IMRO and ASCAP present Award to Gavin Friday & Maurice Seezer

Gavin Friday and Maurice Seezer were joined on the panel by Darren Hendley and Todd Brabec.Last night in Dublin, IMRO and ASCAP presented an award to Gavin Friday and Maurice Seezer in recognition of the ongoing success of their film compositions in the USA in 2013.

The award was presented at a Music In Film & TV Seminar at IMRO HQ hosted by 2FM’s Paddy McKenna. Gavin and Maurice were joined on the panel by Darren Hendley and Todd Brabec.  The panel covered all aspects from composing fees, royalty payments to commissioning budgets and contract management. Jim Sheridan was also in attendance.

Kill City Defectors are back and set to release long awaited ‘Drone’ album

KCD_DroneCover_V02After many years of constant gigging, recording and slogging Kildare band, Kill City Defectors decided to embark on extended hiatus to recharge and re- imagine their creative path.

With the band submerged, individuals took time to contemplate their own creative visions. Although a lengthy process, it proved to be a worthwhile one. The bar was raised, the parameters widened and the challenge of a finding a new symbiosis had well and truly begun.

Realigned and revitalized, new ideas slowly began to emerge, new angles explored and eventually a new wave of kinetic energy led to a new sound.

Born through frustration, the resulting album ‘DRONE’ bathes in the dark light undertones of the bands self-exploration.

Released on 14/07/2014, ‘DRONE’ is available on all digital platforms from including iTunes.

The Flaws announce third album and video for single ‘Animals’

The Flaws have 10418175_10152514271294976_5234028136936838211_nreleased the first single from their forthcoming third album “Springtime for The Flaws”. ‘Animals’ will be their first single since the bands debut album “Achieving Vagueness” (2007) and their sophomore album “Constant Adventure” (2010). With the new album ready to launch it will be a welcome return back to the scene for this band.

Animals will be available to purchase July 25th from iTunes and Bandcamp.

Niall Toner releases video for ‘Million Dollar Bill’

Niall Toner has mdbreleased a video for ‘Million Dollar Bill’, taken from his Pinecastle album, Onwards and Upwards. The video tells the story of a man who inherits a box of Cheroots, a pair of Cowboy Boots, and a Million Dollar Bill, which he finds very difficult to change.

Niall will be releasing three videos during the Summer (July, August and September) the first of which is available to view below. The song was written by Niall and inspired by an old B/W movie starring Gregory Peck, called the Million Pound Note.

The video for ‘Way of a Wanderer’ will be launched in August, and September will see the release of the video for ‘Judge and Jury’.

Death in the Sickroom announce EP release and tour dates

Their debut EP, Brick To The Face, will be released on Friday 15th August and will be launched at the end of their upcoming July/August tour.

GREENSHINE hit the road again

greenshineFamily trio, GREENSHINE, continue to gather fans and friends alike as they perform up and down the country. Christy Moore said of their album:

“This is a gorgeous album ~ the sound of a family immersed in music, tight in harmony, in love with song.” Now in a new development, Greenshine are delighted that one of Mary’s songs “Meet Me In The Garden” from the same recording, has now been featured in “Waterways”, a new short film made by actress and broadcaster turned film maker, Carrie Crowley. The film is to debut at The Galway Film Fleadh.

“It’s so lovely when the songs go out into the world and take on a life of their own,” says Mary. “That’s the best feeling the the world for a songwriter.”

Songlines accepting applications for ‘Later with Jools’ style event

The first event Songlinescoming on Saturday 20th Sept 2014 and following by another in December 2014.

A number of singer-songwriters are invited to perform their own compositions in front of a listening audience at The Model, Sligo.

Songlines was established in Dec 2012 by Miles Graham with the help of Dervish front woman, Cathy Jordan who hosted the very first event. Its aim is to to provide a platform for the talented songwriters in the northwest of Ireland and beyond, to perform in a listening environment, showcasing their songwriting ability.

Format:

  • The format of the event is in a one room environment, consisting of 3-4 small stages in a circle, with a host introducing a number of singer-songwriters in rotation (a ‘Later with Jools’ type stage setup). The talent and standard has been to the highest level and in previous nights it has produced international bloggers sharing their experience online with Failte Ireland and social media sites.

Venue:

A venue that is quickly becoming the creative hub of the northwest and is the perfect match for this event, with its rich art history embedded in the walls and surroundings. (See above link for more)

The announcement of  a named singer/songwriter host and dates released in the coming weeks.

Pulse College is hosting a Live Online Q&A Series with renowned members of the scoring community for their world class ‘MA in Scoring for Film and Visual Media’ Program.

Join Pulse College online Thursday 10th July for the second in their ‘Masters in Scoring’ Live Q&A Series. In this event hear from Course Director and one of Ireland’s most renowned composers, Derek Gleeson, as he offers an in-depth look into the life of a composer and his role as creator of this unique ‘MA in Scoring’ program, which is taught by award winning composers from the Hollywood scoring community, such as Conrad Pope, Christopher Young and Garry Schyman.

This one year Scoring for Film and Visual Media Masters degree is designed for creative composers, musicians and innovators who want to be able to work as a creative artist in the global entertainment industry. Run in association with the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, this Masters course will be delivered in Pulse College and the world-famous Windmill Lane Recording Studios. U2, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga are among the many legends that have graced these rooms. More relevant to this course, many great film scores have been recorded here too, including The Mask, Mission Impossible and many others by great composers such as Elmer Bernstein.

Topic: Audiences and other ‘Expectators’: cultural context, receivers and audiences for new music, present and future

 

Part of the 32nd Irish Composition Summer School, this session features a panel of composers discussing the above topic in front of an audience of young composers and anyone who wishes to attend.

 

The panel will consist of composers Martin O’Leary, Ann Cleare, Peter Moran, Anna Murray and David Stalling and will be moderated by composer John McLachlan
