IMRO | The Business of Music Seminar Series | Placing Music in TV/Film

Music is now featured wall to wall in film, television and games. As this sector of the music industry continues to evolve and grow sync revenue has become a vital income stream and valuable promotional tool for music creators. With the expertise and knowledge of three of the most experienced professionals working in the sector this seminar will help unravel the mysteries of sync; how music is selected and how you can best submit your music for consideration for audiovisual projects.

Teri Nelson Carpenter
Teri Nelson Carpenter is a music industry veteran. Her executive experience includes a background in performing rights management and overseeing major studio and network television music departments. Her experience in creating, protecting and monetising music copyrights is well known and has earned her the highest level of respect worldwide. She is currently the President & CEO of Reel Muzik Werks, LLC. A Full Service Music Rights Management Company that specialises in Global Writer/Publisher Administration, Licensing & Clearance and Music Supervision for all Media. RMW services include management of Performance, Mechanical, Neighbouring and Secondary Rights. As the executive in charge of network television music at Fox Family Worldwide/Saban Entertainment, she was responsible for overseeing the Fox Family/Saban’s global music business. Prior to that she served as a Music Administration & Production Executive at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM Studios). Before that she was the Director of Music at Academy Award Winning Indie Company, Hemdale Film Corp. She began her career at Broadcast Music Inc. in Film/TV relations. She spent much of her time at BMI working directly with composers, publishers and content creators in providing assistance with their global performing rights concerns. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance & Composition from Cal State Long Beach where she graduated with honours. Her post graduate studies at UCLA were in International Business and currently she is a guest lecturer in the music department at UCLA. She is a recent two-term President of the California Copyright Conference and Finance Chair of the Board of Directors of the Copyright Alliance in Washington, D.C. Currently, she serves as a member of the Independent Publishers Advisory Counsel for the NMPA. She is also the Vice President of the Association of Independent Music Publishers and serves on the Executive Board of the International Independent Music Publishers Forum. She is a member of the Joint Project Lead at CISAC which governs all X-Industry music projects. She is also an active member of the Society Publisher Forum where she lends her experience in many groups including the A/V working groups along with serving on the Steering Committee & Working Group for CIS-Net a FastTrack / CISAC global music database project.

John McCallion 
John McCallion runs a Music Consultancy & Sync Agency based in Dublin working across Advertising, TV, Film and Partnerships.  He represents the Warner Music and W Songs catalogues in Ireland. John also works with a roster of established and breaking independent Irish artists, both in Ireland and internationally. Recent campaigns that he’s worked on include Aer Lingus, An Post, AIB, Bank of Ireland, Dairygold, Electric Ireland, Guinness, Littlewoods, SuperValu, Trócaire, and Vodafone. He has licensed music by Irish artists to the latest series of The Young Offenders (The Stunning) and Made in Chelsea (Paddy Hanna). Recent films he’s worked on include The Lonely Battle of Thomas Reid which picked up Best Irish Film at this year’s Audi Dublin International Film Festival. On Brand Partnerships, John worked with All Tvvins, Stephanie Rainey, Little Hours and Ye Vagabonds for the latest Bord Na Móna Hearth Sessions; with Bressie on SuperValu’s Let’s Get Ireland Cooking Ambassadors; The Academic & Deezer Live / Deezer Next; and with Gavin James, Rudimental and more on AIB`s Spark Something campaign. Previously he was Marketing Manager for Warner Music Ireland for 10 years where he was responsible for the Irish campaigns for everyone from Ed Sheeran to Led Zeppelin. He has also worked with MCD Productions, in pirate radio with Power FM, and has written for The Irish Examiner and DJ Mag.

Juliet Martin
Juliet Martin has worked as a music publisher for over 15 years and established Silverstream Music in 2008, providing a variety of services including publishing, composer representation and music supervision for film, TV and advertising. Silverstream represents numerous artists including Donal Lunny, Rocstrong, award winning composer Stephen Rennicks (Room, Frank), and John Walsh who has scored global campaigns for major brands including Jameson, Guinness and Vodafone. Juliet brings her extensive knowledge and background in the music industry to her role as a music supervisor. She currently provides music supervision services for some of Ireland’s biggest production companies and advertising agencies.  Projects include the award winning film ‘A Date for Mad Mary’ for Element Pictures, the 6 part TV Series for RTE ‘Can’t Cope Wont Cope’ and ‘Notorious’ – the feature documentary on the rise of Conor McGregor.  She has just completed the second series of ‘Can’t Cope Won’t Cope. Juliet is also a guest lecturer on the Masters (MA) in Scoring for Film & Visual Media for Pulse College, (Windmill Lane) in association with the DIT Conservatory of Music & Drama and in The Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown.
