Zoé Basha, the Dublin based French-American musician and composer known for her unique blend of traditional and original music, has released the hauntingly beautiful track “Love is Teasin’”, a heart-wrenching traditional song that explores the fragile nature of love.

“It’s a song I’ve been singing for years at traditional singing sessions and around campfires,” says Zoé of the track. “It’s about the fear we all have about love – that it can only fade, that it’s fleeting. That fear is a theme that takes different forms across the album, and this song expresses that vulnerability.”

“Love is Teasin’” was recorded at Black Mountain Recording Studio in Dundalk, with the final vocals captured at half-past one in the morning – a fitting, raw moment for a song that serves as the opening track of Zoé’s forthcoming debut album ‘Gamble’. The album, which is set for release in April 2025, is a mix of traditional and original songs, blending blues, jazz, and Irish influences.

The album was produced by Zoé Basha, with Grammy Award-winning recording engineer based in Ireland, Ben Rawlins, handling mixing and mastering. Zoé’s debut project promises to be an intimate exploration of themes like identity, grief, and the complexities of human connection, all delivered with an exceptional voice that echoes the vulnerability and depth of her diverse influences. Zoé Basha is a musician, composer, and carpenter with French and American origins. Living between Ireland and the travelling life for over a decade, she has developed a distinctive style that blends the rich storytelling traditions of mountain songs, the solemn ornamentation of Irish traditional music, and the rhythmic fervor of American blues and ragtime.

Drawing inspiration from her studies in blues and jazz, Zoé’s music carries the boldness of someone exploring the psychology of intimacy and identity through song. Her evocative voice, coupled with her background in both traditional and contemporary genres, creates a sound that is both timeless and uncategorisable.

Following the release of her album with vocal harmony trio Rufous Nightjar earlier this year, Zoé is now preparing to release her solo debut album ‘Gamble’.

Gamble’, set for release in April 2025, is a collection that reflects her diverse musical influences. With a combination of guitar, fiddle, organ, upright bass, and a voice that has been compared to an old jazz record, the album will explore themes of love, grief, identity, and societal norms.
