Dublin pianist Daniel Luke has just announced a headline show in the National Concert Hall as part of the Metronome series; created to present emergent music, new projects and new artists. Support on the night will come from Gareth Quinn Redmond & Albert Karch. Tickets on sale Thursday 30th March.
The pianist, composer, and arranger was a founding member of Gypsies on the Autobahn, releasing two critically acclaimed albums and touring Ireland and the UK extensively for over a decade.
In his childhood home in Cabra in early 2020, Daniel Luke began work on a project of solo piano music. His compositions are uniquely playful, taking inspiration from his Classical training, and borrowing elements of the Jazz, Contemporary and Neo-Classical music that he loves.
Chatterbox is the second single taken from his upcoming debut album, released to celebrate World Piano Day. Chatterbox was recorded on the piano in his childhood home, with his brother engineering the session. Luke made a DIY felt with Irish Linen, clothes pegs and blue tack to create a delicate, mellow and characterful sound. Chatterbox is a piece full of flowing melodies, both playful and delicate. Tinged with nostalgia and an energetic melancholy, it is a sparkling second single from the Dublin pianist.
The music video was directed by Oliver Kelly (Paddy Hanna – Yoko Ono, Stevie Appleby – Mother of Pearl, J Smith – Blood Orange) and Daniel Luke. The video follows a bubble on his journey to find a lost love. Shot in many Dublin locations over the course of three days, the video proved more difficult than initially planned.
‘We ended up with about 50 minutes of footage, a good portion of which is just bubbles getting caught in a gust of wind and bursting. I had heard about not working with kids and animals but I would personally add bubbles to that list too.’ – Daniel Luke
