Thewlis share new single ‘The Manslaughter Ballad’

February 17, 2023

The Manslaughter Ballad is the fourth release by the Dublin-based duo, Thewlis, following 2021 single The Boy Behind Bowie and 2022 follow-ups County Level and One Day Summer. The Manslaughter Ballad is a musical departure for Danny McElhinney and Cormac Curtis, with the country-flavoured rock track influenced by Mazzy Star, Drive-By Truckers and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

As Thewlis explain: “The Manslaughter Ballad is a cautionary story of the life-changing consequences when the death or deaths are not intended – how many might still be alive after tempers reached a pitch if that punch had not been thrown? That kick undelivered or knife not produced?”

The Manslaughter Ballad was produced at Dublin’s Darklands Studio in January 2023 by Dan Doherty whose credits include Fontaines D.C., Damien Dempsey, Coolio and Meryl Streak.

Thewlis:

Danny McElhinney – Vocals, bass, guitar.

Cormac Curtis – Guitars, backing vocals and drum programming.

Dan Doherty – Additional drum programming.

The Manslaughter Ballad was mastered by Richard Dowling at Wav Mastering.
