STEWART AGNEW releases the glorious “Rain Down Diamonds” co-written with his good friend Duke Special
From the stunning album Into The Black Hills, which has already given us Ghost Town comes possibly this writer’s favourite on the record; the divine, Rain Down Diamonds. Stewart co-wrote, Rain Down Diamonds and a master of a track with his good pal, the absolute legend; Duke Special; who also shares the vocals. Like what is there not to love.
While the album has been on release since earlier this summer, we are thrilled this single is getting is radio edit airing this coming week; Friday November 22nd to be precise.
Rain Down Diamonds is a total ear-worm and you won’t have long to wait until you can hear it performed live either as Stewart and his band take to the stage at The Sugar Club this December 1st.

One of Ireland’s most refined singer songwriters, Stewart Agnew, emerged from his self-imposed musical exile clasping a clutch of glorious ear-worms to his chest in the shape of his fourth album, Into the Black Hills, which was released earlier this summer.
Stewart has played live with everyone from Ron Sexsmith (who guested on Songs from the Gasstation album) and Duke Special (who guests on this new album, Into the Black Hills; sharing writing credits and lead vocals with Stewart on [track 10] Rain Down Diamonds) to Mick Flannery, Beth Orton, Josh Ritter, Justin Townes Earle & Gemma Hayes.
Into the Black Hills album campaign commenced last spring with the issue of Ghost Town; the first single to be taken from this glorious 12-track long play. Ghost Town is a little gem, it was a perfect introduction to this album and is written by Dundalk-based Stewart and his long-time collaborator, Phil Wilkinson (Duke Special, Iain Archer, Foy Vance, Snow Patrol), who also produced and arranged the album.
Stewart is in the beautiful position of having a number of songs to choose from when considering tracks to release from his new album, Into The Black Hills. This writer has the formidable complaint of losing myself in this record, it has a draw which gets even stronger post first listen! We are now over the moon to be able to bring you Rain Down Diamonds; simply put it’s a beauty, it is worth a listen and even more so worth a play (or five!).
Stewart has expanded on the palate suggested by his previous albums (Tailor Made, Songs from The Gasstation & Hello Bright Spark) displaying a pop-nous and some say a song writing maturity previously only glimpsed at.
While an accomplished writer and musician himself, for his live shows Stewart is in the idyllic position of surrounding himself with friends who also happen to be some of the finest Irish musicians around! Cormac Curran, keys and arranger (John Grant, Villagers, Lisa Hannigan, Cathy Davey and SOAK just some samples), Graham Heaney, double and upright bass (Ham Sandwich, The Lost Brothers), and Tadhg Leahy, guitars and piano (RIAM).
