Irish band The Savage Hearts are back with a new upbeat single ‘Radio Silence‘ off their highly anticipated EP – out now.
The Savage Hearts, which was formed by the drummer from The Strypes, Evan Walsh, have already celebrated three number one hits on the Irish download charts.
Notable shows have included support slots with acts such as The Boomtown Rats and The Undertones, festival slots at Electric Picnic and the Sea Sessions to most recently making their London debut at legendary venues Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues in Soho and the infamous Dublin Castle in Camden.
Speaking about the new single ‘Radio Silence’, Evan said: “The inspiration for ‘Radio Silence’ really began, I suppose, quite a good while back in that strange time during the pandemic years when lockdowns were starting to ease a bit and normal life was on the verge of returning but was still slightly out of reach.
“My previous band The Strypes had split up in the year leading up to the pandemic and everything was put on hold after an absolutely crazy seven or eight years of touring the world, releasing albums and living that whirlwind lifestyle and then, as we know, the world ground to a halt.
“I was doing a hell of a lot of demos, writing and co-writing stacks of what would become the songs for the Savage Hearts project but wasn’t exactly clear of when or how I was going to move forward with it – being trapped between two lives really.
“And then that morphed over time into a more cerebral notion of being trapped inside your head as much as we were all trapped by our own enforced change to everybody’s normalities and lifestyle at the time.
“I’m a great man for overthinking at the best of times, mind racing to the point where it can be like radio or TV static in your head if you don’t stop yourself and step back into living for the moment, the day and get into a more enlightened mind set, so that’s where the concept of ‘radio silence’ came from, basically.
“Symbolising the feeling when your mind could be going a mile a minute but you are struggling to break out and articulate yourself.
“But I’m not a fan of when lyrics are overly literal or linear so I tried to inject a bit of psychedelic obscurity into proceedings.
“I was listening to a lot of underground sixties garage/psych/proto-punk bands (The Deviants, Sonics, early Captain Beefheart etc) so there’s a fair bit of that energy in there as well a lot of 80s/90s cow-punk influences (bands like The Long Ryders, The Beat Farmers, The Blasters etc).
“Lyrically I like to make things a little bit more enigmatic and obscure because, while they might have a personal meaning to me, I like the idea that anybody listening or enjoying the track could take a phrase or a line and make something out of it for themselves.”

The Savage Hearts are an Irish garage/psych/rock ’n’ roll band formed by former drummer with The Strypes, Evan Walsh.
From 2012-2020 The Strypes’ considerable success included three Top 10 albums in the UK, Ireland and Japan.
They toured with major acts including Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Stone Roses, Liam Gallagher and Paul Weller and appearances at legendary festivals including Glastonbury, SXSW and Fuji Rock.
They also appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, Conan and Later…with Jools Holland.
Now Evan has joined forces with seasoned musical talents Darragh Muldoon and Eugenio Collinassi to form THE SAVAGE HEARTS.
They are working together to create a thrilling, no-holes-barred live sound fusing raw garage rock ’n’ roll, psychedelia and punk influences as well as paying homage and reverence to a strange, enigmatic rock ’n’ roll phantom of time known only as Eddie Cruizer…
In the short time since forming the band has already celebrated three No. 1 singles on the Irish Downloads Chart (released via Irish indie label Blowtorch Records) as well as gigging heavily around the UK and Ireland.
