Following a hugely successful inaugural event last year in 2023 Macroom Music Festival returns in 2024 with more energy and a ‘stunning’ lineup. Taking place over the weekend of June 21/22/23 Macroom Music Festival in association with Cork County Council and Heineken  is pleased to announce The Stunning, Hermitage Green and The White Horse Guitar Club as its headline acts for 2024.

Taking place on Saturday, June 22, Macroom Music Festival recalls the very first open-air music festival in Ireland, The Macroom Mountain Dew Festival, which ran from 1976 until 1982 and brought Rory Gallagher to West Cork. With a new spring in its step and a brand new bypass opened in 2022 Macroom is ready to take in a breath of fresh air and invites visitors and music lovers back to the town. Taking advantage of the freedom from traffic the bypass has given the town Macroom Music Festival has become a welcome addition to the town’s event calendar. While The first Mountain Dew Festival was held in the castle grounds today Macroom Music Festival will proudly return to the gates of the Castle in the Square in Macroom town.

Early on during the planning stages in 2023 of Macroom Music Festival it was quickly established by festival organisers and the Macroom Business Association that there was a appetite for this type of community event in the area.  The one day festival featuring Mundy, The Riptide Movement and The Frank & Walters evolved into a full weekend programme that included a Music Trail and Family Day. This year’s event will continue in this vein with a Music Trail in Macroom town on Friday night. Meanwhile, a Family Day on Sunday will feature activities, games and face painting run by The Macroom Lions Club.

During the early nineties, the biggest band in the world was U2 but in Ireland it was The Stunning. In the seven years they were initially together, they toured relentlessly building up a following that would make them one of the most successful Irish bands ever. Their debut album, Paradise In The Picturehouse spent five weeks at number one and became one of the most loved Irish albums of all time. They’ve had numerous hit singles including ‘Brewing Up A Storm’, ‘Half Past Two’, ‘Romeo’s On Fire’, ‘Everything That Rises’, ‘Heads Are Gonna Roll’ and more recently ‘Brighten Up My Life’, that are still regularly heard on the airwaves today. They play a select number of show each year.

Hermitage Green has been touring sold-out shows right across the globe, entertaining fans throughout the Middle East, Australia, North America, United Kingdom and Ireland. Selling out iconic music venues and performing for thousands of people at some of the biggest festivals, this five-piece band has had the chance to share the stage with incredible artists such as Lewis Capaldi, Paloma Faith, Bastille, Two Door Cinema Club, Tom Odell, Gavin James, Sigrid, The Riptide Movement, The Trews and others.

The White Horse Guitar Club are an 11 piece band of brothers from other mothers who purvey the finest, emotion drenched folk and alt country, imbued with an Irish storytelling heart. The group have carried songs to full houses throughout Ireland, releasing their live album to widespread acclaim in 2023 and set to follow with a debut studio album in late 2024/ early 2025. ‘’There is an authenticity to the White Horse Guitar Club’s performance in which the musicians allow themselves to take all the risks while delivering a professional concert. This has the great effect of making the experience a very personal one for everyone in attendance. Good for the heart and soul-the music knows no borders’’ – Michael D. Higgins, Uachtarán na hEireann, President of Ireland.

Festival organiser Killian Lynch says: “In 2022 The people of Macroom got their town back and Macroom Music Festival was an ideal opportunity to showcase it to its full potential. Macroom is a market town in the centre of the Scenic Lee Valley and has a large community feel about. Last year was such a great success. We were so proud of the event and delighted to see so many faces back in the town. It is great to see a real buzz around Macroom town again.”
