The Alternative Sunday Social Club presents: The Dubtones in The Grand Social on June 16th

June 12, 2024

Blending their own mix of Ska-Punk-Dub-Rock since 2005, no apologies for hearing influences from The Clash and The Specials by way of The Ruts & The Jam, as 3-piece Dublin band The Dubtones wear their influences on their sleeves!

Busy on the gig circuit since their inception, they have clocked up over 350 shows, including many headliners. They have opened for a who’s-who of legendary ska and punk outfits; The Ruts, The Beat (x2) / Bad Manners (x3) / The Selecter / Neville Staple (x3) / The Toasters / The Slackers / Rancid / Citizen Fish / Devils’ Brigade / Inner Terrestrials / The Lurkers / The Vibrators / The Damned / The Members / The Outcasts / TV Smith / Discharge / Barb Wire Dolls / Red Alert / Drongos for Europe / Vic Godard & Subway Sect / Menace / TV Smith / The Casualties / 999 / The Vapors / The Restarts / Protex & CJ Ramone, to name but a few!

They have played the main stage at the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool 2007 (the biggest Punk & Alternative festival in the world) and returned in 2012 after a 5-year gap and play sporadic gigs in the UK. Also active on the Irish festival circuit playing the Tramore Ska Festival / Booleigh Ska Festival / The Hardcore Jamboree / Keep the Faith Festival / This Is Dublin Ska Festival / Rockin’ Road Festival and Rebellion Dublin.

The Dubtones released their latest album, The Art of Social Distancing, in July 2022, and they plan to go and play more UK dates as well as remaining active on the home front. Not all agitators are subversive, but The Dubtones certainly are!

About the Alternative Sunday Social Club

The Alternative Sunday Social Club was created so that music fans can enjoy some top tunes on the last afternoon of the weekend. Since we launched at the beginning of 2015, we’ve hosted gigs by Rocky DeValera (front man of legendry Dublin bands The Gravediggers and The Rhythm Kings), The Dubtones, Blood or Whiskey, The Business, Brush Shield’s Skid Row, Trouble Pilgrims (formerly The Radiators from Space), The Lee Harveys, Eileen Gogan and the Instructions, The Winters, The Hacklers, TV Smith (The Adverts), Strand, The Unelectables and The Outcasts. We’ve had music from right across the spectrum with rock, guitar pop, punk, Americana, blues and ska and we’ve grown our crowd by word of mouth with all ages dropping by on Sunday afternoons. For the band they get the kick of their early live shows, and the audience gets to enjoy the music and the musician up-close and personal. It’s cheap, cheerful and above all fun for everybody who comes along. This isn’t 1000s of people in a converted warehouse; this is dozens of people enjoying music the way it was meant to be seen and heard.
