4pm, Sunday May 19th in one of Dublin’s newest venues, Hyde on Lemon St (just off Grafton St)..
Ger Eaton whose distinctive keyboards have graced many Dublin and Irish bands of the last two decades, is the Irish singer and sonic auteur behind a remarkable and acclaimed set of songs released as singles over the past two years, both on his own imprint and by enterprising London label Dimple Discs who spotted a good thing and snapped him up. Beginning with I Thought I’d A Friend and continuing through the beautiful Hollow, The Time It Takes To Fall, Phoenix, Home Again and most recently Seasons Change, Ger’s work carries echoes of Scott Walker, Jimmy Webb, Brian Wilson and the high melodic heyday of the late 1960s, yet shot through with a contemporary slant and edge. Each new song and accompanying video has marked a exciting stage in Ger’s progress and has received recognition by Irish and UK DJs and tastemakers. After much preparation Ger has fashioned a band to do justice to the gorgeous complexity of his recordings, and after a debut at last year’s My My My July Festival in Birr, will premiere his full seven-piece ensemble in Dublin at the Alternative Sunday Social Club. Early booking is recommended.
Nick Haeffner is a songwriter and musician based in London. His debut album on the Bam Caruso label in 1987 was greeted with critical acclaim after which he disappeared from the music scene for over 30 years. His comeback album A New Life Awaits You (2019) was very well received with Alan Moore describing Nick as ‘one of the country’s most wonderful secret voices’. His current album, What Time Can Do was released last year on Dimple Discs records. Nick has been gigging on a regular basis with backup from Marcus Holdaway of The High Llamas on keyboards. His forthcoming reworking of Harry Nilsson’s songs from The Point features guest appearances from Eileen Gogan, Sean O’Hagan, Damian O’Neill, Ger Eaton, Keeley and many others.
