Yana Releases ‘Calm Before the Storm’, Second Single from Forthcoming Debut Album

June 10, 2022

Czech Republic native Yana has an Irish heart. Influenced by the likes of Interference, Mic Christopher, Glen Hansard or Nick Cave, she built a name for herself by writing deep lyrics surrounded by atmospheric melodies. She released her debut EP Distant Shore in 2020 to rave reviews and a great radio support.

The pandemic gave her more time to be creative which resulted in the body of work forming her
forthcoming debut album Journey of the Soul.

The first single from the album, ‘Reach Out’, was released in February 2022 and Yana is now ready
to share the second single. ‘Calm Before the Storm’ has a strong Irish feel, with the violin played by
Claudia Heidegger and bodhrán played by Shane Ó Fearghail.

The song was written as a reaction to sudden passing of a fiddle player and singer Jitka Suranska, a
key figure at Folk Holidays festival in Namest nad Oslavou, Czech Republic, who died of cancer at 41.
Yana didn’t know her personally yet the news still came as a shock.

The song tends to encourage the listener to enjoy every moment of your life because the end might
come sooner than you think (“hold it close before it fades”).

‘Calm Before the Storm’ is out now.
