Les Keye releases new single The Phantom Limb
The Phantom Limb is an exploration of family and migration and is a welcome return to the front of the stage from Producer, Musician and Songwriter, Les Keye.
Les Keye was the lead singer and songwriter of much-loved Dublin band The Wilde Oscars who released an album (Fish) as well as two EPs (Falling Down, Newspaper) during the 1990s. Les subsequently branched out on his own, releasing two solo albums, Breathe in 1999 and Plan B…Again in 2004.
Latest release, The Phantom Limb is a record which examines Les’ family history- half Catholic, (on his mother’s side), from Kilmainhamwood, descended from the great harpist O’Carolyn, and the other half – Jewish émigrés escaping persecution from Russia and Poland at the end of the 19th century, and arriving in Dublin (via London) just before WW2.
Working in separate studios in two different countries The Phantom Limb was written and recorded with his old flat mate, sometime band member, and extraordinary musician Joe Chester.
The Phantom Limb, the album’s eponymous 1st single is derived from lines of a poem written by Hughie Brown, a famine poet in Les’ family, and remembered by his mother, who remembers her mother reciting them to her.
The first single The Phantom Limb is out now.
