Empathy unveils explosive sophomore alt-rock single “A Dying Breed” on October 4th

September 16, 2024

Following on from the success of their highly anticipated debut single “Jeffrey”, Empathy is back with their second serving – “A Dying Breed”, to be released October 4th. The new track briefly diverts from the visceral tones of Jeffrey in favour of showcasing more of the alt-rock outfit’s melodic interplay. Clean guitars entwine themselves on a bed of driving drum grooves and meandering bass lines before the choruses erupt with an emphatically heavy riff intent on shaking listeners to their core.

Through fighting backbeats and ripping guitars, the band continues to be driven by distinctive storytelling; using their music to provide societal observations. As the cymbals ring out, the rhythms grow in intensity and the lead electrics begin to scream, the band refuses to pull any punches as the final moments truly roar out of the speakers.

Speaking about the single, the band says:

“A Dying Breed is a song about the social climbers and sycophants we all brush shoulders with. Status seekers who ultimately burn out fast. We all know them.”

Hailing from Northside Dublin, Empathy’s career has only recently begun to take shape. Despite their initial birth as far back as 2017, founding members Dean Nolan (vocals/guitar) and Adam McCarthy (drums) needed an excuse to try out their recent songwriting, their recorded debut only came in August 2024. After recruiting Sam Sweetman (bass) and Dan Rheinisch (guitar), the band powered onto the live scene, their sound echoing The Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies and Interpol.

Having previously performed to sold-out crowds at Whelan’s, The Button Factory and The Academy, Empathy is steadily establishing themselves as an emerging act on the live Irish music scene. Their style, music and live performance all forge a formidable partnership that is a force to be reckoned with.

With follow-up single ‘A Dying Breed’ slated for release in the autumn, the band have been turning heads with their debut offering ‘Jeffrey’ already receiving backing from Irish national broadcaster RTÉ.
