The 4 of Us are one of the most acclaimed bands in Ireland, having been a steadfast part of Irish music history for over 30 years. Blending contemporary roots with rock, the award- winning band was formed by brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy from the border town of Newry in Northern Ireland.

The band shot to early fame towards the end of 1989 with their debut album, Songs for the Tempted, which featured the massive hits Mary and Drag My Bad Name Down. Their truly unique sound has garnered a large and loyal fan base and an enviable catalogue of timeless songs, including numerous Top 20 Irish charting albums and hit singles. Regulars on Irish radio playlists, their music has also been featured on American, UK, and Irish TV and film soundtracks.

Speaking about how their new single, St Gabriel’s Drive, was written Brendan says: “The song is set on a fictional estate in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. One night, a raid by security forces sparks a riot. A young boy, influenced by his older brothers, gets swept up in the chaos. While they manage to escape, he is captured and taken into custody. The song closes the following night, with his older brothers planning their next move, while his mother weeps, trapped in the relentless cycle of pain and violence.”

The 4 of Us have been livestreaming every Thursday evening to their fans for some time now and in in a clip entitled Songwriting in 112 Seconds Brendan explains how the song was crafted over time: “It’s a fun montage of several shows spanning several months, showcasing how our new single, St. Gabriels Drive, was a collective effort. And don’t worry, my attempts at slide guitar, which you can see in the video, didn’t quite make the cut for the final single. We all had a good laugh though.”:
