Join Me In The Pines Return with Highly Anticipated Whelan’s Headline Date

David Geraghty is most well-known to Irish audiences as a founding member of Bell X1 but in recent years he has been exploring a new solo direction under the moniker Join Me In The Pines. The new video for their current single ‘Bad Blood’ directed by Simon Daniels and produced by Design for Life has just been released and continues in the band’s new electropop vein, with synths and layered vocals with a distinctly 80’s feel.

Join Me in the Pines recently completed a full band tour in May and June where Dave was joined by Marc Aubele (keyboards and vocals) and Mick Major (bass and vocals) and Tim O Donovan (drums and vocals). The tour was a chance for fans to hear the bold new musical direction and it was hugely successful. David says “It was so satisfying to finally hear the full energy of the band bringing the recordings to life and to receive the reactions we did. Thanks to everyone that came to the shows. There´ll be lots more to come.”

After completing some solo shows in July and August the full band will re-join David for a tour again this November, which will include dates in Kilkenny, Cork and Galway and a highly anticipated Dublin Show in Whelan’s on 17 November.

A new album will be forthcoming later this year with mixing duties undertaken by the very talented Ross Dowling (James Vincent McMorrow, Talos, Brian Deady). This will be David’s fourth solo release and the second under Join Me in the Pines.

Join Me In The Pines Live;
Fri 9 November Cyprus Ave, Cork
Sat 17 November Whelan’s, Dublin

IMRO would like to send their condolences to the family and friends of renowned composer Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, who has passed away following a prolonged illness at the age of 67.

Jack Lukeman and the National Children’s Choir Join Forces for The Starman Project

Jack Lukeman (BCO music patron) together with the National Children’s Choir and the Trinity String Orchestra have come together for The Starman Project to release David Bowie’s iconic anthem ‘Starman’. The single will be available from all digital platforms from Friday 9th November 2018 to coincide with Science Week and the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.

A group of Irish students from Cork’s Educate Together overseen by CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory (BCO) have led the charge on The Starman Project that has seen young people from all over the country coming together to collaborate on a recording of David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ in conjunction with the Dublin Bowie Festival.

Speaking about the single BCO spokesperson Clair McSweeney said “The Apollo missions were an exercise in testing the limits of human ambition and cooperation that culminated in timeless events that unified and inspired a generation. The small step, before the giant leap. As the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission approaches in 2019, what better way to celebrate it than to undertake another ambitious project in that spirit of cooperation with students from across Ireland collaborating with Jack Lukeman and the National Children’s Choir on The Starman Project and the release of ‘Starman’ in aid of Lauralynn Children’s Hospice”.

The Starman video is inspired by the Earthrise image; the first image of planet Earth to capture the world’s imagination taken during the Apollo 8 mission on December 24, 1968 and by David Bowie’s love of Earth and Space, and appreciation of our duty of care to our only home. The video is set against a sweeping backdrop of Ireland’s Dark Sky sites, archeoastronomy sites and skyscapes such as Newgrange and the Boyne Valley where over 5,000 years ago Stone Age astronomers in Ireland built monuments to track the Sun.

‘Starman’, produced by Duncan Maitland, Ger Eaton and Jack Lukeman, was recorded at the Sound Training College by Jack Lukeman and is available for streaming/download across all digital platforms from Friday 12 November 2018 with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the Lauralynn Children’s Hospice.

Jack Lukeman has been touring as special guest with The Proclaimers and Jools Holland on their UK tour dates since October 2018 but makes a highly anticipated return to Ireland in December including a show at the National Concert Hall with the National Children’s Choir on 2 December 2018.

Picture This Release ‘One Drink’ Music Video’

Today, critically acclaimed Irish international phenomenon Picture This release the official music video for their new single ‘One Drink’.

The song heralds the arrival of the band’s anxiously awaited second full-length album, ‘MDRN LV’, releasing in stores and at all digital retailers on February 15, 2019. Produced by Jayson Dezuzio [Imagine Dragons, X Ambassadors], the record represents a creative high watermark for the quartet as they expand their signature style and venture into uncharted sonic territory.

The biggest act in Ireland and the nation’s hottest musical export in decades, Picture This arrived as a phenomenon with their self-titled 2017 full-length debut, ‘Picture This’. Certified triple-platinum in Ireland, it held the #1 spot in the Irish Album Chart for four weeks, while topping the Streaming Chart for seven weeks. Moreover, it remained in the Top 5 for 38 consecutive weeks.

Two years since their formation, they’ve impressively sold over 300K tickets, concluding 2017 with a sold-out UK and Ireland tour highlighted by gigs at O2 Shepherd’s Bush London, SSE Arena Belfast, and a two-night stand at 3Arena in Dublin. This summer marked their first stadium tour in Ireland, which capped off with a 35,000-person stadium show selling out over 3 months prior.

Last month the band announced the ‘MDRN LV’ European tour which includes shows in London, Manchester, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Amsterdam and Stockholm. It also includes a sold out five-night residency in Dublin’s biggest indoor arena, 3Arena, next March, 2019.

CISAC 2018 Global Collections Report Highlights Growth in Digital Royalties

Global royalties’ collections for creators of music, audiovisual, visual arts, drama and literature rose to a record high of €9.6 billion in 2017, up 6.2% on the previous year, according to the 2018 Global Collections Report published today by CISAC (International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers).

Royalties from digital income are reported over the €1 billion mark for the first time after a 24.0% increase in 2017. Digital collections have nearly tripled (up 166%) in the last five years, boosted by the streaming boom and, lately, by surging consumer uptake of video streaming services.

Music royalties have grown to €8.3 billion, up 6.0%, with digital also reported over €1 billion for the first time.

Despite digital’s rise for all repertoires to €1.27 billion, revenues from digital uses remain far below collections from broadcast, live and background uses. Only 13% of creators’ royalties come from digital sources (up from 11%), a reflection of the gross mismatch between the volume of creative work being made available via digital channels and the amounts being returned to creators.

It is the fifth consecutive year of global growth for creators, and the first to see increases in all repertoires. Solid growth in TV and radio collections suggests surging digital revenues are not currently cannibalising traditional markets. In 16 of the top 20 digital collecting countries, broadcast royalties saw growth.

Commenting on the Report, CISAC Director General Gadi Oron said: “This impressive performance proves that authors’ societies are delivering value to the millions of creators they represent around the world. They have responded to rapidly changing technology, licensing digital services in new flexible ways and handling trillions of data transactions. And they are fighting for the best licensing terms and the highest royalties possible in a world where powerful users are determined to avoid, or minimise, paying a fair return for their work”.

CISAC President, electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre said: “CISAC is at the heart of a battle for the future of over 4 million creators worldwide. I am passionately involved in this struggle. Europe has now recognised that it is time for change: it is not acceptable for the law to shield large tech monopolies and sustain a systemic injustice for creators. There is now a message to get to the rest of the world: it is time for other governments to sit up and follow”.

The CISAC Global Collections Report provides exclusive in-depth data and analysis from CISAC’s 239 member authors’ societies in 121 countries. The 2018 Report includes:
•10 individual country case studies;
•breakdowns by region;
•global growth forecasts on video streaming;
•for the first time, comprehensive pages of raw data including country and repertoire rankings.

Global Collections Report highlights:
•Music collections increase 6.0% to €8.34 billion
•Audiovisual collections rise 6.8% to €611 million
•Literature collections climb 5.2% to €227 million
•Visual arts royalties jump 19.0% to €208 million
•Dramatic repertoire collections grow 3.7%
•TV and radio continue to be the top use category at €3.89 billion, followed by live and background at €2.74 billion

CISAC’s global network of 239 societies licenses content and collects royalties on behalf of 4 million creators for uses including TV, radio, live, background, digital and private copying.

‘Féile Classical – The Live Album’ Set for November Release

After a 21-year hiatus the trip to Tipp made an electrifying return to Thurles as Féile Classical with two-sold out concerts on the hallowed grounds of Semple Stadium, 21st and 22nd September. The jam-packed concerts to over 20,000 people, were lauded as the gig-of-the-year by many who attended.

The line-up consisted of the greats of the Irish 90s, The Stunning, An Emotional Fish, Something Happens, Hothouse Flowers, The 4 of Us and The Frank & Walters each performing their legendary hits in perfect harmony with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Speaking of the incredible reaction, MC of the concerts Tom Dunne, who’s band Something Happens performed at Féile ‘90, ‘91 and ’93, says:

Hand on heart: I was humbled to have been part of something so special, it was a remarkable two days. People talk about ‘special events’ and ‘creating magic’, Féile Classical went beyond that, everyone involved gave it their all to create truly memorable performances. The connection with the audience was visceral, moving and real. It had the same energy as the early Féiles, people were too involved in the moment to want to watch it through their mobile phones. As one texter to my radio show said, I don’t want to move on from it, not yet, not for a while, that’s how I feel, and how the bands feel that way too.

Following the huge success of the concerts ‘Féile Classical – The Live Album’ will be released on Friday 23rd November. Featuring band performances with the ICO of songs that were so well received at the concerts, the tracks have been mixed and mastered and will be released on 2 formats – CD and CD/DVD. Fans can look forward to classics ‘After All’ by The Frank & Walters, ‘Parachute’ by Something Happens, ‘Mary’ by The 4 Of Us and many others. The brand-new recordings capture the same feel-good factor from those two magical nights in September and are a must-by for anyone who attended their concerts or anyone who loves Irish music!
