“Sound of Belfast is an opportunity to once again put Northern Ireland on the map for music and BPI is delighted to be supporting Oh Yeah’s exciting programme of events.  We hope that creative businesses, music fans, and aspiring artists will come from all over the country to meet us and enjoy what the week has to offer.”

The monthly IMRO supported event is filmed by the newly launched IrishTV and showcases the best of songwriters not only in Ireland but around the world.

Gerry Creen is acknowledged as one of Belfast’s finest singer songwriters. Having lived all his life in the city Gerry emerged from it’s vibrant folk scene of the 1960s and 70s sharing stages and billings with some of the worlds finest songwriters including Nanci Griffith, Paul Brady, Ralph McTell and Tom Paxton. A great exponent in the art of finger picking with a voice and melodies to match. It has been recently re-released on CD along with his wonderful new CD ‘Hindsight’.

Mike Langley was recently proudly inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association’s Hall of Fame in 2012. A superb guitar player and evocative lyricist and the son of legendary country songwriter Jack Langley also a hall of fame inductee. A regular visitor to these shores and has written a lot of great songs that invoke the spirit of the West of Ireland.

Siobhan O’Brien has a strong connection with Matt Molloy’s as she has performed as a guest vocalist with ‘The Chieftains’ at Boston Symphony Hall. Johnny Rayge Set to Launch Debut Album “Vigil”

Johnny Rayge1Following on from the successful launch of his single “Not Without You” in March, Johnny Rayge will release his debut album “Vigil” in The Button Factory on Friday, June 13th. Doors open at 8pm and tickets are €10

After years pursuing rock-and-roll grooves with his former band ITO, Johnny decided to take a more meditative approach in recording this album. The result is a collection of contemplative songs as complex as they are catchy, incorporating intricate harmonies and epic choruses to create songs that are “as dramatic as they are musical” (Independent Music Review Ireland)

Johnny says “it’s just about being honest with myself, living everyday like it’s the last and loving every moment of it. It sounds cheesy but it’s not about arriving, it’s all about getting there; the relationships you build, the songs you sing; there’s a lot of love and loss, and we all go through it. This is just my way of dealing with it. I hope that this album, which is just honest, and these songs, will connect with some people and say to them what they say to me”

The album is being launched alongside a busy summer for Johnny. As well as having several festival dates already lined up (including Glastonbury, Electric Picnic and Body & Soul) Johnny has recently been selected to be in the final 33 of the Hot Press “The Big Break” competition.

Johnny has been a mainstay of the Dublin music scene since his previous band ITO first broke into the Irish music charts in 2006 with “Higher Than The Sun” but this album marks Johnny’s first major release in seven years. The first single from the album, “Not Without You”, has already received airplay on a number of radio stations, including 103.2 Dublin City FM and NEAR FM.

On Friday, June 13th, Johnny will play the entire album live backed by an array of Dublin’s finest musicians including Jebediah Funkfield, Chris O’Sullivan, Abel Benito, Noemie Chivas Baron and Sascha Herndl.

Support on the night will be provided by The Glasshouse Boys.

Ian O’Doherty showcases new sound with ‘Woven’

IOD

Following on from his debut EP released in 2013, Ian O’Doherty returns with “Woven” a single which introduces a new sound from the Kerryman.

This latest offering released on indie label Fat of the Land Records represents a very deliberate and pronounced change of direction for O’Doherty. Production duties were shared with O Emperor’s Brendan Fennessy who also plays drums on the track and it was recorded at the band’s Cork based “DIY” Big Skin Studios.

Getting a little bit outside the comfort zone suits O’Doherty as his layered vocals pour over old school synths and syncopated guitars, all pinned down by Fennessy’s frantic drum pattern.

‘Woven’ is due for online release Friday May 16th with limited physical copies available for order from info@nullianodoherty.com

The official video for the song was announced today and can be found underneath the tour dates below.

Ian will be performing a number of shows to celebrate the release of ‘Woven’. See below for dates:

Sunday May 18th – The Grand Social, Dublin

Monday May 19th – Whelan’s, Dublin

Tuesday May 20th – Doyle’s (Ruby Sessions), Dublin*
