Delorentos to Release Christmas EP in Aid of Focus Ireland

Delorentos release their first ever Christmas EP, ‘Be Here Christmas Time’, on 23rd November to celebrate the end of another momentous year!

2018 saw the band release their 5th Top 10 Studio Album, True Surrender, and fulfil another year of European touring (Ireland, UK, Germany, Spain….) and Irish festivals (Indiependence, Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions, Live At The Marquee…) climaxing in a headline show at the Olympia Theatre in mid-November.

The ‘Be Here Christmas Time’ EP comprises an original and two resolutely seasonal cover versions:

1. ‘Be Here Christmas Time’ – an original Delorentos tune, described by the band as a “lullaby for grownups. It celebrates the simple act of sharing time with a loved one – not the obligatory family mash-up but time with your best pal, who gets you and accepts you and who you can chat with into the early hours, or sit with happily in complete silence. Christmas can be difficult for many of us and, with its celebration becoming more and more contorted, this song tries to capture its most special element: the opportunity, in mid-winter, to down tools and be with those you love.

2. ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ –a version of the classic Phil Spector-produced tune – originally sung by Darlene Love and released on the 1963 Christmas album ‘A Christmas Gift For You From Phillies Records’. Recorded by Gavin Blake for Today FM.

3. ‘Winter Song’ – a version of what has rapidly become regarded as a classic Christmas tune, originally released by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson in 2008 and a minor hit in their native Canada.

Plans for 2019 are rapidly coming together with venue shows in Spain and Benelux planned for the early part of the year with a whole lot more to be slotted in very soon!

All proceeds from the sale of the EP will be donated to Focus Ireland this Christmas.

Flynn Releases ‘My Gold’

Flynn releases new single, ‘My Gold’ via DFL Records [16.11.2018].

Produced by Joe Kerns and co-written by Martin Luke Brown, the electrifying pop-indie anthem has an infectious hook and catchy hard-hitting lyrics that you won’t be able to stop singing along to. Flynn’s unmistakable, soaring soulful vocals are the real star of the track and Brown’s piano-lead instrumentation inject the song with its expressive charm and edge.

The lyrics provide a very personal view into Flynn’s world who explains the meaning behind the song, “My Gold is about losing someone that means the world to you, someone as valuable as gold.

‘My Gold’ follows on from the epic, ‘Red Light’ and ‘Peace of Mind’ both of which were released this year and have amassed over 3 million streams combined.

IYMAs Volume 11 Storms the Charts

Youth Work Ireland’s Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMAs) is very excited to announce that IYMAs Volume 11 has stormed the Irish charts and landed at number 3 in the Irish compilation charts.

Speaking today Irish Youth Music Awards Director Barry Lennon said “It is a great honour to be part of the journey of so many amazing young people through their involvement in Youth Work Irelands Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMAs) programme each year. We really enjoy creating this album at the end of the programme as a snapshot of the brilliant talent, creativity and energy that exists on the island of Ireland, one which we should seek to cherish and nurture. We are overjoyed to announce that we have got the album to number 3 in the charts, a brilliant day for the IYMAs programme and we hope this acts as inspiration for other up and coming acts in Ireland.

IYMAs volume 11 features tracks from Youth Work Ireland Galway’s representing team, as they are the recipient region of the IYMAs programme for a third year in a row, along with Róise McHugh from Youth Action Northern Ireland Belfast who was selected as the IYMAs Lil Red songwriter award recipient.

This year the album featured a special track dedicated to Sean Hughes (aka Lil Red) who was involved in the IYMAs for the last few years through his IYMAs hub in Finglas Youth Resource Centre and who passed away early this year. This track was recorded by his friends Newkind and features Beyond the Beat FYRC and is called Friday Morning.

The album was produced in Herbert Place Studios giving the young musicians the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Muse, Kodaline and Hozier who finished a recording session there just before IYMAs Volume 11 was recorded. The album was mastered in Wav mastering who have worked with David Bowie, The Foo Fighters and Damien Rice.

The album release marks the launch of the IYMAs programme in youth clubs and projects across Ireland with regional events being planned now. The Irish Youth Music Awards is a youth music educational programme helping young bands, musicians and young people aged 12-19 to learn new skills within the creative and music industries and acts as a stepping stone between further education or employment opportunities. Aimed at creating teamwork and friendship at local level, the Irish Youth Music Awards also provides first hand work experience for participants in all areas associated with the music business such as PR, stage management, graphic design, photography and creates spaces for acts to perform on a local level through the IYMAs hubs.

The album is available on CD in OMG Zhivago in Galway and digitally from all platforms here.

The IYMAs invites youth clubs or projects looking to get involved in the programme to contact them to get more information.

IYMAs partners and supporters include The Department of Children and Youth Affairs, RTÉ 2FM, BIMM Institute Dublin, IMRO, Music Maker, Gaisce – The President’s Award and Youth Action Northern Ireland.

ZAPHO Shares ‘Do Like I Do’

ZAPHO has just released her debut single ‘Do Like I Do’ on iTunes, Spotify, Google, Apple, Deezer, etc. through Distrokid, premiered by Nialler9. From Rathfarnham, Dublin, 25-year-old singer, songwriter, musician, producer and performer ZAPHO (aka Ele Breslin) writes the kind of smart, svelte electro-pop/soul songs that arrive only from an intuitive understanding of the form.

‘Do Like I Do’ was a long time in the making. Written and produced by ZAPHO, with varying inputs from various producers, Steve McCann, Andy Savours and Steve Osbourne, this single is truly the product of creative collaboration. Reefing Pop by its neck collar, ZAPHO’s debut single is set to turn our senses on their toes, reminding us of what we love about Pop as a genre, while unsettling our expectations of what it should be. Like ZAPHO herself, ‘Do Like I Do’, is a standalone piece, but in the same breath the song is a resounding shout-out to that feeling of doing whatever we want to do, whenever we want to do it while owning the confidence of knowing you’re great at what you do. ‘Do Like I D’o, was mixed by James Darkin of Dublin’s Herbert Lane Studio and mastered by Pete Maher.

Joining ZAPHO onstage in the Grand Social will be her not-so-small entourage: Chris Cahill (Guitar and Live-mixing), Laura O’Sullivan (Piano/ Violin/ Backing Vocal), Donal Pywell (Bass), Katie Ryan (Backing Vocal) , Niamh Casey (Drums) , Ryan Hardagan (Sax). A whopping 7-piece extravaganza, comprising luscious walls of harmonies, and a rhythm section your ears will thank you for.  ZAPHOs band is a showcase of the new and ever-evolving contemporary musicianship Ireland currently has to offer, all brought together in ZAPHO’s quest for genre defying Pop music.

Bang on target, the next six months will see ZAPHO’s music filter out via songs and accompanying videos, with an occasional remix delivered for good measure. And those songs? Skillfully produced and expertly performed, prepare for lush and lively tunes that reference ZAPHO’s “deepest, darkest thoughts and desires, and everything else in-between that I’m not brave enough to, or wouldn’t, do.”

Don’t miss this special show on Wed 21 November in The Grand Social, Dublin, support on the night comes from TADGH & DEADLYMAN. Doors 8pm and Tickets €10.

Judith Mok and the Khoshravesh Brothers Play Unitarian Church

In the 16th century the Jews were expelled from Spain, and scattered East to the Ottoman Empire, North Africa and even further afield. They took with them the Spanish language and the music of medieval Spain. Down through the centuries they interacted and mingled with the music of the East, to produce what is now known as Sephardic music. The Dutch soprano of part Sephardic descent, Judith Mok, has been exploring and performing this repertoire for decades.

The Khoshravesh brothers, now based in Paris, studied classical and traditional music in their native Iran. They have joined Judith Mok in a programme which mixes the many traditions of West and East, and explores their similarities and differences, the cross-fertilisations. They will be performing together Sephardic songs, classical Persian music, and in addition, they will perform other music from the 16th century, such as John Dowland, using traditional instruments.

In addition, they will be joined by some very special guests on the night.

This promises to be an evening of unusual cross-cultural exchanges performed by musicians at the very top of their game in the beautiful surroundings of the Unitarian Church on Stephen’s Green. Certainly nothing like it has ever been heard in Dublin before, so don’t miss out!

Judith Mok and the Khoshravesh brothers play Dublin Unitarian Church on Monday 17th December 2018 @ 8.15

Loah to Release ‘This Heart EP Remixes’

Loah is set to release ‘This Heart EP Remixes’.

‘This Heart EP Remixes’ presents itself as a cleansing ritual, providing an ability to let go and make way for new ideas. When all the insecurities fade away, curiosity overwhelms any doubts of the petty human ego. The art takes precedence.  Loah exudes a confidence and self-assuredness which offers a tantalizing glimpse of we can expect from future releases. The concept for a full EP of remixes arose over a quite winter drink with good friend Adam Fogarty. It seemed an irresistible symmetry to hand the work over to be reimagined, and to sign off on a hugely successful couple of years and first release. 2019 will bring much new music, new vistas, so this is a toast to the end of chapter one.

The Redneck Manifesto Share Latest Single Ahead of Album and Vicar Street Date

The Redneck Manifesto announce they are celebrating 20 years of making music this year, by releasing a new album, and bringing you a very special live show in Vicar Street on 30th November.

Ahead of the album release, they have just released a new single, ‘Djin Chin’.

What is ‘The How’? ‘The How’ is the sound of six people listening. Six people finding the space in which to speak without interrupting. Six people finding a layer to add to a topography. It is considered, hundreds of times over considered, no riff or sound accepted unless it fits strict criteria. How does a piece become part of a jigsaw? That is ‘The How’ indeed.

20 years of creating a new language together, the wordless language that all bands come to know, a siblinghood of nods and head shakes, hours of, ‘hang on I think I have it’, evenings drinking tea listening to iPhone recordings, whittling and listening, head scratches, ‘is that me playing that?’, muscle memory, refining, taking away instead of adding but always listening, listening and then one evening it doesn’t need to be thought about anymore, it is done. That is ‘The How’, it is the new album from TRM.

‘The How’ was recorded in Attica Audio with David Odlum (Tinariwen, Dublin Guitar Quartet, The Wedding Present), Karl Odlum (Cian Nugent, David Kitt ) and Tommy McLaughlin (Villagers, Soak). ‘The How’ was mixed at Black Box Studios by David Odlum. ‘The How’ was mastered by Steve Fallone (The War on Drugs, Tame Impala, David Byrne) at Sterling Sound New York.

‘The How’ was written by TRM and is released on 251 Records.

They play Vicar Street in Dublin on November 30th, with special guests The Dublin Guitar Quartet, and New Jackson. Tickets on sale now.
