Dublin six-piece Silverbacks share new single ‘Giving Away An Inch Of’ third LP ‘Easy Being A Winner’, set for release October 18th via Central Tones / Cargo.

The follow-up to Selling Shovelsand Something I Know, the band’s latest effort bubbles along akin to a Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks track – Emma Hanlon’s vocals varying from spiky staccato to angelic harmony, with sardonic asides thrown in. Her delivery is accompanied by flickering guitar licks and a lock-step art-rock bass and drums groove.

Vocalist Kilian O’Kelly explains the themes behind the track: “This one is a love song and mostly about the balance of relationships. The main idea was that one of the lovers was going to be pleading for a little bit more compromise from their other half. I wanted to have lots of ties to nature too and I think Nick Cave’s version of “nature boy” played a part there. Emma and I now have a garden in Drogheda, and with it has come a newfound interest in plants! Red hot pokers are probably one of our favourites. I always like it when human emotions are conveyed by the natural world. The delivery of red hot pokers coming out of the chorus is inspired by Elvis’s “Poke-Salad-Annie” performance in Vegas.”

As with 2020 acclaimed debut album ‘Fad’ and its 2022 follow-up ‘Archive Material’, Silverbacks recorded ‘Easy Being a Winner’ with Daniel Fox (Gilla Band) in Sonic Studios in Stoneybatter, Dublin. Some seven years into their career, the sextet describe their upcoming LP as what they definitively sound like as O’Kelly explains: “Now that ‘Easy Being a Winner’ is coming out, I feel I can more confidently say who we are. We’re indie rock. And this album sounds even more like the indie rock I imagined for our band all those years ago.”

Having picked up a slew of champions across press and radio, Silverbacks’ transatlantic appeal has seen this bear out across the Irish, UK, and North American landscapes (Pitchfork, Stereogum, The FADER, PASTE, Brooklyn Vegan, PASTE; The Sunday Times, The Quietus, NME, DORK, DIY, So Young Magazine), with nods of approval throughout the BBC Radio 1 (Sian Eleri) and BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq) airwaves, and a UK and Ireland tour lined up to coincide with their album release this October.

Silverbacks’ ‘Giving Away An Inch Of’ is out now via Central Tones / Cargo and available on all digital platforms. Pre-order third LP Easy Being A Winner here.

Silverbacks are Daniel O’Kelly (Vocals/Guitar), Kilian O’Kelly (Guitar/Vocals), Emma Hanlon (Vocals/Bass), Paul Leamy (Bass), Peadar Kearney (Guitar) and Gary Wickham (Drums)
