Fiach Moriarty: The Revolution

Dublin singer 11114282_808177045926117_8405247865867285390_oFiach Moriarty returns with his second album “The Revolution” which was released April 17th 2015. Lauded by the likes of Chris White of The Zombies “I was rendered speechless by his voice and songwriting. There was nothing I could say to this artist. Lyrically and musically he is one of the best singer/songwriters around.” Paul Brady has said: “Fiach Moriarty is one of Ireland’s most talented singer-songwriters with a musical sophistication rare in the genre”. The time is now for the revolution to begin and Fiach Moriarty to claim his place as one of Ireland’s most impressive singers and songwriters.

Fiach’s second album, ‘The Revolution’ was heavily influenced by his childhood memories of taking to the streets of Dublin to march for various causes in the 80’s together with his family. The result is an album that tackles subjects such as The 1916 Easter Rising, World War 1 and Los San Patricios (the Irish brigade in the 19th century Mexican Army) yet is filled with a wide breadth of catchy hooks, clever lyrics and beautifully crafted songs.

Since the release of his debut record “So I”, Fiach Moriarty has toured through countless venues in his home country of Ireland, as well as Europe, Australia and North America. This heavy duty work ethic has paid off, garnering praise from a host of musical heroes of his such as Gilbert O’Sullivan and sharing the stage with Ray Davies of The Kinks and Fairground Attraction chanteuse Eddi Reader. The record was produced by former Edwyn Collins collaborators Simon Quigley and Peter Meighan and features a guest appearance from Meteor award winner Wallis Bird.

You can follow Fiach Moriarty on Facebook, Twitter or his website.

Irish Composers on Irish Music: Anne-Marie O’Farrell

The anne-marie o'farrellAssociation of Irish Composers presents:

Irish Composers on Irish Music:

Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harp)

in association with The Drawing Room

4.30pm, 31 May 2015

12 Henrietta Street, Dublin

The final event in the AIC’s Irish Composers on Irish Music concert series sees us join forces with The Drawing Room to present a very special concert in the beautiful Georgian house at 12 Henrietta St.

Anne-Marie O’Farrell’s harp recital on 31st May features two kinds of harp, the pedal harp (normally used in classical orchestral settings), and the Irish harp, a modern version of our national instrument. The repertoire chosen expresses a range of musical languages explored by composers on these instruments over the last fifty years, from John Kinsella’s Allegro Giocoso of 1966, when the semitone mechanism on the Irish harp was an extremely basic one, to Anne-Marie’s own recent composition, Chromatétude which creates 12-note textures on the harp while also giving a nod to much older music heard at the Belfast 1792 harp festival. Kinsella’s work is also a representative piece from Sheila Larchet Cuthbert’s seminal volume for Irish harp, ‘The Irish Harp Book’. Pedal harp repertoire features the voices of James Wilson in his Sonata, Frank Corcoran with In the Deep Heart’s Core and Gráinne Mulvey in Explorations, who in their distinctive ways delve into the large timbral and pitch range of the pedal harp. A number of the works are receiving their first performance, including Mary Kelly’s three Aislingí for Irish harp. The recital creates a welcome opportunity to perform Boydell’s seldom heard but most idiomatic Triptych for Irish harp, and to give a further performance of David Bremner’s miniature Pool.

Irish Composers on Irish Music is supported by the Arts Council. The Association of Irish Composers is supported by IMRO.
