The Ghandis-‘Hunting’

::: LIVE ::: Launch gig for "Hunting" – Sat 26/11/11 at Odessa, Dublin, 8pm. Tickets 10 Euro

Following their packed set at Electric Picnic & touring with the accalimed Portland band Richmond Fontaine, the Gandhis return with a new single – "Hunting" – from the forthcoming album "After Autumn" which is pencilled in for release in early 2012 by acclaimed independent Irish music label 1969 Records, home of the Duckworth Lewis Method, Pugwash, Dave Couse, The Pale, Lir, Q, & Niall Colfer.
Reflective of a much more mature sound and possessing a newfound songwriting confidence since the release of their debut "You Are My Friend" back in 2009, the band have evolved up to a whole new level of musicianship while working extensively with the acclaimed producer & Krecording impresario Andy Knightley and legendary Dublin guitar bad-ass Conor Brady (The Blades, The Commitments, Jerry Fish, The Corrs, The Partisans, amongst many others).

After developing their own unique style of pop quirkiness, epitomized in their self-released debut single 'Zaza', The Gandhis were signed to 1969 Records. The fruit of this labour was to culminate in 2009's debut album "You Are My Friend" launched to a packed Whelans followed by a handful of high-profile RTÉ appearances (Arena, Saturday Night with Miriam O’Callaghan, The Cafe).

"Hunting" will be available as a free digital download through all usual channels and through the band's website.

Candice Gordon-Live

The Workman's Club
23.11.11
€5
8pm
Support from N.C Lawlor and Howlin' Dowlin

Candice Gordon plays songs from her upcoming debut album 'Before The Sunset Ends' with a full 7 piece band including top class horn section and special guests.

Candice Gordon was born in South Africa and moved to Ireland in 1989. She began playing music when she came to Ireland and immediately was drawn to writing. After school she lived in France and then London. She came back to Ireland to record her debut album 'Before the Sunset Ends' with Shane MacGowan. The album is influenced by folktales and is themed around the fallibility of human nature. Her first single 'I See a Demon' is inspired by the common illusionary phenomenon of visualising devilish faces in dark rooms, and the visitations of various “demons” during the time of recording the album. The video was self animated in a flat in Berlin.

The album will be officially available in the springtime of 2012.

VerseChorusVerse

VerseChorusVerse (aka Tony Wright) has announced the release of his debut EP, "VCV EP". Tony has created a subversive slice of folk pop wherein the melodies lodge themselves in your mind for some time, thus permitting the sometimes dark, sometimes bright, lyrical work to take up residence in your sub-conscience in the manner of a welcome house guest detailing the ups and downs of this ever spinning planet we know as home.

Having forged a path as a guitarist and founding member in an instrumental rock band (And So I Watch You From Afar), Tony felt the urge and need to explore different ways of expressing himself, instead of a wall of sound, drowned in effects and lightning quick timeshifts, he wanted to see whether he could express just as much intensity and emotion using only his voice, lyrics and an acoustic guitar in a live setting. Tony puts it another way: “I just wanted to get scared again, jumping off a cliff into the ocean is way more daring than jumping off a table. Unless that table happens to be on a cliff of course.”

These tracks are fleshed out with more instrumentation but remain wholly true to the afore mentioned manner in which they were conceived.  The lead track, "One Fine Day", is a celebratory pop protest number set in a hopeful but, thus far, fictional future, damning the aftermath of conflict. "Into the Autumn", is a song laced with hope coupled with realism. Whilst the the two closing tracks, "The Accused",and,"Thrown Me Away (Sold Us Astray)" put a personal touch to a shared feeling of disillusionment with the powers that be, whether they be Politicians, Bankers, lovers or absent friends.

VerseChorusVerse will be playing his debut Dublin Headline show in Whelans on the 10th November, followed by a UK tour with US Folk Punk legend Jonah Matranga, then returning for a Belfast gig on the 8th of December in the Black Box.

The Gorgeous Colours-‘Chopped Heart’

This week The Gorgeous Colours release "Chopped Heart", their second single of 2011 – their first, “It’s OK To Be Normal”, was described by one blogger as "quite possibly the best track of the year so far released by an Irish band".

The launch party will be this Friday night in The Grand Social (formerly Pravda) in Dublin. Now, we understand that there's some kind of football match taking place on the same evening (namely, the first leg of Ireland's Euro 2012 playoff against Estonia) –  however, we believe we've come up with an elegant solution to this. The match will be screened for free in The Grand Social (kick-off is at 7.45) and our gig will commence immediately after its (hopefully glorious) conclusion. The gig will be a paltry €7 in, and the band will take the stage at 10pm.

The single will be available as a free download from our Bandcamp page after the gig. Some more details can be found here, and the FB event page is here. It should be a great evening and we hope you can join us.

Palomino-Hot Pumps

Donegal electro pop-rockers Palomino finally deliver their much anticipated debut single "HOT PUMPS" to an ever growing fanbase, with their catchy 'disco stomper' also gaining considerable airplay and exposure courtesy
of Irish radio, both regional and national.

Featuring the vocal talents of Claire McDaid and songwriter Denis Kelly, "HOT PUMPS" recently featured on Today FM's Ian Dempsey Show with Palomino proclaimed as one of Ireland's Unsigned Artists to watch out for.
Palomino came into existence earlier this year when Claire and Denis decided to get the musical ball rolling once again, having worked together previously. Continuing to hone their unique pop/rock/dance style, the duo combine pure pop/rock elements mixed with sequencers and sampled grooves to create a massive wall of glorious sound.

"We love loads of different artists and styles, be it the Stone Roses/Madchester scene of the 90's, right through to the modern day such as PJ Harvey and Foo Fighters. It's great to have lots of influences yet still come up with our own sound. We're really excited about what's to come…!", explains Kelly.

With their debut release "HOT PUMPS", Palomino have already hit the ground running with a relentless, rhythmic, shot of electro-rock, drawing comparisons with the likes of Garbage, Goldfrapp, even Primal Scream, and already a floor-filler at the group's live shows. Also included on the single is Palomino's 'Candy Disco Mix' of the title track, plus an incredible ambient
mix by Shammen Delly.

"HOT PUMPS" is available on iTunes, and all good download stores, from November 2011

Other Voices Returns with Series 10 in December

December 2011 heralds the tenth anniversary of Other Voices, the seminal music TV series created by South Wind Blows in partnership with Intune Networks, Fáilte Ireland, IMRO and RTE. Other Voices 10 will take place in Dingle, Co. Kerry from Thursday December 1st to Sunday December 4th 2011 and while the unique and eclectic line-up of artists will remain unannounced ‘til nearer these dates, the tenth instalment of the Other Voices musical adventure promises to be both exhilarating and challenging, with a raft of Irish and international musicians set to make the annual Kerry pilgrimage.

On Monday December 5th, the Irish Music Rights Organisation will be providing a stage for Ireland’s best up and coming songwriters and performers, in the IMRO Other Room, a closed set recording which will feature in the Other Voices TV series, scheduled to be broadcast on RTE Two early in 2012. Speaking of the partnership, Victor Finn, CEO of IMRO said: “IMRO is delighted to once again play a part in bringing together this wonderfully eclectic showcase of music talent. The IMRO Other Room shines a light on some of our finest emerging Irish songwriters, providing them with a unique platform to reach out to new audiences. Roll on 10 more years”.

The show was born in Dingle in December 2002, presented by Glen Hansard, who would five years later step up to accept an Oscar for Best Original Song. That first show featured sets from Mundy, who was to become one of our biggest home grown stars and Damien Rice, who became a multi-million selling international artist. Over the years the presenters have changed and the line up has swelled with international talent but Dingle’s St. James’ Church, the central line, the glorious setting of Lilliputian proportions, has always remained.

What can be revealed at this stage is that Other Voices 10 will be hosted by a brand new face, that of internationally acclaimed Irish actor Aidan Gillen, whose love of film is equalled only by his passion for music. Of taking on hosting duties of Other Voices, Gillen said “I’m more than excited to be working on Other Voices this year. I only became an actor in the hope of one day getting on Desert Island Discs and playing records – this is way better. I’ve spent a large part of the last few years at the end of the Dingle peninsula and witnessed first-hand how well this festival fits this place. Roll on December!”.

Another new element to this year’s Other Voices recording events will be the ticketing system. Due to the confined seating in St. James’ Church, only a handful of tickets were ever made available to purchase and those with faster online connections and superior typing skills tended to win the toss of the coin every time! This time out, all tickets for the public will be made available through competitions, so all Other Voices fans will have a fair chance to win, be it on the Other Voices Facebook Page (OtherVoices), radio outlets, print media or online sites across Ireland. All competitions will be pre-announced on the Other Voices Facebook page.

What is absolutely certain is that the town of Dingle will be alive and kicking during the recordings of Other Voices 10. The community of Dingle are this year introducing a brand new festival to run alongside the Other Voices events from December 1st to 4th. Feile Na Soilse (Dingle Festival of Light) will be a four day celebration of the culture, music, food and community of Dingle, with open air Farmers Markets, Other Voices Music Trails, Christmas Carol Choral Competitions, Treasure Hunts, a Children’s Lantern Parade, Santa ‘Under the Sea’ at Oceanworld and a huge range of activities for grown-ups and kids alike. There will be plenty of hotels and guesthouses to rest weary heads, lashings of hot whiskies and open turf fires, the finest gourmet delights and Christmas shopping bargains galore. To celebrate the Other Voices recordings, there will be a raffle each night in one of Dingle’s bars for a pair of tickets to attend that nights recording, so even if music fans don’t win tickets in advance, they will be in with a shot to nab a pair while enjoying Feile Na Soilse! For more information on the festival log on to www.facebook.com/dinglefestivaloflight

Keep up to date on all Other Voices news, announcements, line-up additions and the chance to win precious tickets at www.facebook.com/OtherVoices. You can also follow the action on Twitter (OtherVoicesLive) and check out some fantastic music from Other Voices on the YouTube page (OtherVoicesLive)
