James Cramer Releases His New Single ”Broken”

‘BROKEN’ is the beautiful follow up to spring 2016’s ‘My World Again’, the debut solo single

Following a hectic summer with his alt folk band, Tupelo, James Cramer is now ready to bring us his new single, BROKEN. The new single, released on Friday 21st October is the follow up to James’ debut solo record, ‘My World Again’ released last spring and entered Top 5 in the itunes singles chart.
Filmed in Cauldron Studios Dublin, the video was directed by David Montuy

BROKEN, is again a piano and percussive led track. Quietly approaching in its style, but quickly addictive.
A limited number of live performances are being planned to follow the release of BROKEN, a taster of James’s beautiful solo live sound. The lyrics in this track while appearing quite literal are not related to any particular situation of conflict, but rather are metaphorical. The video was shot to the Cauldron Studios in Dublin, a location that is quickly turning into a home from home for James, and rightly so it’s a perfect spot in the north inner city.

BROKEN was also recorded and engineered by Michael Manning at The Cauldron Studios, mastered by Ciaran Byrne at Cauldron Studios,Produced by James.

Both BROKEN, and the debut single My World Again are taken from James’ debut solo EP, which is expected to land spring 2017.

Similarly to Spring 2016’s ‘My World Again’, BROKEN also conveys an almost reserved side of James, who has primarily written in a different style and genre for his band work.
Investigating this side of his song writing craft has been in James’s plan for some time. In many ways it’s a dream come through that his solo material is now in the public domain.

In addition to this solo project James already has a successful career with acclaimed alt-folk band Tupelo. The band has a very successful recording and live career, especially in Europe and the USA where the band spent most of this summer for festival season.

James debut single from spring of this year, ‘My World Again’ is confirmed to feature in Canadian TV show called Hello Goodbye on the CBC network. The tx time frame in Canada is the end of October (this year!)

You can follow James through his Facebook, Twitter and Website.

UCD Choral Scholars perform Brendan Graham’s ‘Orphan Girl’

Known as Ireland’s leading collegiate chamber choir, the UCD Chamber Scholars have created a video for their rendition of Brendan Graham‘s ‘Orphan Girl’.

Orphan Girl was written by Brendan Graham for a the Annual Great Famine Commemoration ceremony held in 2012 at Sydney’s Hyde Park Barracks to commemorate the relocation of over four thousand female orphans who, between 1848 and 1850, were brought from Ireland during the Great Famine of the 1840s.

The work was first performed by the Australian Girls’ Choir and Sarah Calderwood at the 2012 ceremony. It is reliably estimated that today, up to two million Australians are descended from the original 4,112 Irish Orphan Girls, who found a new life in Australia in the years of Ireland’s Great Calamity.

The rendition of the work is available on a compilation album they feature on titled ‘Invisible Stars’, an enchanting collection of traditional and contemporary choral music from Ireland and Scotland and features arrangements and compositions by some of Ireland’s most celebrated composers.  This arrangement for upper voices and guitar is by Desmond Earley. The album can be purchased here.

Described as ‘a solid Indie Pop band with catchy uplifting indie songs and anthems that have “attitude” and stick in your head’, their new single doesn’t fall off the mark.

The band successfully unveiled their debut EP “Live for the Dream” which charted at NO.3 in the Irish charts to a sell-out house of fans & media at The Grand Social July, 25th 2015. Having just released another single ‘SIGN ON’ which charted No. 7 in MAY. With a string of summer dates in the UK and Ireland, Penrose were invited back to the UK by one of the industries most illuminated music managers Alan Mc Gee – to play gigs as part of the ‘Musicians against Homelessness campaign’, which the band are honoured to be participating in.

The Band have also been asked to support one of their main influences Aslan, as part of the ‘Made in Dublin’ Revisited gigs taking place in Vicar Street this Dec. With a new single, EP and debut Album to follow in 2017, it looks to be an exciting time for the band.

The band: The band consists of Caolan Fitzsimons (rhythm guitar), Mark Bolger (bass), Benji Hayes (Keys) and drummer Donal Bowens complementing McGrane’s lead vocals and lead guitar.

John McSherry To Release New Solo Album ‘The Seven Suns’

‘The Seven Suns’ is a concept album, enticing the listener on a journey through some of the mysteries of Ireland’s ancient past, full of stunning, new compositions for Uilleann Pipes and low whistle.

The importance of Western Europe’s megalithic civilisation and its influence on the Ancient World may have been overlooked by historians. Ireland may have held special significance — a sacred island, an astronomical temple, the spiritual centre of Europe’s Neolithic people.

John McSherry’s second solo outing, ‘The Seven Suns’, is a musical journey into the heart of ancient Ireland, richly inlaid with elements both personal and national, mundane and mythical.
Full of original and exciting new compositions by McSherry and featuring musicians such as Sean Óg Graham, Mike McGoldrick and Niamh Dunne, the album explores Ireland from a global perspective, its key place in the ancient world, and the knowledge, wisdom and preoccupations of the people that inhabited it. Featuring pristine production, innovative arrangements, and masterful musicianship, ‘The Seven Suns’ is more than just a follow-up to the award-winning debut, ‘Soma’ – it surpasses it.

John McSherry has been a major figure in Irish music for almost 20 years. He is hailed as one of the finest exponents of the art of Uilleann piping in the world today, described as “a true master” by Irish Music Magazine.

He is a composer, producer, arranger and established studio session musician of world renown, having recorded and performed with the likes of Sinéad O’Connor, Rod Stewart, Nanci Griffith, Gary Kemp, The Corrs and Clannad – gracing the latter’s Grammy award-winning album, ‘Landmarks’.

A founder member of top traditional music bands Lúnasa, Tamalin and Dónal Lunny’s ‘Coolfin’ in the 1990s, John has subsequently produced a string of critically acclaimed and innovative albums, both solo and collaborative, as well as co-writing ‘The Wheels Of The World: 300 Years of Irish Uilleann Pipers’ (Jawbone Press, 2015), a benchmark publication in traditional music history and appreciation.

John McSherry continues to push the boundaries of Irish music while remaining passionate about its ancient heart, with his current bands The Soma Band, At First Light, Ulaid and The Olllam.
