Although official events begin on Thursday morning with registration for the classes, traditionally people gather at The Mills Inn, Baile Bhuirne on Wednesday night to greet old and new friends and play a few tunes.

Hailing from Lavey in Co. Cavan, Séamus started learning the tin whistle at the age of eight, taught by Caitriona Cullivan, and progressed to the flute at age eleven under the tutelage of Karen Walsh and Pat Tierney, both from Lavey also. He is strongly influenced by flute players such as Harry Bradley, Matt Molloy, Dave Sheridan and James McGovern. He won the senior flute title at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Ennis in 2016 and has won 12-15 and 15-18 All-Ireland titles on both flute and tin whistle, along with many other medals at provincial and All-Ireland levels. In addition to traditional music honours, he has received a Royal Irish Academy high achiever’s award for classical piano and the Peadar Cillín medal for the highest mark in Leaving Certificate Music 2013. He has toured Ireland, Britain and Canada with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann as part of Macalla na hÉireann, and performed with the Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra of Ireland for the ‘Legacy’ suite under the direction of Tom Doorley. He is currently studying for a Masters in Financial Mathematics at Dublin City University.
