Kerry songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lorraine Nash shares her long-awaited debut album All That I Can Be, the stunning follow up to her breakout debut EP Wildflower. Lorraine has also announced her first headline shows in Cork and Dublin this May. All That I Can Be is set for release May 12, 2023.
With four singles already released from the album including ‘Sing With Her’, ‘Wolves’, ‘I’ll Go’, and ‘A Minute’ fans have gotten a taste of the genre-defying, image laden lyricism of Lorraine’s song writing. Lorraine has already proven herself as one to watch becoming one of Ireland’s most played female artist on Irish radio over the past 2 years with a slew of fans amongst Irish media. All That I Can Be is also getting its Australian release this June with Lorraine set to tour down under in 2024.
Opening single ‘Sing With Her’ was inspired by the #WhyNotHer movement and its revelations of gender inequality within the Irish music industry. ‘Sing With Her’ sees Lorraine reach deep into the roots of country music, finding her own voice within it. Full of swagger, while showcasing a playfulness with lyrics and an ear for clever arrangement that has become her signature Lorraine Nash has come into her own and is unapologetic about it. ‘Wolves’ is a tale of our need for connection and the lessons learned along the way. Only Lorraine Nash could capture and distil heartbreak, disappointment and growth in 4 minutes of unflinching honesty and self-awareness.
“And I’ve been reading from this map for some time now // And though I wrote it // I still can’t figure it out” sings Lorraine on ‘I’ll Go’ a song about figuring out life’s choices. With a strong trad influence ‘I’ll Go’ showcases Lorraine’s lyricism and imagery laden lyrics to perfection. ‘A Minute’ demonstrates her evolution as a songwriter and a hint of what her upcoming live performances promise. Showcasing Lorraine’s unique vocal with influence from Gillian Welch and Gabrielle Alpin Lorraine allows herself to be her most vulnerable yet.
Lorraine arranges intricately interwoven harmonies with deceptively simple accompaniment. Her song writing has matured in the years since the release of her debut EP Wildflower in 2020. With a tone uniquely hers Lorraine’s vocal has grown in strength; displaying her ambition to continue to evolve as an artist and showcasing the potential that lies ahead for her.
As a creator Lorraine creates her own artwork and videos and used her skill on multiple instruments to self-record her All That I Can Be alongside long-time collaborator Pat Herring Ahern. Lorraine has wowed audiences at Tradfest, Cork Opera House, Right Here Right Now, (Indiependence presents) Autumn Air, Triskel Arts Centre, and Kinsale Arts Festival as well as industry events Your Roots Are Showing and Music Cork. She regularly performs alongside John Spillane, Jack O’Rourke, Stephanie Rainey and The Lost Brothers.
