From 60s theremins and Soviet-era electronics to 80s synth pads and a 90s wall of fuzz, their sound is hard to pin down — something even the press has noted, calling them “Weird and Wonderful” (Hot Press) and “Unorthodox”(RTÉ).
They’ve been championed by Spotify editorial playlists like Fresh Finds UK & Ireland and Alternative Future, and were one of just 50 showcasing bands at this year’s Ireland Music Week. telekura will be supporting Nation of Language’s sold-out Irish tour this coming November.
Named after a Japanese telephone-dating service, telekura fuses acid-soaked-electronica with technicolor psych-pop drawn from every era.
Spirit Twin
On “Spirit Twin,” obsession gets dressed up in glossy synthwave shimmer and tongue-in-cheek psych-pop energy. Built around the chorus hook “I put my lover down to sleep,” this percussion heavy lofi gem leans on layers of cinematic vocal harmonies that blur the line between sweet and sinister. Like the imaginary theme to a true-crime drama, it’s lush, hypnotic, and just unsettling enough to appeal to fans of Magdalena Bay, Night Tapes and hyperpop’s campy side.
