Gavin James Returns with ‘Glow’

Last Friday, 7th of September, Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James returned with his most anticipated single yet ‘Glow’.

Lifted from his forthcoming sophomore album ‘Only Ticket Home’ (due for release October 26th) ‘Glow’ (Mixed by Mark Ralph – Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne, Years and Years, Rudimental) finds Gavin James in familiar territory following on sonically from his previous worldwide hits ‘Nervous (The Ooh Song)’ and ‘Tired’ with an up-tempo pop anthem, complete with infectious hooks and a full band, that helps to set the tone for his new album ‘Only Ticket Home’.

“’Glow’ was one of the first songs I recorded for the album and set the mood for every other song on the album after that sonically so as people listen to the album, there is a natural flow to the album.”

On the track ‘Glow’, Gavin says “’Glow’ is a song about modern day relationships.  It’s the feeling you get when you know you’re in love with someone and it scares you at the same time.  It’s pretty much about not giving up on something that could be amazing just out of fear and then ultimately regretting it if you let go.”

To accompany the release of ‘Glow’, Gavin will release a second music video shot in and around his hometown of Dublin, featuring iconic locations that kick-started Gavin’s career and featuring several cameo’s including his parents and famous musicians.

With over 800M streams across Gavin James catalogue to date, 2M singles sold, 50 multi-platinum records from Ireland all the way to Brazil and having performed to over 3 million people around the world so far, ‘Glow’ looks set to become Gavin James’ biggest single to date.

Alongside the release of ‘Glow’, Gavin James’ new album ‘Only Ticket Home’ will be available to pre-order from September 7th both digitally and as part of an album-ticket bundle through his official website http://www.gavinjamesmusic.com for his upcoming to be announced UK tour dates.  Check out the album track-listing below.

The Bounty Announce Debut Single

With members from Cork and Waterford, The Bounty are a powerful alternative rock band gearing up to release their debut single ‘Tell Me’ on October 10.

The single ‘Tell Me’ holds special meaning to each member of the band. Released on World Mental Health Day, the single will be used to raise awareness for mental health in Ireland raising funds for Pieta House at the band’s upcoming gigs and events.

Speaking about the single, lead guitarist Sean Whelan says, “The song is written from the perspective of someone offering support and understanding to a friend suffering from mental health issues. The changing rhythms and tempo throughout the single reflect the ebb and flow of mental health. As a band we want to fight the stigma attached to mental health issues and start a discourse encouraging people to talk more openly about it.”

The Bounty is made up of Sean Whelan on lead guitar, Andrew O’Riordan on lead vocals & acoustic guitar with Barry Meaney on bass and Adam Clarke on percussion. The Bounty has a unique sound moulded by influences from indie, blues, funk and classic rock.

Formed in 2016, The Bounty met on the CSN course for ‘Music, Management &  Sound’. They write, record and produce music in their own studio.

‘Tell Me’ is their debut single and it set for release on World Mental Health day on October 10.

Live Dates:

Delorentos Share Latest Single ‘SOS’

‘SOS’ is the latest single to be taken from Delorentos fifth Top 10 studio album ‘True Surrender’, (following on from ‘In Darkness We Feel Our Way’, ‘In The Moment’ and ‘Islands’).

“We are in the midst of turbulent times, politically and socially. The pressure is mounting, as citizens of western democracies become increasingly frustrated, that the prosperity enjoyed and promised by the ruling classes, continues to allude them.

The gulf between rich and poor is ever widening. Rather than working to bridge this gap, many of those in positions of power attempt to distract the people from their negligence, by demonising some of the most vulnerable in society, such as minority groups and those seeking asylum.

We are being conditioned to see these people as other, in order to divide and distract us from challenging the systemic inequalities in our societies.

‘SOS’, as the title suggests, is a cry for help. It is an attempt to see things from the position of the most vulnerable, those who have “no choice”, to empathise and direct our compassion where it is most needed.”

Fresh from a brace of cracking, stuffed shows at Electric Picnic (with an expanded line-up including Tully on keyboards and backing vocals together with Emily and Orla on additional vocals), the Dublin quartet are now knuckling down to prepare for their full album tour of Ireland in October and November with shows right around Ireland (including Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on November 10th and Oslo venue in London on November 17th as well as German shows in October). The Blizzards and Tebi Rex Join Forces for ‘I Need A Win’

Get Ready for The Blizzards VS Tebi Rex! The new single ‘I Need A Win’ is the second single taken from The Blizzards upcoming full-length and is available across all digital platforms from Friday 5 October.

The feel good love child of slightly less than gnarled rockers The Blizzards and feel good hip hop young guns Tebi Rex, ‘I Need A Win’ is about just needing a little break once in a while. Soaring guitars, laidback verses and a chorus you’d kiss the milkman for makes this one of the most feel good tracks of the year from two diverse Irish acts you wouldn’t normally picture hanging out, but we’re glad they did.

The Blizzards who came back with a bang in 2016 with airwave dominating tracks ‘Drop Down The Anchor’, ‘Perfect on Paper’ and ‘Show Me The Science’, have announced their first studio album in a decade. The album, due in Autumn 2018, will be compiled of previously unreleased tracks from the Mullingar band. The album was recorded between the legendary Grouse Lodge recording studio and Dublin’s very own Camden Recording Studios, and was produced by Philip Magee, the usual suspect behind The Blizzard‘s most recent hits.

The Blizzards will announce their Autumn/Winter Tour Dates very soon following their spectacular show on the Salty Dog stage at Electric Picnic.

‘I Need A Win’  is out everywhere on 5 October 2018

New album coming in Autumn 2018.

Vickers Vimy to Release Latest Single ‘Chicago’

‘Chicago’ is the third single from the album ‘Atlas Of Hearts’ and was inspired by the ideas of Guglielmo Marconi who transmitted wireless signals from Clifden, Co. Galway to Glace Bay in Nova Scotia. The song imagines being out on a boat in Clew Bay as a storm bears down and giant sparks from the Marconi Station appear in the distance like fireworks crackling in the clouds.

In a landscape that can truly rattle your bones and inspire your dreams Vickers Vimy continue to document in song the wonders of the Wild Atlantic.

Hailing from Mayo, on the Wild Atlantic coast of Ireland, Vickers Vimy craft songs that dwell on the borders of Folk and Americana. Rich eclectic sounds anchor lyrical themes of scratched vinyl nights and hazy Sunday mornings. Their second album ‘Atlas of Hearts’ was released on March 31st.

Vickers Vimy have collaborated with Colm Mac Con Iomaire (The Frames & Swell Season) and had the pleasure of recording in the studio of Nick Seymour (Crowded House). Vickers Vimy have had the amazing fortune to support the late John Martyn. They have supported The Hothouse Flowers, The 4 Of Us, Maria Doyle Kennedy, and Mundy. They have shared the RTÉ Music Train with Christy Moore, Paul Brady, Kodaline, and Jack L.

Brave Giant Release ‘Somebody’s Someone’

Against, the backdrop of a hectic summer which saw Brave Giant play the main stages at Sea Sessions, Sunflowerfest and Groove Festival amongst others, The Word Stage at Mindfield at Electric Picnic, and headline others, such as Longford Town Festival, where an estimated audience of over 5,000 came out to see them play, Brave Giant will play a second, late night show at The Button Factory this September 21st, with doors at 11pm.

The band’s show at the same venue on Saturday September 22nd, sold out earlier this summer.

Some of us will remember the fabulous concerts under the theme of Midnight at The Olympia! This additional show by Brave Giant is set to give all the good feels of those infamous shows, except it’s down the street, at The Button Factory instead!Tickets are now on sale from ticketmaster.ie

In addition to clocking up another sell out show here at home; Brave Giant’s debut headline London show for October 31st went on sale earlier this week and sold out in four days! In doing so the show has become “one of the fastest selling shows at the well-known venue, The Islington (Tolpuddle St) since it opened its doors”. Due to this demand, a second show for Friday November 2nd is now on sale!

Formed in 2011, Mark Prunty (guitar/vox), Podge Gill (guitar/vox), Ross McNerney (banjo/mandolin), Emmett Collum (drums) are the four Longford men of Brave Giant. Their love of Irish music is evident in their sound, a skilfully achieved blend of rock, folk and alternative influences.

Since releasing the first commercial track in 2016 (‘Lordy Lordy), Brave Giant has had a string of top 5 singles, most recently ‘Dakota’. ‘Way To Love’, the single went all the way to no 1 on iTunes main pop chart last winter. ‘More Beast Than Beauty’ was also issued to Spotify this summer.

The new single ‘Somebody’s Someone’ is a huge hit in the band’s live show and allows Mark, Podge, Emmett and Ross collectively channel their romantic side! The song also features a stunning string section with Niamh Crowley (violins), Steve Wickham (violins), Austin McManus (Viola) and Anna Houston (Cello) providing this beautiful sound. ‘Somebody’s Someone’ is released via Warner Music distribution on September 14th.

The last two years have been remarkable for the independent band. ‘The Time I Met the Devil’ single from 2017 has enjoyed almost 100,000 views alone (featuring Irish actor and comedian, Joe Rooney) adding to the band’s impressive overall tally of over 1,000,000 online video views. The independent band’s Spotify streams have also surpassed the impressive 1,000,000 mark.

With seven consecutive sell-out headline Dublin shows over the last two years, together with a number of independent regional sell out dates also this band is firmly making it mark across the country.

It’s only half way through 2018, and the Longford four-piece has also headlined Hype Festival, played the main stage at Sea Sessions and were delighted to make a return to Leixlip Rock The Yard Festival, later this month will also play the main stage at Sunflowerfest, and had the privilege of being invited to guest with Hudson Taylor at three of the dates on the band’s headline Irish tour earlier this spring.

2017, saw the band play festivals such as Longitude and Minefield at Electric Picnic, together with traveling stateside for the Milwaukee Irish Festival, a headline show in Rockwood Music Hall in New York, and being invited to guest with fellow midlanders, Picture This at one of their sold-out Olympia Shows. Previously, winning JOE.ie’s Le Crunch competition, joining Gavin James and Roisin O as musical ambassadors for Bord na Móna’s inaugural #HearthSessions campaign and capturing its first Top five single still remain highlights of 2016

(Est. by Leitrim Co. Council in 2006). As a result of the time spent together in The Leitrim Equation residency and subsequent tour, the four-piece of Eleanor Shanley, Dave Sheridan, Padraig McGovern and John McCartin had decided to work together. To record an album.

Now less than two years later, ‘GARADICE’ the album is complete and awaiting release. The self-titled debut from the talented collective will be released on Friday October 5th

‘GARADICE’, the album is a collection of 13 eclectic songs and tunes. Recording commenced in 2017 in John McKenna’s cottage in Leitrim and the final touches recently completed in Kerry, where it was also mixed by the multi-talented Donogh Hennessey. Eleanor Shanley is one of the most loved and respected vocalists in Ireland. Nearly 30 years since starting her musical career as a vocalist with De Danann, and her voice is as pure and lyrical as the first day she stepped in front of a microphone in 1990. Renowned for her unique interpretation of Irish and Roots songs Eleanor has been at the top of her profession since joining De Danann and has recorded many solo albums including Desert HeartA Place of My Own and her most recent, Forever Young from which her single, the Thom Moore classic Gorgeous and Bright, was the most played track on RTE 1 Radio for the summer of 2015.

Eleanor has toured Ireland, Canada, The USA, Europe, China and Japan both as a soloist, together with De Danann and other artists. She has also recorded with many great musicians including Ronnie Drew with whom she recorded two albums (Ronnie Drew and Eleanor Shanley and El Amor De Mi Vida), Sharon Shannon, Christy Moore, Donal Lunny, U2, The Dubliners and many more.

Padraig McGovern hails from Ballymagovern, a townland on the Cavan/Leitrim border. He has recorded with numerous artists over the last decade including a highly accredited duet album with Peter Carberry entitled Forgotten Gems. Padraig recently participated in the highly acclaimed multi-disciplinary project, The Pipes The Pipes, devised by Dónal Dineen. With fellow pipers Leonard Barry and Maitiú O’Casaide and visual artists Lionel Palun and Guillermo Carrion, the show paid homage to the instrument, old pipers, current pipers and also offered and insight into the future of piping.

Dave Sheridan’s flute playing has been described as “a highly accomplished free flowing fluid style, with sound technique and solid driving rhythm” (Hot Press Magazine) and a flute style, which takes on “Lark like qualities” (fRoots Magazine). On the back of his critically acclaimed debut album Sheridans Guesthouse, he released his second solo flute album entitled Drivin’ Leitrim Timber in 2010. This album has received rave reviews, with The Irish Times describing it as “a joy…. a thoughtfully organised collection, that celebrates a fluid free flowing regional flute style….with enough sharp edges to keep the listener’s antennae on high alert for the next hairpin bend”. Dave has recorded with artists from renowned traditional groups like Lunasa, Dervish, At The Racket and De Danann as well as performing on many occasions with the Sligo based band Téada. He has also performed on The Late Late Show, The Ray Darcy Show, Geantrai, The Reel Deal and Fleadh Live.

John McCartin started playing the fiddle at the age of 10 under the tutelage of Frank Kelly and later Maureen Fahy. He won many county and provincial titles at underage levels. Inspired by bands like Planxty, Dervish and Lunasa John turned his attention to accompaniment in his adult life. Since then he has become a regular accompanist to many of the traditions greatest exponents.

Alex Smyth Releases ‘Escort’

‘Escort’ is the brand new song by ambient and electronic artist Alex Smyth. This is first release since his Debut EP ‘The Utopian Dream’.

‘Escort’ is one of many songs Alex has written in 2018 and feels it shows the right progression since his ambient writing style as the song is a lot more up-beat. The song starts off quite ‘Ambient’ with the low sub-bass mimicking the chord progression of the guitars. With every verse and chorus the song grows giving you a sense motivation.

Alex’s writing style brings you on a journey through the verses which was shown in his song ‘Control’ from ‘The Utopian Dream’ and he wanted to bring listeners on this same journey with ‘Escort’. Alex’s hope for this song was to guide listeners to a climactic ending which is for sure to give you a sense of satisfaction when the song comes to end.

‘Escort’ was named after the ambition of the song – to guide you through the verses and ‘Escor’t you to its climax.

‘Escort’ is released on September 19th on Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud.

IMRO and Law Society of Ireland to partner on new professorship in intellectual property law and copyright

IMRO Professor of Intellectual Property Law and Copyright will train future solicitors in the protection of music rights

The Law Society of Ireland has partnered with the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) to create a first-of-its-kind professorship in intellectual property law and copyright and contribute to the national debate on related issues, including music rights.

The position will be advertised in the autumn, with plans for the new IMRO Professor of Intellectual Property Law and Copyright to provide a public lecture each year.

Chair of IMRO, singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy said, “We are delighted to partner with the Law Society of Ireland on this important new initiative. IMRO is continually working on behalf of its membership to protect and promote strong copyright legislation in Ireland and beyond. This new alliance will further support our policy of working in collaboration with a wide range of industry groups and associations to the benefit not only our own members but the economy in general.”

Law’s vital role

President of the Law Society of Ireland Michael Quinlan said, “My hope for this partnership with IMRO is not only that new generations of solicitors will take on the copyright challenge in their careers, but that we will also provide a valuable voice in the copyright debate and be able to demonstrate the value of protecting intellectual property rights to the wider public.”

“For example, if music rights are not protected, musicians may not be paid fairly for their work and may be unable to earn a living wage. They may not be able to continue as musicians. What, then, would Ireland’s cultural landscape look like?”

“We know that intellectual property owners, including musicians, writers, illustrators and other artists, can and do face an uphill battle in terms of protecting their rights. The law plays a vital and ever-growing role in ensuring that Irish creative professionals can safeguard their rights and their livelihoods.”

Keep up to date with IMRO news and events
