ICC | For the Voice | Tenor Andrew Gavin to Perform Six New Works

Irish tenor Andrew Gavin will perform five new works on 14 June 2018 as part of the ICC’s For the Voice series. Six new works will be premiered at this concert by ICC composers/members Elaine Nolan, Philip Parker, Kevin Free, Rachael Lavelle, Luke Smyth and Lizzy O’Brien.

Andrew Gavin is a graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he studied under Mary Brennan. His career has seen him involved in many opera and cantata performances across Ireland and the UK. Opera engagements include the roles of Alleyne, O’Halloran and Bob in Andrew Synnott’s Dubliners performed at the Wexford Opera Festival in October 2017, the role of Damon in the Opera Theatre Company’s production of Handel’s Acis and Galatea and, the role of Arabace in Mozart’s Idomeneo at the 2016 Kilkenny Arts Festival. Oratoria engagements include Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Liszt’s Coronation Mass, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 (Lobegesang), CPE Bach’s Magnificat, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s The Creation, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Bach’s St John Passion and the complete Mozart mass series of the Dún Laoghaire Choral Society.

The For the Voice series also sees ICC’s first performer mentorship scheme in which emerging performers are paired with experienced performers who mentor them on the intricacies of performing new music and working with composers. Three of the works will be performed by Andrew, two works are duets written for Andrew and his mentee Sofiia Kravets, and one work is a solo for Sofiia.

This concert will be the first in the For the Voice Series which will also include performances from mezzo-soprano Michelle O’Rourke and soprano Elizabeth Hilliard. This series will explore various modes of vocal writing including music for solo unaccompanied voice, duets, voice and electronics and, voice and instrumental accompaniment. The second concert of the series with Michelle O’Rourke will take place on 5 July and the final concert, with Elizabeth Hilliard, takes place in September.
