DIRTY EPICS NEW SINGLE // LET’S BE ALONE – out 14.09.2012

Let’s Be Alone is the first chapter in a tale where two impetuous young lovers meet by the thrill of a stolen kiss and continue their desire for excitement and danger towards the bright lights of the big city.

The lively first single entitled ‘LET’S BE ALONE’ from DIRTY EPICS’ hotly anticipated brand new album ONE WAY MIRROR is due to hit the digital shelves Friday, 14th of September 2012…

Singer SJ Wai: “When I think of what we have created… our labour of love, I feel a sense of excitement and pride. ‘Let’s Be Alone’ is a song that bursts with energy and I think really captures the enthusiasm we put into this project. Every part of the making of this album has been a joy from the hideous hotel rooms to the bleary red eye flights.

With their new album produced by Declan Gaffney (U2) and Matt Paul (Amy Winehouse, Noistettes) in the bag, the indie pop rocking four piece from Dublin, with their enigmatic front woman SJ Wai, are raring to get back on the live gig trail. Having supported One Republic, Brandon Flowers, LadyHawke, The Hoosiers they’ve played all around Ireland, the UK, Germany, NY and LA, twice appearing at the world famous SXSW musical festival, Austin Texas. Their high energy music has featured on tv and film including a full track on E4s top teen TV drama series Skins.

Contemporary Music Centre | Happening – Live at Our Place

The Contemporary Music Centre will be alive with sounds as it opens its doors to the public for Culture Night and hosts Live at Our Place, giving visitors the chance to hear what’s innovative and what’s vibrant in new music from Ireland.

This year’s event takes place from 5pm-10pm on Friday 21st September and has been curated by CMC composer Karen Power. Taking her cue from John Cage in his centenary year, she has devised a five hour ‘happening’ which will take place across all floors of the centre’s Georgian home in Fishamble Street in the Historic Quarter of Dublin.

Visitors are invited to drop in and sample live performances, improvisation and audiovisual works that will give a flavour of the diversity and creativity of Irish music today, as well as the range of composers represented by the Centre and the music that makes up its archive.

The Cork-based Quiet Music Ensemble and newly-founded Kirkos Ensemble will act as ensembles-in-residence for the evening, performing music by an array of young and established Irish composers. In addition, there will be solos and live electronic sets by guest performers and composers. CMC will also present live works and video screenings of collaborative image and sound works drawn from a call for submissions for the Culture Night event.

Scoring For Film Program 2013

Following the success of previous collaborative film scoring workshops, the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, in association with Filmbase, The Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) and FÁS Screen Training Ireland will bring together the very best emerging Irish filmmakers and composers to work on an exciting collaborative project.

The focus of the project is a one day recording session in RTÉ studios in early 2013. This will involve the RTÉ Concert Orchestra performing and recording original scores for short film submissions received from student and professional Irish filmmakers.

We are now seeking applications from interested composers who would like to participate in this project. Because of the limited number of places available we have set down a number of qualifying criteria for those wishing to take part.

1. Previous experience in scoring to picture (short film/advertisements etc.) desirable.

 2. The ability to score for full orchestra is essential.

3. The ability to work to a tight deadline is also essential.

This initiative will provide emerging filmmakers and composers with a valuable opportunity to enhance their skills with hands-on experience in a vital aspect of film post-production. It is also a rare opportunity to have a score composed for full orchestra.

If you meet the above criteria and would like to participate in this program please send us an up-to-date CV and samples of your work, outlining your film and TV scoring experience to date. A total of 4 composers will be selected for inclusion in the project.

CLOSING DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 5th OCTOBER 2012

Delorentos Announce a Christmas Show in Vicar Street

Dublin 4-piece Delorentos have announced their biggest Irish headline show to date – a Christmas show in Vicar Street on Friday 21 December. Tickets are priced at €20 including booking fee and go on sale next Monday 10th September at 9am from www.ticketmaster.ie.

Having consistently thrilled audiences throughout 2012 the band were one of the highlights of last weekend’s Electric Picnic festival as well as having made serious waves and many friends at European Festivals this summer (including a main stage performance at Benecassim).

Delorentos’ recent, self-released (and third Top 10) album, Little Sparks, saw them set up one day pop-up shops in disused spaces to promote the record and play to all comers, on top of having produced a full-colour magazine to package a 4-track EP that preceded the album.

Suffice it to say the Little Sparks album has been hailed as their best music to date with a rake of 4 and 5 star reviews:
“The sound of a band who have found their musical and lyrical groove.” Irish Times
“One of the finest Irish releases of recent times!” entertainment.ie
“Uniformly fabulous!” state.ie

Kid Karate ‘Two Times’

‘Two Times’ is the first video/single to be taken from Kid Karate’s upcoming debut album, Night Terrors. The video, shot in Darndale, Dublin by Jamie and Keith (whose other credits include the Mmoths video for Heart) creates a perfect visual representation of the band’s thunderous sound.

Kid Karate are a two-piece band from Dublin. The pair’s music is gritty, raw and brutal; dwelling somewhere between the fuzzy blues of The Black Keys, the danceability of The Rapture and the aggression of Queens of the Stone Age.

The band’s musical aesthetic is based around Breen’s thunderous guitar-work and atypical howl, and Gannon’s primal drumming style. These elements combined enable the pair to create music that is catchy and intoxicating. Kid Karate make more noise than two people should.

The Shoos Set to Launch New Album, “Panic Slowly”

“Panic Slowly” is the new album by The Shoos. “Panic Slowly” has become a saying within the band about how to live day to day as a band who want to make a mark on the lives of those who listen whilst trying to retain their sanity.

The Shoos went in to record a live EP with no intention of recording an album……recording live was something they never did before and the result was simply that the band will never record any other way. “We kept recording and looking at each other in disbelief that it was working out so well so we kept the red light on until we had 10 tracks”.  A couple of tambourine overdubs and a D minor on the piano and that was that.

“There’s no point in describing the music only to say that the subject matter on the album is mostly taken from the band’s personal experiences and deals with the barriers we put up, the fact that we are turning into our Dad’s, the unrealistic expectations we have, the disappointments we feel,  and the incredible feeling of making music.”

Through Facebook The Shoos asked fans to contribute a picture of their lips. They got nearly 4000 lips and the best ones made it on to the cover.

The first single off the album “Say Something” (mixed by Joe Zook  – One Republic, Katy Perry etc) documents the story of the band’s investors and how the move to LA fell through. It was chosen by UTV to launch their “Select Irish” initiative across their Irish stations with play on prime time radio bringing in an influx of new fans.

The album Panic Slowly will be launched in Whelans on Fri the 7th of September.

“The Shoos blend all the key elements of arena and classic rock, fashioning it into a potent and dynamic vehicle for their hook laden tunes.”

Creating “The Hit”

The Hit is a music competition that gives fledgling songwriters the chance to have chart success with an established artist. From all of the song submissions received, Grammy Award winning music producer Steve Lillywhite (producer of bands such as U2, The Killers and the Rolling Stones) selects a shortlist of songs. Then, during the show, the chosen songwriters pitch their songs to two established stars. The stars are under pressure to select one song they can turn into a hit – but ultimately the audience will decide. At the end of the show two songs, one by each artist, will be released on iTunes.

The host of The Hit is Laura Whitmore from MTV Europe, and the two stars seeking their next hit song are Brian Mc Fadden and Royseven. Brian shot to fame as a member of Westlife, one of the most successful boybands of all time, and has since gone on to secure four number one singles as a solo artist while enjoying TV success in Australia. Up against Brian is award winning band Royseven who scooped the Meteor Choice Music Award for Best Song 2011.

The format was created by Vision Independent Productions in Dublin and is backed by Warner Brothers International and RTÉ. The pilot episode of The Hit will be broadcast on RTÉ 2 in Ireland on September 6th at 9:30pm.
