaimed Dublin rock band Adebisi Shank formed The Richter Collective with Barry Lennon in 2008. The label helped spotlight Ireland’s then largely unheralded underground noise / post-rock and math rock scene. The band would eventually release three albums, one of which was shortlisted for the Choice Music Prize.

In 2012 he joined the highly regarded American label / management company Sargent House to become Head of European Operations. During this time Michael worked across acclaimed albums from Deafheaven, Chelsea Wolfe, Russian Circles and more. His appointment ensured that the label could maintain a home in Dublin rather than locating in London, and helped to develop several emerging Irish bands. His focus on domestic talent had also informed his own company MKR Management, working with The Cast Of Cheers and more in tandem with Sargent House.

In early 2017 Michael joined Faction to head up the record label operations of the company. Faction currently works with James Vincent McMorrow, Sorcha Richardson, Martin Hayes, Jape, All Tvvins and more. While at Sargent House, and later Faction, Roe was invited to become a Music Business Tutor at BIMM, Dublin and later head of Music Business before finishing with the college in 2020.
